Third man released in Next Level murder case

| 25/09/2009

(CNS): Police say they have now released the third man who was arrested in connection with the murder of Carlos Webster at the Next Level nightclub on Wednesday 9 September. According to reports on News 27, police have confirmed that they have had to let him go. Although there were said to be more than 150 people in the club at the time of the shooting and some twelve CCTV cameras installed, it is understood that after holding the man for 12 days, the legal limit before charging a suspect, the police still do not have enough evidence to lay a charge against the man, who has been released on police bail.

The Next Level nightclub is opening for the first time since the shooting this evening (Thursday 24 September) but the club’s owner has confirmed that it will remain closed on Wednesdays until further notice.

The Police asked for witnesses, they came forward and identified the killer. Now they are letting him go because there’s no evidence?!?!?!

What’s the purpose of helping them, if they are going to set the CRIMINALS free?

RCIPS – Get your ACT TOGETHER!!!

Next time when its the Fed Up Civilian killing the CRIMINAL, no questions should be asked!!

    Re: Bring the SAS

I totally agree!  We need serious measures to deal with this issues. There is a pervasive lack of confidence on the Island that anything will be done.   I am not critisizing the police per se, the situation is overwhelming. Which is even more reason to bring in trained specialists to put a stop to this before it escalates any further.

When 150 witnesses and numerous security cameras are cannot lead to adequate evidence to charge a perpetrator one is left to throw in the towel on the current system.  Clearly people are afraid of reprisals, and do not believe the police can protect them.

ALSO – Can the videos that exist in these incidents be released to the public under Cayman Islands laws? Even if the images are less than clear I would imagine that someone might be able to recognize the criminals by their body language, gaite, mannerisms etc.

    This is a real shame!!!!!!!

Another life lost, fatherless children and this is all the Law can tell  us so i guess the ones will do what i considering to do, apply for a Gun license as there is no real certainty that the Law makers can help us or love one who have fell victim to the circumstances, and where is the Newly Appointed Government in all this that’s happening, are they just sitting back collecting the FAT PAY CHEQUES and hoping that the DAWN FOOLS will just kill theirselves and that way they don’t need to provide them with a Lifetime of 3meals a day, free medical and don’t forget the educational priviledges is a crying shame….. People understand that the Law is there is no Law and as for Justice, he left with Kurt Tibbetts back in May or whenever the pointless event took place, because the only has changed is the Polical Party, but the high cost of living still exist….

I pray in God’s name that this Island be thought a lesson once again…. CUZ WE IS F%#KED……

Bring in the SAS or similar special forces, let a group of them stay for 6 months rotation, segregated from the community so as to avoid over fraternising & to assist an already overwhelmed police force weed out these dealers & thugs & clean up this cesspool!  Ordinary people are afraid , we dont all want to end up with bars on our windows and doors like in some other nearby countries.

So the next time you hear the call blaming all the crime on the RCIP it will be heard loudest from those people who were in the night club and prefer to look the other way.

What happened to the Christian ethic of being our brother’s keeper?

No wonder there has been so many gun crimes lately.  You can get away with anything here. There is no law!

  9. Uncle Cracker says:

Thats the same reason I dont go to those clubs, the same people who saw this happend probably have already gone back partying like nothing happend, they dont care because it did not happend to them which is sad,the dont want their fun to be inconvinienced at all!

    • anon says:

exactly – it is cowardice, everyone in that club who hasn’t come forward is a coward, nothing less. All you big tough gangster types are so fearful and pathetic in reality.

  10. Tommy says:

That’s unbelievable and sad…What about gun powder residue on the hands/arm/body of the suspect(s)/shooter?? Did they simply have the wrong person(s) in custody or is it purely a lack of eyewitness evidence?  I figured the cameras in the club may have been crap, but this just confirms that they may as well not have any cameras or guards in there…and to think the owners bragged about have 12-18 cameras, 10 security guards, but not one camera or guard was useful!!! I think it is blood on the hands of all those people who actually witnessed the murder and don’t go forward to assist to help close this case…shame on them…simply put they areassisting the killer(s) with this murder and any future murder(s) by the killer(s).

150 witnesses, several security guards, no disguises, 2 persons shot ON CAMERA and we cannot find whodunnit on a piece of land 25 miles long. I am disgusted. Arrest them all for aiding and abetting, because that is what they are doing by helping with the cover-up.

Initially I would get upset reading about this stuff, but now it’s just funny. A police dept that cannot solve this crime should get their own comedy show.

Which is more scary to the public? A person who would commit a murder and in a packed bar no less – or the fact that 150 of his peers are co-conspirators and the police (some of which are his peers as well) are impotent?

The thugs make a joke of the Police. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the thugs from the Police in their little thug knit caps. People complain about ex-pats? What you need is200 fully trained, experienced foreign cops with no ties to this island (or the thugs) to come and clean up.

"I bet within 14 days time, "Gunshots a fire hard again" It should come as no surprise to the police or anyone in Cayman.

Keep your eyes/ears open or read all about it on CNS !!!!"

I agree with you 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They saw what happened when they let out the second suspect, and again they announce it so the whole world can no. I no it might be some kind of law that they have to release the information and all, but at the same time they only stirring up more sh*t!!! 14 days you say?! I think its gonna be alot less than that, I dont no for sure, but I do no its goin to happen AGAIN & AGAIN & AGAIN….this crime will NEVER cease.

    May God be with us…..

Don’t you all see what’s going on??? There are not enough police officers who care about what goes on in Cayman.  What is happening here is nothing compared to what goes on in their countries and their mentality is, let them kill each other.  Apparently this murder was a follow up from another murder and unfortunately, you are right, it will not stop there! We need police who care more and are not scared of doing real work.  Stop clearing the bush, hide in the bush to catch the dealers like the real cops used to do!  Unfortunately those real cops are not good enough any longer so we need to demand more from the jokers we have as cops now.

How can so many ‘see nothing’? For the same reason why a child RAPIST can be sentenced for only 5 years.

    WE REALLY DON’T GIVE A CRAP !

All we do is pay ‘lip-service’ and criticize, because ‘we don’t want to get involved.

Well guess what, we are now reaping what we have sown !

I hear they are giving out free shots at 1:30am! Don’t miss out!

  16. A Realist says:

WOW. Thats all I can say.

Those clubgoers should be ashamed of themselves. I am CERTAIN many know who committed the crime. Yet they obviously won’t come forward.

Whether the victim was a saint or not, the silence is just sad.

  17. Anonymous says:

How sad that a person can be murdered in front of so many people and cameras and yet no one saw anything – even on the cameras.

The thugs must be laughing their heads off and we should brace ourselves for a lot more violence.
