Pastor and MLA ‘brain storm’ at Monaco yacht show

| 11/10/2010

(CNS): West Bay MLA Cline Glidden and Pastor William Peguero, in his capacity as chair of the National Investment Council (NIC) were reportedly “brain storming” in Monaco last month at the 20th annual luxury yacht show held in Port Hercules, according to a press release. Joining staff from the CI Shipping Registry at one of the most prestigious boat shows in the world, they "spent much of their time analyzing the new challenges" that the yacht market faces. The show provided the ideal platform for the delegates to “meet with industry stakeholders, increase understanding of global issues that are affecting yacht owners and develop relationships that will drive business to Cayman’s shipping sector,” the release said.

At the Super Yacht Owners Summit, owners and industry representatives reportedly opened up to each other and discussed ways to bring about change to drive the industry. “The Summit included speakers from the world of private banking, maritime law, ship brokerage, private jets and luxury yacht building,” the release from Fresh Image PR stated.

According to Peguero, tactical solutions were presented that will be evaluated and tailored to enhance Cayman’s shipping market. "As a leading ship and yacht registry jurisdiction it was important for Cayman to have a presence at the Monaco Boat Show,” said Peguero. “Cayman’s yachting industry is dependent on the strength of relationships and the level of cooperation and understanding that exists between owners and the industry.”

Peguero added that Cayman’s participation at this year’s show underscores the country’s service offerings to the VIP, business and private-yacht markets and that the insights gained from the trip, particularly with regards to constraints and opportunities, would allow for growth opportunities for Cayman.

The trip delegates are expected to submit a draft report to the premier, the release said, and the NIC plans to partner and work closely with the CI Shipping Registry to further develop and strengthen the sector.

What the heck does Peguero know that the people of the Shipping Registry don’t already know or haven’t done.  This is outrageous!  This really shows that people use the pulpit to further their own interests.  Classic example.  Wake up people.  Mr. Premier, if you wanted someone for this position, at least select someone based on their intelect and credentials, not based on how many people a man’s church has.  I am totally disappointed at the UDP.  I understand that Peguero is on to Dubai now.  I will do an FOI request to find out all of his expenses and what our return has been.  I’ll bet it is NONE!

Just another gowerment scam people thats all, where talk is cheap, budgets &staff are enormous and  profits & benefits to Cayman are minimal you know how it goes, do the math Cayman. Its our problem though we keep installing the same political cronies and their minions in the same positions. Yes and we keep wondering why things are not getting better?

I would very much like to know what William Peguero has to offer as far as a high level advisor for the Cayman Islands.  He was a flight attendant and owned a business that he had to close for lack of business.  XXXXXX  I would like to know if he is using his consulting firm, Eaglemount (see link below) to make a salary or benefit from this new appointment for the investmen council now that he has taken a sabbatical from the church?  I also want to know how it is that CIMA allows his son to advertise himself as a consultant for another firm as per that same website.  I was not aware that you could hold a job with CIMA as an analyst and also advertise yourself for a second job as a financial advisor of sorts.

    • What the ******* ,  How can Peguero leave the pulpit that  he have supposedly did so well in bringing lost souls to the altar? to use the peoples money to spread more bullshit with the UDP. I for one are sick and tired of this type of baloney. We are in such a bad shape & yet the premeire will allow these people to travel at our expense wine & dine with the big wigs, when we have people here that are suffering, shame on you MAC, for not allowing this to take place.

You all need to stop this rape of the public coffers, better yet , you should all be made to pay us back with interest.

Cayman, start now to replace these GOONS that are representing us now, the PPM, UDP all loosers, there is a lot of good Caymanians that can run this country and do a better job that what we have now. Yes make it a capitol offence to offer any type of favor or pay for your vote, be smarterthan that, cant you see thats whats troubled this country for the last 30 years. No more washers/dryers, refrigerators, lumber, stoves, cah, why I know of a whole family that took trips to miami from a canidates donation to them.  We the people can stop this by reporting it when we see it and hold the police, canidates responsible for not acting on it. I am sick and tired of this and really feel like throwing up, when I think of the Pastors vain acts.

