West Bay party-goers may face arrest

| 08/01/2009

(CNS): Police said that they have been receiving a number of complaints from people regarding the congregation of late night party-goers at the weekend in West Bay in the Morgan’s Harbour area and warned that if people are using and selling illegal drugs at the events the police will make arrests.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) issued the warning following a number of complaints which have been made to them regarding late night parties taking place in Garvin Road, near Morgan’s Harbour.

“Recently, we have seen a large number of people gathering in this area at the weekend after the bars have closed,” said Area Commander Chief Inspector Angelique Howell. “We have had complaints about ganja use and loud music carrying on until the early hours of the morning.”

The area in question has clear signs stating that no loitering and no loud music is permitted. “We don’t want to spoil people’s fun,” commented Ms Howell. “But people must conduct themselves lawfully. If illegal drugs are being sold or consumed or if people are being a nuisance to the community, we will take action.”

The RCIPS encourages residents to contact the police if they have any concerns about what is happening in their community. People can contact their local police station, the main switchboard on 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling crime stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their informationlead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

Twyla asks: "Why has.nt someone thought about opening a place at 11.00 pm or 12.00 pm at nights and close at 8.00 am. next day?"

Simple, Twyla. The people who would wish to be out at those hours also wish to drink alcohol. Not allowed to sell alcohol at those hours. Bad for business.

    Here we go again

NOTHING AND NOWHERE FOR PEOPLE TO GO AFTER HOURS.

Why has.nt someone thought about opening a place at 11.00 pm or 12.00 pm at nights and close at 8.00 am. next day?  Every Club is opening at evenings and closing at 12 and 1.am, some people are just getting out, some just comming in from work, day off next day and want somewhere to go.

A nice private respectable place where persons can go and listen to music,  play pool, have a social drink some food and dance after hours.  You see there are some persons who work different shift hours and want an opportunity to relax after hours, there are also persons getting off work at 10 and 11 pm at nights and want somewhere to go and relax for a while.  If there was a private Night Club then those people would not have to congregate on street corners and open lots.  When people get bored they find all kind  of excuse to be here and there.

Now during those witching hours police will have something to do, they can concentrate on the late night fowl coop.  By eight o clock in the morning the sun has risen, Rooster start crowing and I am sure those who were drinking would have grown tired and sobered by the hot sun.

This is just a thought, been there, so I know what people are looking for.

Persons who go out and have a social drink, play pool, dominoes, or dance should be respected for what they want to do.   Just as well as persons who go to church or Sunday school, visit the turtle farm or Mastic Trail.  We all think different, and until we realize it is a time for change respect the other person.  Drugs and Guns, leave them alone, they can spoil your late night fun.

    Be Blessed

Police are quick to stop party goers in West Bay but what about the after hours session in GT area?  (Next to Annex and next Philips Electrical).
