UK minister ties knot with gay partner

| 28/03/2010

Cayman Islands News, Grand Cayman Island news, gay marriage(CNS): The minister with responsibility for overseas territories, Chris Bryant, made history this weekend when he became the first homosexual MP to enter into a civil partnership in the Houses of Parliament. The UK minster and Labour MP for Rhondda, who is also a former Church of England clergyman, tied the knot with his partner, Jared Cranney, a company secretary, on Saturday. The couple’s ceremony took place in the Members’ Dining Room, overlooking the Thames after the Speaker John Bercow gave his permission for it to go ahead. In a statement released afterwards, the couple said they were "enormously grateful" to Mr Bercow and Leader of the Commons Harriet Harman for making the "really special day" possible.

“We never thought this day would come – and never thought we’d have to worry about cakes and flowers and rings," they said. “It’s amazing how much things have changed in such a short time.”

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 gave gay couples the right to obtain the same inheritance and legal rights as married couples.

Bryant was also the minister ultimately responsible for supervising the establishment of the Cayman Islands Constitution 2009 and its bill of rights, which has been drafted in such a way as to prevent any similar rights being afforded to gay couples in Cayman.

    Boo the gays are here!!!!

Cayman has always been so insecure about their christian foundation..please dont tell me the lil gays are gonna rock your boat.

Tell yah what lets invite all the gays here so that our strong christian foundation can fix them ….but i have a feeling they might get shot, judged robbed or pick up a drup habit…point is theses people pose no physical or real moral threat to anyone.

Church needs to back off and let Cayman evolve socially.

I wish for them a lifetime of love and comfort, and freedom from the "christian" (small "c" deliberate") judgements.  I lived in the Cayman Islands  for one year, and have never lived in a more judgemental, nasty community.  May God bless and protect all of those who live in Cayman that are foreigners, homosexuals or expatriates.  God made this earth for all to inhabit.   The most hypocritical population I have ever mingled amongst.

      • Anonymous says:

Well good for you and for Cayman that you no longer live here. Thankfully most people do not share your embittered opinion. You still seem to be interested in a terrible place that you lived for only one year though.

I think you mean "degenerate" socially. Change with the effluxion of time does not necessarily mean improvement.

His Will is unmoving, unchanging!  Each and every word in the Bible is truth, including all that is proclaimed in the Old Testament!  Women should not be wearing pants, just as men should not wear dresses!  You must not eat pork!

And I hope you my brother/sister are doing God’s Will 24/7!  God bless!

Happy April Fools’ Day, now go back to preparing for the rapture:

"…and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air."

      1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

Best for the rest of us ifyou are not driving when that happens.  Watch out for the airplanes as well.  I guess we should probably prohibit pilots from being Christians, and probably revoke your drivers licences as well, in the name of public safety.

I’m not sure how they got the caramel into the Caramilk bar, and I sure don’t know how or why Moses got all those dinosaur bones into the ark to sprinkle around the place after the flood.  And God said: “Seriously, bring those too.  No, it’ll be hilarious, trust me!  They’ll be talking about this one for centuries.”

Congrats to the happy couple !!

I wish the "christians" of this community will stop this bashing of a human beings choice as to the way they choose to live. Take responsibiltiy for yourselves and let others gay, straight, lesbian or whoever be. I wish that homosexuality was the only issues we had to deal with, because if that was the case what HAPPY place this would be.

Do us a favor, if you are a man, find yourself a woman, and if you are a woman find yourself a man. And I’m insulted by you classing our Caymanians Christian Morals as foolishness, it obvious you don’t read the Bible and you don’t even know what you are doing is wrong. Just take a look around, why do you think God made women for men, and men for women? And why do we have different sexual organs in the first place? For a man can’t carry babies, but the woman can, and the woman can’t make babies but the man can. You Gay’s have a different thinking, if God wanted to, he could have made the world with only men or only women but in his eyes it would not be appropriate or even serve any purpose for multiplication and the world population would never grow, and the women or men would just pass on and there would be no more and you would not even be in this world if weren’t for a man and a woman . And I don’t care what you do with your body sexually, but to come on here a bash us Caymanians for our Christian Morals and beliefs was not necessary. And you Gay’s talk about us cousin problems, when you all get up and making a whole lot of noise about getting the same rights to marry or have children like heterosexuals do, so we also have the rights to protect our beliefs and embrace our Christian Morals and appreciate that we are heterosexuals just a well, so when we make noise you all shouldn’t have anything to say.

We Caymanians already know that we have our own dose of Gay’s and we are not denying it, so it is no surprise to us and I have a Gay member in my family also, but I do not agree with his sexual choice, but again that’s his life and I don;t care what he do with his body sexually, I just do not agree with homosexuals, for in the eyes of God that is not the way he intended us to be, it is pleasing in his eyes to see us with our opposite sex that he created for us, be ye men or women.

      • Giggles N Thrills says:

"it is pleasing in his eyes to see us with our opposite sex that he created for us, be ye men or women."  Is God a voyeur then?  Why are we denied porn if what you say is true.

