Armed holdup at mini-mart
(CNS): A lone robber made off with an undisclosed sum of money after threatening a woman working at the Meringue Town Mini Mart in Boilers Road, George Town, last night with what appeared to be a handgun. About 11.10pm on Thursday, 3 December, a man entered the store, showed his gun to the 22-year-old mini-mart employee and demanded cash. The suspect was last seen running towards Walkers Road. He is described as being about 6 feet in height, heavy build with a dark complexion. He was wearing a black long-sleeved t-shirt, blue denim jeans and black sneakers.
He was also wearing dark coloured gloves, described as being similar to gardening gloves and was carrying what appears to be a handgun. No-one was injured as a result of the incident, and no shots were discharged. However, the woman was left shaken by the ordeal.
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call George Town CID on 949-4222 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).

Lets face it, until the laws are changed to allow people to give evidence without fear of being identified nothing will change.
Well, to take one of the silly points of view (regarding who is largely responsible for crime) to its obvious and ultimate climax:
There was no crime in the Cayman Islands until people came along; and crime greatly increased with the advent of Caymanians.
Most of the problems in the Cayman Islands could be solved by getting rid of the Caymanians.
Ok so maybe unemployment is the reason for all these recent crimes, but who do we have to blame? well i’m blaming Immigration Department, why are they granting all these work permits,??? lets take the Ritz Carlton for a perfect example…..what are the percentage of Caymanians working there? let me tell you Total Caymanians #153, Total married to Caymanian # 22 Total Permanent Residen # 25 and Total work permits # 584 ( Dont worry where i got that information from just know that its, what it is) so now tell me, why are they even here? what are they offering the Cayman society? they dont even give business to the local merchants, they bring people in to install new carpet, they bring people in to service there tennis courts. They bring people in for Administrative Assistance positions, they spend fortunes on work permit fees just because they would rather recruit people from overseas than look into our local community, no wonder nobody showed up at there recent Job fair, so with all this being said, we know what the problems are, but who are we to blame our own government! because there allowing our island to be taking over by people that think they can come into your own country and change the rules, and run you out of your own job because they have there best friend, sister cousin back home that needs a job! I see where cayman is heading in another 10 years and God help all of us! You know the recent crimes is anything, lets check in out in the years to come, and where will the work permit holders be when our island has gone down the dumps, they will take there asses back to there country with all the money they saved up over the years they were here SIMPLE! This is all a symptom of the social problems that exist in this country. As more people become unemployed and frustrations rise these types of behaviours will increase, that is the sad reality. There are those of us who saw this coming over 15 years ago and we raised our concerns over the years but successive political "leaders" were not listening. They still arent – there is a lot of hearing going on but not much listening.
What concerns did you raise over the past 15 years that successive political leaders ignored???
That schools were turning out graduates who couldn’t read or write?

You read the contributions to this thread and they are the same responses given to previous armed robberies another clean escape with no witnesses and the time honored rule of "crime does not pay" seems broken in the Cayman Islands.
What angers me as usual are all the people who know who have firearms and refuse to do a damn thing about it.
More people will be robbed and killed and people will blame the RCIP and those same people here will keep their criminal secrets and get what they deserve.

Didn’t the Police report that 4 persons were arrested for the armed-robbery at the Texaco Gas Station on Walkers Road. If so, that means these are not the same people and therefore we have a major job in trying to capture all the burgulars roaming Caymans streets!
Rumours have it that a gun was found on a door step of a house somewhere around the area of the gas station. This poor old lady that opened her door and saw that must have passed out. If this is true, what more do we have to put up with?

Dennie, I wish you were right but I can’t see this getting fixed. There’s a tipping point beyond which society can’t stop it’s own fall, and I fear Cayman has gone beyond that point. They population that is exposed to these criminals such as to be able to provide usefulinformation about them don’t want to; they prefer to live surrounded by crime. I would normally buy a gun for defence, but then again, as a professional why would I live such that I might find myself in a gunfight? Of course, as an expat I don’t expect the powers that be would allow me to have one. That left one choice, and for the critics and the cynics, I won’t let the airplane door hit me in the ass on Tuesday when I fly out. I have loved it here, and it is very sad to leave. To those that remain: don’t let the bad guys take over your country. Find the strength to fight back.

Sorry if I don’t have more sympathy for the victims. All business owners running a cash business need to wake up and join the modern world. Have a time lock drop safe, update your controls, and use CCTV so the public and police can have a chance of catching these goons.
