On Saturday, 27 March, a 22-year-old man was arrested in relation to the murder of Damion Ming and, police said they also arrested another man who is 23 in relation to the murder of Alrick Peddie. He said this is being manned by hand-picked officers that the community can have the utmost confidence in. He vowed that the line (949-7777) was completely secure.
Police enquiries into both murders are actively ongoing and anyone who has any information is asked to contact West Bay police station on 949-3999, or the new RCIPS confidential tip line 949-7777.

let’s keep in perspective that "what most people know" is only "what they have heard" along "Dump Road" and this hear say is not admissable in court and will not help with convictions.

  2. Come on Man! says:

Very good progress & well done RCIP.

Anyone with information that will assist the prosecution, you must come forward & do you civic duty.  Let’s get back our peaceful Cayman once again.

The word "murder" seems to have lost its gravity. Let me clarify. An event happens (usually suddenly) by which you are no longer operating on earth as we know it.

This certainly sounds undesirable, because whatever I thought held true here no longer applies.

    Wake up!

    • Away Again says:

People of Cayman, WAKE UP and get rid of this man as Premier NOW!!!!

Here we are in a major crime period and the Premier decides to travel to Washington for 4 days holiday.

I say holiday because it far more important right now to solve the DRASTIC crime issues than to sign a Tax Agreement with Australia, especially as right now we are on the white list with 14 Tax Agreements already signed and waiting a few months to sign another one will not cause us to be put back on the grey or black list, but you know our Premier will find any excuse not to be in the Wild West as he is afraid it will be he who may end up taking a ride on the "West Bay Shuttle".

If he does not spend more time in Cayman solving our problems, it wont matter how many Tax Agreements he signs as no Business, rich persons or tourists will want to come here even if we are on the white list.

So wake up Cayman or we wont have a future and our children especially wont have a future in their own country!

Uhm you do realise that their will be another G-20 meeting soon.  Hence, added measures to deter non-tax jurisdictions.  Therefore Cayman needs to remain admanent about promoting financial transparency.  Sometimes people really need to think before they speak or blog.

     lol what no negative comments??

  5. West Bay Shuttle says:

Well done RCIPS, and I was at the meeting on Saturday night and it was a blessing not to hear the "West Bay Shuttle" in service, excuse me, I meant I did not hear the Ambulance in service.

Ok its good to know that the police have made arrest inconnection to these murders but my question is how long will they hold these young men before  letting them ago and these two murders goes on the unsolved list.

For God’s sake people speak up, or these things will continue to plague Cayman.

  9. what a mess says:

Can we have the NAMES of these suspects?

The general public deserves some small piece of mind with the state of crime on this island today.

Again, keep up the good work RCIPS.  From someone who was critical, but assured you would support you when I saw some results… and this, plus secured convictions, are the sort of results we need.

Thank you for all your hard work.  We do appreciate it.

Although it is encouraging to read about arrests, they are somewhat meaningless without formal charges.  Come on people – report what you know!  You can also submit anonymous tips online.

    Let see.

4 Murdered, 5 arrested now (just from this last shooting) +1 for the murder of a child.

I would say we are 66% done with solving the crime if Mr. Baines is right.  It is my understanding the UK is sending in some special forces.

Why is it that if we know who the bad guys are they can’t be prosecuted under conspiracy, gang laws, or somethign like that?

So far, so good.  Let’s hope they can keep them in custody for a long, long time!!

Hopefully these thugs can be charged using the as yet never utilised anti-gang legislation. As for the lengths of sentences, mindful of the sentiment of an old  seaman : "Lock ’emup, make a key out of a bone, and throw it to a dog". Time to get serious about jail, folks. No more pussyfooting around with foolishness like physical contact with visitors and the like, and make every day in jail a hard-work day, which if it isn’t completed, doesn’t count against your sentence. A stay at Northward should be an unpleasant experience.
