Slow down in North Sound Estates

| 13/05/2009

(CNS): Motorists are reminded to slow down when driving through North Sound Estates which has been described by some as a ‘race track’. The call comes following complaints from residents who are concerned about the safety of those living in the area, particularly children. Officers from the Traffic Management Unit will be targeting the area and drivers are urged to heed the warning or face prosecution. Under the traffic law, where no speed limit sign can be seen the area is deemed to be 25 miles per hour and motorists must stay below that limit.

The RCIPS stresses that speed limits are in place for various reasons including the safety of all road users and pedestrians and that all drivers have a legal requirement to obey them.

Anyone with information about crime taking place in the Cayman Islands should
contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling
Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should
their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

Please note that I just spoke to the NRA today. They have already been made aware of the situation and have an application for speed bumps; which they have approved.

We are hopeful it will not be too long before these are put in. I also live in this area and it’s a real shame the amount of speeding that occurs down in here.

One suggestion I have is that while we are waiting on permanent speed bumps if we could not look into having temporary rubberized ones installed.

Many thanks to the private citizen who contacted the NRA about this in the first instance. It’s imperative that when we see something that needs to be done we take action to do so.

    Kind regards,

How about speed humps – its the only thing that will slow these guys down.  And how about some too on the old road to Bodden town too which is like a race track too especially in the morning and evening when people seem to have no patience to get to work and drive like Schumacher.

How about some speed bumps?  Mount Pleasant road could use a few too. That road is like a racetrack.

how about the NRA get’s off their butts and put up speed limit signs where there are none especially dart’s camana bay road

has the NRA run out of speed limit signs?

Our "Race Car Drivers" all need to slow down.  Another of the really bad places for this is on Watercourse Road and Stadium Drive/Birch Tree Hill Road in West Bay.  If the police spent more time trying to prevent drivers from racing on these two roads they might get some money in the coffers for the speeders, because personally, I know that very few of them are doing under 40 in the SD/BTH area.  These roads are rather narrow and they will not stop until someone is hurt or killed.
