Calls mount for Golding’s head over ‘Dudus’
(BBC Caribbean): Pressure has been mounting on the Jamaican Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, to resign after his surprised admission on Tuesday that he authorised attempts by his Labour party to lobby the US government to drop its extradition request for a strongman in his constituency. The United States has been seeking to extradite Christopher "Dudus" Coke since August last year. Washington says he is wanted on drug trafficking and gun running charges.The Bruce Golding administration has been challenging the extradition on the grounds that the evidence against Mr Coke was unlawfully obtained.

Who cares about Visa getting revoked…just let them do business elsewhere…If my US visa got revoked it wouldn’t bother me as I am not gaga over America and no one should be our world is to big for that… Anyone who has amercian dreams has just that..sorry for a lot of people in this country who do but that is just a system perpetuated by a wonder of the world they posses. This is wonder is better know as Hollywood a place where dreams are sold to fools by the millions. Sure got a lot of fools to fool but you will not fool me. Yes and we sooo fool we went and adopted this Jamaican styled politics directly from the mainly JLP exiles who fled here in the 1970’s and 1980’s and our own Jamaican educated Caymanian idiots who instead of learning from the mistakes have tried to re-create a carbon copy here.

Bruce must go…but then what? Who in the PNP has any moral authority to speak for Jamaica. It was them that were at the helm when the downward sipiral in which such a beautiful country find it self. Remember Omar Davis’ confessions of using governemnt money to fund politicaly campaigns; the false budgets over the many years; the trifugeria (sp) affair…Jamaicans still dont know the truth; the Cuban Light Bulb scandal? So what difference does it make whether Bruce go or stay… you will be swapping black dog fi monkey. All this call for Bruce’s resignation is like the old proverb; "theif don lik fi seh thief wid long bag", nothing more none of then have any genuine interest in Jamaica. Take a look at teh Kingston community where the opposition leader has been MP for 20+ years and tell me where is the care.

If one nation decides to start a nuclear energy plant for energy purposes or prevent US/UK investors from making their dollars in their own country, through their connections, they make trouble for the nation.
They either sanction the country, allow the media to degrade the reputation of the country, or move into the country like it did to Iraq for oil. They are profiteers in high places and will do whatever they can to get what they want. All I know is that whenever any nation is in trouble or suffers any disasters the first place they call for help is America! When America helps they contribute twice what all the other countries contribute combined yet certain stupid people will complain that they did not help enough! It is unbelievable!
I am not an American, I’m a Caymanian, but what I have to say about that type of hypocricy is that "you cannot have your cake & eat it too." You cannot on one hand say that America believes that they are the "police" of the world & on the other hand expect their help when disaster hits!
I can say without fear or favor, if America stopped helping other nations, & if America stopped being the "police" for other nations, not only would those same hypocritical nations vigorously complain & cry, but without doubt the world would be a far less safe place.
Please let the hypocricy end because there is good & bad in all nations, including Cayman (especially Cayman), & America is no different. In fact they help more nations & more people than any other nation, I say they help too much. If it was me I’d tell some of those hypocrites where to go.

I am Caymanian and would not normally comment on Jamaican political issues. However in this case, seeing as so many of our politicians seem to be using Mr. Golding as a role model for all things political, his departure in the present circumstances might be a good thing.
We already have politicians refusing to get tough with our own criminals and politicians who think that they can ignore the law whenever they choose. Perhaps if our not too bright politicians saw that their are penalties for backing the crirninals over the people then they might change their ways. That might be too optimistic given the way our politicians behave but we can always hope.
There are also penalities for US politicians backing their own criminals. As a self-declared Caymanian (glad you are) – what is your point!
There is a reason why they dont get tough in Jamaica – If Golding does not side with this particular criminal it is a known fact in Jamaica that he and his family will get bullets up their a….ses.
Bruce does have a valid argument though – WHO ARE THE UNITED STATES TO TELL A SOVERIEGN NATION THAT THE MUST HAND OVER A MAN BECAUSE OF CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST HIM???

