US holds England to 1-1 draw after Green gaff

| 12/06/2010

(CNS): While England got off to a flying start with Steve Gerrard’s early goal in the squad’s opening match in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa on Saturday, things went awry following a catastrophic failed saved by goalie Robert Green on a so-so kick by Clint Dempsey. The 1-1 result is a bonus for the USA and a clear disappointment for the English squad, but nevertheless a point on the scoreboard.   England captain Gerrard gave the team a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, neatly flicking the ball past US keeper Tim Howard, but Green’s almost comical error at the other end evened things up five minutes from half time.

Next world cup game is Algeria v Slovenia tomorrow morning

when it comes to world cup soccer, england, along with portugal, the netherlands, and spain (save their 2008 Euro Cup championship) are perennial underachievers.  even the french, are getting back to their underachieving good old ways.  the teams that one can always count on to do well in a world cup tournament, no matter who they bring to play, are brazil, germany, and italy – they are in a class of their own.  the english, well they’re good, but a class below.

p.s.  england always finds a way to lose (beckham; rooney; robert green)  – general rule, do not bet on them.

I use my powers of deduction to assess that this person has no clue about football (probably even calls it soccer).  England were very poor.  The US were worse.  On this form neither team has much prospect of getting far (and certainly not the last four).  The difference is that England might get better, for the US this was as good as it gets.

Different year – same result! Poor team – poor country! Could not care less! Go USA! Like some one said – This "spill" we can live with not the oil spill. May this type of spill continue for a month until July 11?
