$20,000 reward for shooter
(CNS): The RCIPS has announced that it is offering a reward of US$20,000 for information leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the men who shot the 57-year-old gas station worker in Bodden Town on Wednesday night. “While we are getting some information from the public,” said Commissioner David Baines, “nothing has yet come in which is translating into enough hard evidence to allow arrests to be made. Meanwhile, the reward offered for the arrest of the masked men who shot Kemar Golding in the face on 29 June stands at US$10,000 — $5k from the local branch of CrimeStoppers and $5k pledge made by the Cayman Islands Brewery. The 57-year-old woman was shot during a heist at Lorna's Texaco in Bodden Town at around 10:08 pm on Wednesday evening, 13 July. Police say she was leaving the gas station and crossing the road to her car when a masked man appeared from the bushes brandishing a firearm. The robber threatened the woman and grabbed her handbag. The robber discharged several shots injuring his victim in the shoulder and knee before running off with her bag. The woman was taken to the Cayman Islands hospital where she is being treated for the injuries.
Announcing the RCIPS reward for her shooter, Baines said, “Today I’m asking for anyone who knows who these people are to come forward. They may be your friends, brothers or cousins, but can you stand by and condone what they have done by keeping silent? It is absolutely imperative that we get the men responsible for this heinous crime off the streets before someone is killed. That’s why today we are issuing the reward in the hope that it may just persuade anyone who has information, but for whatever reason has not yet come forward, to do the right thing.”
Golding was a brewer for Caybrew and his employers issued a statement in the wake of his miraculous survival putting up the money for information leading to the conviction of the gunmen who shot him during the failed robbery attempt at the Red Bay jerk stand. Golding had been helping his friend who worked there dispose of garbage on the night of Wednesday, 29 June.

I work in a hotel in west bay , At about 1.55am i checked a young man by the name /???????? , on the 15 july 2011 , he was from north side and he was talking about the robbery that happened in bodden town , i know this young man is involved or he knows something because i didnt ask him about any robbery, he just started talking about it, when i checked him in he said if the police came looking for him i musnt informed of his staying here, again why say that, this person also destroyed our hotel room and almost cost me my job. their was a young lady with him About 5 inches tall with light brown skin ,hair to shoulder (DARK BROWN) .
He is also caymanian, dark brown skin, height 72 inches tall, has a scar on face . XXXXX

Police need to do a sweep in each district and weed out the bad eggs. Reduce the movement of district criminals travelling from one district to the other. There are too many strange faces appearing across the island, which are known to all as bad eggs.
Bush should have been using his $10 million slush fund to put up big rewards all along. Catching these people would be a big step toward nation building.
These low lives will be caught and punished to the full extent of the law.

Commissioner Baines your strong words and warnings are all well and good on paper, but this is a time where we are fed up as Caymanians and want to see a full force of action carried out.
To those who encourage and become part and parcel of these criminals they must be punishable in the Court of Law as an example to any other that concopt or colude in their dirty criminal deeds. Our country is in need of an overall house cleaning to bring Cayman back to Trust, Traquility and Respect for the Laws of the Country. HELP is needed from our Politicians, Citizens, Immigration and Labour Depts. to make this happen with guts and galls to readicate the ill-wills that dominate the Cayman Islands.
The Bahamanians did justice to their country. WHY?? are we waiting to accept more criminal activities, such as Drugs, shootings, Robberies, Evasion of our Laws.
If at all possible the reward should be upted to the same $20000 as the 57 year old woman. After all the poor man has lost an eye. Unless the reward is very attractive no one will probally not come forward.
The truth is no one should need a financial inducement to come forward. I certainly would not.
RCIPS offers reward? When since? Why not Crime Stoppers?

Where does the police get the money to offer a $20,000 reward?
Do they have any description or details of the shooter's stats from the lady? That can be helpful too.
So a Caymanian victim gets a reward offered of 20K and a Jamaican victim who lost an eye and is now fighting for his life 10K ????? The article seems to say RCIPS have offered the reward, please tell us that both rewards are private and the amount therefore is not one of policy by RCIPS..please tell us that someone raised the 20K privately, and that is the only reason for the difference……
What does it matter? These are not the only crimes ever committed.They were crimes committed to Caymanians that no reward at all was offered up for, so at least now they are offering something to encourage people to come forward. What are you trying to say here? Enormous support was shown for Mr. Golding and is still being shown which I am sure he appreciates, by Caymanians, Jamaicans and many other nationalities. One person's life is no more important that the next, both of these innocent people could have been killed so very easily and will forever have to live with horrible memories.
What really matters and what it comes down to is that the person or persons responsible are caught and whether it's 10k, 20k or 0 someone will have the heart to come forward if they know anything.

But she is not a Caymanian as distinct from being a Jamaican which is the point at issue. Her nationality is Jamaican. If you ask her she will tell you that she is Jamaican.

My understanding is that Kemar's employer put up the first $5,000 for the reward related to that incident. Crimestoppers added another $5,000 bringing it to $10,000. The $20,000 raised for Kemar which another poster referred to, was raised at the fundraiser his employer held last weekend for Kemar and his family to see them through his recovery, which will incur much more costs than the medical side of it.
I hope they find them, secure a conviction and get these evil culprits locked away for good and throw away the key.

Make a list of all males between 18 and 40 that do not have jobs. Cross off the ones that don't have criminal convictions or known gang associations. Make enquiries to see which ones can be easily accounted for at the time the crime was committed. Your robbers will almost certainly be among the remainder, and a fairly good number of them will know who did it. Can I have my cheque now?

Something that comes to mind is a reflect on our neighbour Cuba with 12 million people and not one gas station robbery. Why?, because Fidel Castro dont joke around like this Government we have here. When you are caught commiting a crime, they throw away the key on you in Cuba. The police dont joke around with these wannabe bad men, they drive side by side you, roll down their window, look you right in the eye and tell you to pull over, and search every inch of your body and car. Take a trip to Cuba and learn.