Wake up Cayman take our Islands  back

Maybe he is no longer with CIMA. Looks like he only stayed with Rotaract long enough to list it on his resume, but no quite long enough to get the spelling correct. lol.

As a member of the community in the Cayman Islands he is actively involved in civic organizations such as Roteract Blue and Big Brothers Big Sisters – Cayman. Also, William is an active athlete in local leagues such as CIFFA and CIBA representing the Cayman Islands as a National team player for both organizations.

How shortsighted we sometimes are. Regarding Pastor Peguero, are we forgetting that he built a retail business from scratch to become an enormous success. He chose to close his business and devote his attention to developing a ministry. He remains a successful commercial property owner and landlord. Surely he possesses more-than-reasonable  business acumen, therefore why not include him as an adviser.

In these challenging financial times any honest option should be utilized.

BTW, I’m not the pastor nor a family member, simply a member of the community who tries to look beyond my nose.

    • Anonymous says:

He closed his business due to the downward turn of the economy and people shopping more in the states, online, etc.  That was stated in the paper when Sounds and Things closed down.  So…hence when you make a statement make sure you have all the facts!!!  What the hell does a minister have to go to Monaco to see about the registry of ships????? Come on…

    • Anonymous says:

This is something that always puzzles me.  I am asking out of puzzlement, really.  Doesn’t being a "successful commercial property owner and landlord" make it difficult to follow the precepts of Jesus?  What about:

One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went awaygrieved: for he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

I once overheard one of Cayman’s bigwigs, someone with a mansion in Patrick’s Island and a couple of really sweet cars, questioned as to how he could call himself a Christian, and still own all this expensive "stuff".  He said, "Jesus wants us to have nice things."  Hmmmmmm.

      • anonymous, says:

Don’t beat up on Mr. Peguero so hard when it comes down to riches. There are Christian millionaires, and  billionaires. They write Books and make millions. Some preachers were lawyers, and doctors and very successful businessmen. Some of them do not even take a salary they have their own financial support system away from the church.

God called them into the ministry and they are still wealthy, they were wealthy before they entered the ministry!. They feed the poor world wide. The more they give away the more God gives back to them You can’t beat God giving no matter how you try. That is the law of giving. It will come back to you in good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over!  Luke 6:38

Jesus was rich he hired Judas Iscariot as his Treasurer!. Judas was assigned to go into the Bag take out money to help the widows and orphans and the poor. No poor man has a Treasurer or an Accountant. Jesus had to pay his disciples who had families, like Peter, John, Andrew, James they were on Jesu’s Payroll!  They left what they were doing to follow Jesus. They were all businessmen professionals. They made more money following Jesus than they did when they were in Business!

We do not criticize Pastor Peguero for being wealthy. We are critical of what is happening in this isolated situation. It does look very suspicious,. The BIble says shun the very appearance of evil Maybe Pastor Peguero needs to say "No" to temptation when  the tempter shows him all the Kingdoms of the world, that’s what Jesus did.

This is a natural reaction of the christian community along with the secular community, especially in a time when the church is not doing enough to present Jesus Christ to our Young people making him more attractive to them than living a life without Him. Too much valuable time is spent by our Pastors in association with twisted politicians who are knowingly deceived and trying to deceive us daily as we catch them in their lies.

Need I refer to the Dormant Account situation?

The Bible says ‘ALL LIARS SHALL HAVE HEIR PART IN THE LAKE OF FIRE"?

Ah, then you are a follower of Oral Roberts and the other "prosperity gospel" preachers.  To my mind, scripture needs to be tortured and history ignored for this view to prevail.  I am not sure how you square the scripture above (and the countless other examples of Jesus admonishing the rich) with these ideas.  But…to each his own.  Yet another reason why I find Christianity baffling.   So many different interpretations, and everyone is sure their own is right….

