Cops plan Christmas crime prevention campaign

| 02/12/2010

(CNS): Following the announcement that the police will be cracking down on poor driver the cops have also said they will be launching a campaign next Friday for a Christmas crime prevention drive. A police spokesperson said the RCIPS will be encouraging Cayman residents to pick up some crime prevention tips when they go shopping next weekend at the supermarket. Police officers will be stationed at the islands main supermarkets to provide shoppers with advice, information andtips on personal safety. “We hope that this will help to combat burglary and other thefts of personal property this Christmas,” the spokesperson added.

From 3pm to 6pm on Friday 10 December officers have enlisted the assistance of Fosters ,Hurleys and Kirks supermarkets in this one day anti crime partnership. The festive season often sees a spike in burglaries and break-ins and given the current increase in crime in Cayman the police can expect a particularly pressing holiday season.

Inspector Tricia Bodden is the officer in charge of the event and she explained that the main purpose of the campaign was to get people thinking about protecting their property in the run up to Christmas. “We want everyone to have a great holiday without the anguish of being a victim of burglary and theft,” added Bodden.

Can the Police pleeeease concentrate on REAL Police work.

This is similar to CUC telling us to turn off the lights to save electricity….while enjoying a Govt. sanctioned Monopoly….with guaranteed returns.

Speaking of inevitable, the time will soon come when we are all left to clean up the mess left behind by one of our school bus drivers. I knew they were out of control but only yesterday afternoon did it come to light exactly how much.

While the parents slog away in their offices, the bus drivers take the lives of their children in their hands.

I changed my route at 3pm yesterday and ended up on South Sound Road. Thought I would be safe following the school bus. When I reached 45 mph (in a 30mph zone) and the bus was still pulling away from me, I decided I should probablydrop back as I can’t really afford the speeding ticket right now.

I thought he would slow down when he approached the rental car in front but alas he overtook!

As I watched 3 or 4 buses in a row slide around the Grand Harbour roundabout, full speed ahead, part of me wished I had a video camera with me.

But don’t take my word for it, just go and sit along South Sound road any school day afternoon and see for yourself.

More of the same. We are under a huge crime wave and it appears that they can station Constables and Inspectors to get this event together to tell people to lock their doors and more of the same of Dr.Whites wonderful presentation on the criminals being rational – light your properties up, but cannot engage armed suspects raining havoc on the community in broad day light most of the time within minutes of the Police Stations. We have monkeys that at best that are tucking their tails inside their pants rolled into a ball to avoid being identified, robbing left and right and the Police are setting up a booth to hand out leaflet??  The Police high command are not much more then a laughing stock amongst any "rational" thinking person.

LMAO! Police officers will be stationed at the islands main supermarkets to provide shoppers with advice, information and tips on personal safety.

thanks alot but will you all be there to protect us?? you stated correct advice and tips but officers we need protection, and not only at the supermarkets, you all need to watch cops and see what those guys do on a daily basis.

we all know how to stay safe i just only thing we need the forces protective power and not have when i roll up to a GaS STATION in my BENZ GLK on 22" there is a guy running in with a gun trying to get rich, station to protect and provent.

  5. Keep Left! says:

It’d help if they would clear the confusion between British and American driving here.  In Cayman we use the British style which is to drive on the left.  Which also means in two lane roads such as Shamrock Road you KEEP LEFT AT ALL TIMES unless you are overtaking a vehicle which is driving slower than you.  This would stop all the constant dodging lanes, particularly every morning and evening in the rush hour.  Also teach folk that when they enter a two lane roundabout turning right, they should be in the right lane.  If turning left or going straight ahead stay left.  Failure to observe this simple procedure on roundabouts leads to the problems we experience every day here in Cayman : the car in the (wrong) left lane is turning right and the car in the (wrong) right lane is turning left or going straight ahead.  Inevitable outcome: crash!

    • Keep Left! says:

To further clarify, If you’re turning right, you should NEVER be in the left lane approaching or on a roundabout, until you pass the exit before the one you are taking, when naturally, you go into the left lane to take your exit.  If you’re going straight ahead, only use the right lane of a roundabout if the exit you will take also has two lanes, and stay in the right lane all around the roundabout and taking your exit, don’t veer directly across the path of those driving, (correctly) to the left ofyou in the same direction, and its better still not to cuss and gesticulate at that other person when YOU are the one in the wrong!