      • Anonymous says:

         God made homosexuals also.

Why do some people say God works in mysterious ways then assume they understand His intentions?

        • Anonymous says:

God’s will for us is revealed in his Word. His working in mysterious ways has nothing to do with the issue.

          • Anonymous says:

I think the poster poses a good question.  Each time I’ve heard someone say ‘God works in mysterious ways’ it has been in relation to the reason why God performed a specified action – the reason behind the action is a mystery.  It would seem to me that intentions and reasons are very much linked.  To understand the reason is to understand the intention.  Thus, if you do not understand the reason then you cannot understand the intention.  Pieces of a puzzle awaiting completion.

            • Anonymous says:

That is pure sophistry. What it is really saying is that you are unwilling to follow God’s commands unless you know his reasons for them. It is not of course correct that you cannot know what God’s intentions unless you know his reasons. He can be very clear on his will but his reasons may indeed be mysterious. Of course there is no mystery why he would forbid homosexuality.

      • EastSider says:

I think there are more serious issues right now than the fact that these two gay men chose to get married.  Once again, Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged.  Whether we consider it right or wrong it is up to God to judge them, not us.  You would do better to remember that the good book also says Thou shalt not kill and there is too much of that going on here now for the Christian Caymanians  to worry about than people’s sexual choices.  I am sure a lot of the Caymanians that call themselves Christians have family members involved in the gang activity that is happening right now so they should look to that before bashing people’s sexual orientation.

        • Anonymous says:

"Once again, Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged"

I doubt that there is a more repeated, less understood maxim in the whole bible. The command not to judge has to do with hypocritical judgement and assuming that you know what another person’s motives were for their actions. It most certainly does not mean that one should never distinguish between what is moral or immoral, right or wrong, good or bad. We all judge that rape, incest, murder etc. are bad, and not good. Obviously there is no need to preach that those things are undesirable, after all they are illegal as well as immoral.  The difficulty arises when we go beyond those values that practically everyone holds in common and touch on issues such as homosexuality which has a very vocal albeit minority support. It is then, and only then, that the biblical injunction on judging is appealed to. Of course the same people have no difficulty judging christians by equating disapproval of homosexuality with hatred, suggesting that pastors who hold homosexuality to be immoral are themselves ‘in the closet’ etc.. All of this apparently is fair game.

The truth is that all behaviour should be judged (in the sense of distinguishing right from wrong, rather than meting out punishment for it), but of course starting with our own.

          • Anonymous says:

There are many statements in the Bible which can be used to support a wide variety of very different agendas, purely based on the way it is interpreted.  This has not only resulted in heated debates but also branches of Christianity claiming different ‘truths’.  One statement ends up having multiple meanings according to who you talk to, each person claiming that their meaning is the only correct one.  Perception is marred by a wide variety of factors – personal feelings, what an individual has been taught, experiences, etc.

Perhaps, in order to attempt to understand God we need to first understand ourselves and each other – a task which very few have seemingly attempted and even fewer seemed to have accomplished.

We’ve all heard all the arguments both sides have to offer with regards to homosexuality.  Perhaps, it’s time we all start thinking outside of the boxes we are currently trapped in.  Step out of the box and listen to the other’s side, feelings and beliefs aside – doesn’t mean you’ll end up agreeing but perhaps you might see the world from a different angle.

            • Anonymous says:

I am not sure how your post relates to my point but it is self-evident that "do not judge" cannot mean that one must never distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad, moral and immoral, i.e. that one should should amorality. Making such distinctions is  what the book is all about.

      • Anonymous says:

Wow it is now 14 thumbs up and 26 thumbs down, anyway the book is not Exodus It is Leviticus on homosexuality, in Leviticus 20:13 it says, if a man also lie with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have commited an abomination; they should surely be put to death, their blood shall be upon them. It is more to the chapter on homosexuality, if you going the read Leviticus, it best to start from chapter 20:12-14.

        • just trying to help says:

          Maybe start at Leviticus 20:9:

9For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

10And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

So all you good Caymanians best go gather up the pinheads that are disrespecting mommy and daddy and CHOP OFF THEIR HEADS!

You good Caymanians also need to go gather up the pinheads that are boinking their neighbour’s wife and CHOP OFF THEIR HEADS TOO!

          Good Christians that you are…

Leviticus 20:15 has something to add:

15And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.

… nothing more to add to that one, except don’t eat the meat.

Exactly, what *is* this world coming to?  When people have the audacity to choose their long term partners and  get married, showing commitment and love to the world.  I don’t know.  Where will it end?  We can’t have people being happy, it’s not in the Constitution.

We should build a jail on the moon and put them all on it.  Let’s have a whip round, see if any other countries are up for pooling their resources and making this a reality.  And hold a prayer meeting.  That’show you get things done around here.

Our closeted preachers and politicians here in Cayman must be so jealous that men like this can live happy open lives, being who they are, without having to lie, pretend and sneak around.