What do you make of this?

1 Tim 6:3-12: " If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,  useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.  Now godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.  But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.   For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.  But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.   Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses."

Peguero is really taking advantage of this position he was given.  All you hear is that he is travelling here and there for purposes that are already in place like the Shipping Registry.  What can he add.  I must say that I voted for the UDP, but with this type of appointments of people who know nothing and are taking advantage of public funds, I am very disappointed.  I will do an FOI and I want to know how much Peguero has spent and whether he is making a salary from government now that I understand he has taken a 6 month leave from the church.  Some pastor.  That goes for all the others around here who want to be politicians and use the church to brainwash people.  As a Caymanian, I certainly do not want Peguero representing my country at that level.  XXXX  CNS, I sure hope you publish this.  I am so mad.

Mr. Papesh is connected to Cayman as the head of the new office set up in Dubai for investments.  He is making a five figure salary from the Cayman Islands Govt. on this position.

Mr. Papesh is also the MD of this company and he is making a six figure salary at the same time.

How much of these expenses are really for us?  With so many high profile positions? Can he really get the job done for us if he has to be between the two?  And why must we have an office in Dubai, has this been justified?  Because I can only see business going to Dubai and staying there, including ours, but I don’t see anything coming back from Dubai!

I think this speaks  a whole lot about ‘paper trails’.  MOre DOUBLE DIPPING going on at our expense from across the seas, but yet the Premier says we are broke 🙁

The madness will stop when we kick their sorry asses out of our house and put some people in their with a set of steel balls and with vision and with compassion for the Caymanian people.  This will only be obtained when we stop looking for handouts at Election time or like the status holder told me the other day ‘my vote is for sale’.  That’s what we have turned this country into under the UDP rule.  They are selling votes and this should be stopped.  The last election we had slips of paper handed out on election day, it was documented by the news medias and the RCIP has done nothing to investigate it.  That’s corruption.  The Govenor has not as asked for an update on this investigation.  They act afraid to do anything.  But we the people must continue to give them support.  Suggestion to those who want our support, start showing us yours by doing what is right for this country and it’s people.  Stop allowing elected officials to get away with breaking the laws and not being prosecuted for it.  Recently a politician ran off the road at night and it was blamed on being tired and overworked as the excuse, sure I agree with the over working part and that was their hand to their mouth to raise a number of alcoholic beverages, that was the cause of that hard work, an over exercised arm.

So lets’ see how long it will be before they say they have to cut salaries again, and increase taxes on something to justify these world tours they are all on.

While they are away the country goes to hell on a silver platter!!

Maybe some of them will go missing before they return, we would certainly be a lot better off without them.

I have no idea what the politicians were doing there other than possibly  hoping that the good things the Registry is doing will appear to the public as their work, either that or they perhaps trying to get their holidays paid for.  It is sad to see so much extravagant waste eating away at the soul of Cayman.

Who paid for the Mrs. trip, I hope CG can say it was him, and not our broken government. Come on folks wake up these sort of adventures are not going to help us one bit. Now I also understand Mr. Peguero is off to Dubai, who is accompanying him, and will he attend the cocktail parties and enjoy some of the best wine in the world? I hope and pray to God he will ask forgiveness for leaving the church to go have a sway of the world, the Lord don’t like these kinds of things, and the church should stand against it.

Someone need to hold my mule, but I just about had it with these pastors and preachers that are abiding OUTSIDE OF THEIR CALLING.

Pastor Peguero you would do the country more good if you would arrange a BIG TENT REVIVAL  with some of the world leading Gospel Evangelists and let that Tent sit  325 days a year with various Evangelists preaching the Gospel and winning the lost. Some people will never go to church because of  religious people. But they will go where there is GODLY PEOPLE who show them LOVE AND CONCERN FOR THEIR WELL BEING.This would contribute in helping shape our country from a crime ridden society to a safer and better place to live in.