Nah Nah Nah! The Jamaican were the ones who signed legal documented contract., to extradite criminal for offence being committed, as long as they have enough evidence, (which they do have). USA is not pushing anything down nobody throat. What’s good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

I remember a treaty between the US and some Islamic country about two year ago, and some youngster decided to break the law there and get away with murder. The penality for the law was certain number of lashes. And I recall how the US made such a stink over the incident like no one should do such a thing to a US citizen. They pressured the government there so much that handed over the youngster. They feel they can go anywhere and do what they want because they’re american

Extradition allows one sovereign nation to ask another sovereign nation to hand over a wanted criminal. Some countries do not have extradition treaties with other countries, or have limited them in some ways (e.g. European countries will not hand over an indicted criminal if he or she will face the death penalty in the US), but for the most part extradition benefits all parties. People can’t commit crimes and then run and hide somewhere else to get away with it. There is due process, of course, but if there is an indictment you better believe the person should be handed over to face the charges.
And of course you hear nations pressuring others for suspects all the time, ever heard of Roman Polanski? Manuel Noriega? Thaksin Shinawatra? Gary McKinnon? Augusto Pinochet? Dragan Vasiljkovic? Abdullah Ocalan?
Well then who are Jamaica to tell the United States to grant Visas to the Jamaican people.
If the Jamaican Government dont want to hand over a wanted felon in the States to face the charges, then the United States have every right not to grant Visas to who they wish, and Jamaica is no exception to the Laws of the United States.
As a Caymanian, if my Visa was revoked because the Cayman Government would not hand over a wanted Cayman felon, I would be very upset and would not try and claim that the US believe they are "police of the world" but would make sure that our criminal was extradited, but that is just me as a Caymanian who does not believe the world owes us everything.

As a matter of fact they even stated the statitics on the issuance of visas to Jamaica; and this year’s figure had surpass last year – before this thing came about. Those hoodlums that had their visas revoked was because of the lyrical contents – the voilence they promote, their homophobic lyrics and their support for gun crimes, adn their blatant disrespect for other persons country and belief (I saw the youtube video). Trust me, anyone you heard of getting their visas revoke in Jamaica – they are mix up; dont matter the jacket and tie or the popularity.

I don’t know where you got this from but I saw in the news that the US government said that they would be screening them tighter and people that had a lot of money and couldn’t prove where their money was coming from would not be allowed into United States.

I completly agree with you, why should the US give away their visa to jamaicans? If you are not guilty of the crime then show yourself, get you a damn good lawyer. But because dudus is guilty he can’t show himself, if him fly high or low the US Government is going to find him. Dead or alive. All I have to say is that the good is suffering for the bad.

All of those who are calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation are in a similar position to him. The difference is that the Prime Minister’s dirty laundry is being aired in public while the others are just lying in wait. Peter Phillips and Omar Davies attended the funeral services of known gunmen and so-called dons. They did not resign when this happened. The former Prime Minister PJ Patterson resigned after it was revealed how he brokered a deal which was illegal to award Shell Company waivers. He resigned but was then re-elected. Jamaica is a wonderful beautiful country. The pearl of the Caribbean but right now our leaders have failed this country and it is time for all of them to go. We have had enough of special interest politics. Time for those who really have Jamaica at heart to stand up and let their collective voices be heard.
Because of The Prime Minister trying to protect one man, who is a renowned gang leader, to the detrement of all Jamaicans as it is now very hard for innocent Jamaicans and business people to get Visas to the US, even to the 7 year old Athlete whose Visa request was denied.
Good standing Jamaicans and Business people, who have had Visas for years, are now having their Visas revoked, which is very unfair.
But as we all know, Dudus was a financial backer of The Prime Minister during the last elections.
"Birds of a feather, flock together" and its interesting to see who the friends of The Prime Minister are, but its obvious that he is "jammed" between a "rock and a hard place", so the only Honorable thing to do is resign now, to help his Jamaican people, as we know he will not hand over Dudus.
I am sure that if another country wanted someone from the United States for crimes, the U.S. government would protect their citizen whether that citizen is corrupt or not
Wake up Star and check how many criminals have been extradited from the US to their respective Countries to face criminal procedures, you obviously will be surprised!
I think Bruce is scare to mess with Dudus. He is a very powerful man in Jamaica and has connections. He is also for the same party as Bruce.

Corruption is so rampant in Jamaica these day’s, nothing really surprises me anymore.
Based on the way "how things a run" here in the Cayman Islands with our sagging economy, I do expect to see a remarkable increase in corruption here as well, on all levels.
