Rescued boater dies
(CNS): Police have confirmed that one of the four adults who were rescued after their 18-foot vessel overturned in the sea off South Sound Saturday afternoon has died. Yesterday the RCIPSreported that one of the people on board was critically injured and was transported to George Town hospital, but he apparently succumbed to his injuries. A police spokesperson said that more details would be released later. After the RCIPS received the report at around 3:53pm Saturday, 25 June, the police Air Operations Unit and the Joint Marine Unit were deployed to the area and all four from the vessel were rescued. With condolences to your departed relative, I know he will be missed.
I was at Sunset House, and can tell you the Sunset Divers boat was already out helping someone with a kite. The police helicopter was there all the time, and I know police near me were speaking to them. They were joined by an ambulance before the Divers boat came back with everyone, and were ready waiting. I think I even saw a policeman driving the ambulance when it left. Everything was too far out to see what was going on, but the helicopter was low over the Divers boat and seemed to be with them all the time. It seems we all have seen something different, and everyone quick to criticize? Perhaps CNS could check with the police?

Lies and more lies….All i can say is what i saw for myself. I was at a bbq and noticed all the activity and commotion in the water between Texaco and Esso. I saw a Dive boat from Sunset House going back towards Sunset House and i found out they had rescued the persons from a small boat that had turned over. A few mins later i noticed the helicoptor flying around and two jet skis running around racing each other. It didnt look like they were searching for anything because they were just speeding around. A couple of men showed up and walked down to the ironshore and were looking out to sea with binoculers and i heard one of the men talking on the phone directing the Harbor Port boat to the overturned boat. It was the Harbor Port boat and the men on the ironshore that found the overturned boat, the jet skis and helicopter went no way near where the boat was. I watched the Harbor Port boat tow the sunk boat back towards the GT dock.
What would have been so hard about reporting exactly what took place and thanking the real people who did the job. It makes me wonder how many other rescues they did but really didnt do, but just took all the credit.
Good job everyone, especially the one who actually did the work.
So sad & unnecessary. The seas were too rough. People need to be better prepared or not go out. Don't blame the RCIPS etc. for this one.

My condolences go out to boater and his family and the tragic circumstances that he loss his life under. Marine safety needs to be taken serious. In a recent Police request for their 30 million budget and i Quote”the go faster vessel were proving their worth and in conjuction with the air support unit intercepting canoes. They can rush out there for Drug canoes but a life or search and rescue duties does not seem to have the same importance. As i read the Cayman Compass one senior police officer does not same to know the difference between a Jet ski and a vessel. Well Cayman it appears drugs are more important than people. The Marine unit obviously is not conforming with the multi tasking that they are suppose to do and expected to do. Cayman is hemorrhaging badly when our our Police service who are entrusted to save lives and tell the truth cannot seem to do either. What a mess, incompetence reigns
Why try and manipulate the facts the RCIPS again caught with their proverbial pants down. While they were out frolicking on the toys we provided to do their duties all we seem to get is trickery and manipulation of facts. Eye witness to incident said Sunset House dive boat working to save occupants of overturned vessel Police Jet ski.s jumping waves. Yet their news release paint a different picture about their response, Well unfortunately fate and situation never plays the same game, The tragic loss of an ill fated member of this vessel only stands as a reminder we need to be more responsible in whatever decisions we make as it could mean life or death. What a state we in Cayman all because some people wanted power who had no leadership skills.
Stop beating down the poor old Police that is the best they can do, like one poster said a lie is better than an excuse these days. The problem of poor and incompetent leadership endangers everyone’s safety even these foolish boaters.$30 million dollars will hopefully remedy this situation?

And how many were wearing lifejackets? We need boater safety courses and safety inspections! This could be a revenue generator too, just like car licensing….see below:

Props to the response units for a job well done. Hopefully the person in hospital will make a full and quick recovery.
So un-necessary though – why do people persist in going out in rough seas in small boats? It's only just over a year since the last boat was lost.

Everybody was saved by the staff of Sunset house and private citizens, the helicopter was just flying around spending fuel, the 2 police jet skies arrived when everybody was on land, the only thing they did is get entangled in the sail of the kite surefer (5th person in stress), somebody tell Mac to add in the budget a new jet sky engine.
I could live with these useless police, but the way they take credit for somebodies else efforts is a shame!!