People are hurting, they are devastated with no hope, our young people are robbing banks and businesses because they can’t find work and have lost all self worth. they cannot feed their families anymore, they lack education. Bottomline is, they need God in their lives. Will you rollup your sleeves and help them?

I am very disappointed that modern day preachers are not maximizing their influence for the Gospel Sake in the manner in which God expects of us. If you Ministers are not going to focus on hurting people, then shut down the churches and open up some Supermarkets or strip malls. You would do the country better service.  I am sick to my stomach. I’m sure God is as well.

It isno wonder our country is experiencing spiritual and moral decay.

There is a time and a season for everything. now is not the time to be associated with Yachts and the world’s wealth. Now is the time to go soul searching and throw out the lifeline to a hurting people.

Young people don’t rob banks because they cannot find a job or lack education. Theyrob banks because they are thugs and because they can.

Meanwhile supposedly intelligent people apparently believe it could be a valid reason to rob simply because someone does not have a job and thereby create an environment where criminals are seen as victims.

Why don’t you stop kidding yourself. There are much poorer places than Cayman and they are not full of bank robbers, burglars, drug dealers and murderers.

I agree yes that in a time where the country is crime ridden, and there is lack of education of our youth  which is as everyone is aware; this is the root of crime l7:02 doesn’t seem to get it.

The country has only 57,000 people, if our clergy and the churches were doing their job, the crime rate would not be so high.

They are spending more time chasing politicians in high places than they are feeding the sheep.

The US does not allow pastors to tell their members who to vote for. It is against the law.

There ought to be a law in the Cayman Islands prohibiting pastors from influencing or dictating to their members who to vote for. It destroys the country and is clearly responsible for THE WRONG PEOPLE GETTING ELECTED.

Unscrupulous politicians always try to get these people in their back pockets and vice versa:

-Bankers to victimize those people who speak out against them

-Pastors to dictate to members to vote for them and make their crooked dealings look honest in the eyes of the constituients.

-And Developers to sell property to even if they have to take away the poor people’s land and resell it for millions while raking in huge profits in commissions for themselves. The native winds up living on a small reservation they can barely pay for with the few pennies compensated for their family inheritance.

People get angry when you tell them the truth. It never ceases.

Oh Holy Crap…I wonder if they were shopping for a Cayman ark? Make sure you can hold all of us now…don’t be greedy.

The fleecing of Cayman.  If there is any doubt in your mind about the expenditure of public funds for this trip, then here are some very basic questions that need to be answered:

    1.  What are the annual revenues of the CI Shipping Registry?

    2.  What are the annual expenditures of the CI Shipping Registry?

    3.  What are the qualifications for members of the Cayman delegation who attended the event in Monaco?

    4.  What would happen if the CI Shipping Registry ceased to exist?

When the answers to these questions are made public, we will be in a much better position to understand the relevancy of the CI Shipping Registry and whether this is yet another example of a black hole for government funds.

    • Anonymouse says:

In the early days of the present Shipping Registry it was a drain onGovernment coffers, because the englishman who was appointed to operate it chased all the vessels off the flag. Once he had cleaned out all the ships he purchased a yacht and sailed off back to the UK to live happily ever after. Most of these vessels were rust buckets who gave the Cayman Islands Ships Registry a dismal view.

The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry has come a long way in reversing its International image and is now recognised as one of the Premier Shipping Registries for Yachts and Ships.

The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry pays its way and provides funds to the Government coffers, unfortunately it do not offer much in the way of Premium employment to Caymanians and is mostly beneficial to the expat employees who work there.

The Registry is a prime example of the lack of expertise among the Caymanian population who once claimed to be some of the worlds best seafarers.

      • Rabble Rouser says:

The Director of the Shipping Registry is a Caymanian, and his father was one of those world’s best seafarers you refer to.

Experience at sea cannot be translated in knowledge of everything that pertains to ships registry anymore than the ability to drive would qualify you to be a mechanic.

The first qualification for working at the Shipping Registry is a sound education, and it is the same for all of the better jobs in any other sector of the workplace. Being Caymanian is not a qualification, and anyone who still thinks that it is needs to get over it in a hurry.

Joel Walton is a well educated and talented individual. Unfortunately, the Shipping Registry’s gains have come at a loss for the entire country because of the political machinations that prevented him from becoming our Financial Secretary.

Spare a thought for poor Joel Walton. There he is trying to have an intelligent conversation with important people and he has to introduce "We can change the laws" Glidden and "Si, nos podemos" Peguero.

CNS do a FOI for their expenditure of this trip.

    Having stayed in Monoco at

    10 rooms a night

    30 meals a day

    + Airfairs

And then find out how many yachts were added.

CNS: Why don’t you do the FOI?

    • Anonymous says:

Yea – you do the FOI – why should CNS – you seem to have lots of time on your hands – you do the FOI and forward the results to CNS. Cant wait to see them.

hahahahahahahaha! This is so funny! LMAO! "Brain storming" in Monaco? Hahahahahaha, I love that one! "Brain storming"??? LOL! I just can’t stop laughing hahahaha…….

  35. Anonymous says:

Hmmm…the Principality of Monaco is certainly a very nice place to go for a brain storming session about yachts, and, of course, to enjoy its breathtaking Mediterranean ocean views, five star hotels / casinos / clubs / restaurants while sampling the life of the rich and famous in a small, picturesque European country thousands of miles away from a small three-island country with beautiful ocean views of the Caribbean!

It is also very nice to read that "The trip delegates are expected to submit a draft report to the Premier, the release said  and the NIC plans to partner and work closely with the CI Shipping Registry to further develop and strengthen the sector."   No doubt the Premier will be happy to share not only this report with the electorate but also a breakdown of the costs incurred by these delegates (and any others who happened to accompany them) for airfares, hotel, taxis, restaurant and entertainment etc during this so important trip, after all it is the people of Cayman who has to foot these bills so they have a right to know.

    • Anonymous says:

If they want the Premier to read the report they had better give lots of details on the casinos and food.

I feel so much better now that Fresh Image has explained it all.

Instead of just wasting our money on holiday junkets for their political supporters, some money is also being spent on a new PR firm who will tell us how wonderful we should be feeling about it all.

I see that Fresh Image, with a local PO Box, Miami telephone number, and operating out of an apartment in Sunny Isles, also lists "Social Media Blogging" as one of their services. Does this mean more "thumbs up" for Big Mac and "thumbs down" for his critics?

ummmmmmm Monaco….yachts….ummmmmmmm…..wish I could afford that trip! Seems like Mr. Peguero has finally found his calling!

    ‘increase understanding of global issues’

‘yachting industry is dependent on the strength of relationships and the level of cooperation and understanding that exists between owners and the industry’

‘insights gained from the trip, particularly with regards to constraints and opportunities, would allow for growth opportunities for Cayman’

thanks for the waffle though, i’ll hopefully remember this the next time i have to justify my next monaco junket…..

"Brain Storming" – so that is what B***S*** means. I guess all the poor people’s money they spent on their jolly was justified – at least in their eyes. No money for the children’s text books but hey, Cline and William got so see some big boats and eat in some fancy restaurants. That makes it right.

  40. Anonymous says:

Oh well we can tell our children that there are no text books for them to study with because it’s more important for the yachts to come to Cayman.

The monies waisted on a trip to Monaco can you imagine how much money it’s costing for them to be there???

Our money is what there using for the trip. How dare them.

I’m not even going to bother with this one, they are making this too easy. No fun!
