Dart heads to Bodden Town for meeting

| 11/08/2011

(CNS): Members of government and representatives from the Dart Group will be in Bodden Town this evening for the second in its series of public meetings to talk to local people about the For Cayman Alliance. Elements of the deal have a direct impact on the people of both West Bay, where the first public meeting was held, as well as Bodden Town, the district which is going to be home to the new landfill. At the last meeting government representatives spoke for well over two hours about the elements of the project, the Dart Group in general and the changes that will directly impact the community such as the closure of some 2000 feet of the West Bay Road.

The public meeting starts at 7:30pm at the Bodden Town Civic Centre and everyone is invited. At the last meeting the premier indicated that some of the cash which is being given to government by Dart as part of the complex deal which involves land swaps, investments concessions, the development of a new resort as well as public infrastructure projects, may be used to help people struggling to pay their mortgages but he did not spell out how that would work.

For some details of the project visit www.forcayman.com or see factsheet attached on the West Bay projects. and site of new landfill

Caymanians have become one greedy lot of people that have sold their birth rights for a morsel of bread.  There are few acreas of generational lands left 90% of big tracks of Caymanian lands are now in the hands of foreign owners and at the end of the day Caymanians sit and cry about foreigners taking over.

The same is with jobs Caymanians would rather employ foreigners because they want to pay slave wages and if they hire white people they do it for class status because they all have black great great grandmother but don't want to admit it because they want white people to accept them as white which will never happen.  Caymanians are their worst enemies and the sooner they realise it the better, don't blame expats for that blame yourselves.  No expat forced you to sell your lands or give them jobs or status Caymanians choose to do so.    A rude awakining is about to happen in Cayman shortly I just hope those that are so greedy for investors and investment are around to see it and I hope CNS is still around so that comments can be made.

and the NIMBY disease continues to spread….

  4. Cayman Nimby on Dart Island says:

As i look through these glossy projects put on display by Dart and Miss Pilar Bush at the meeting I was somewhat amused and the first thing that came to mind is that this should be called the "West Bay Alliance" not Cayman as most projects are concentrated in the West Bay district including the brand new Batabono Road Town development. The political manipulation and antics at this meeting was so flagrant you could taste it and only the political XXX stooges were given floor time, others were shouted down and ridiculed for their opposing views. The Darts representatives and Miss Bush were so patronizing in their overtones reminding the people of  difficult economic times as if the Nimbies in the audience are so stupid they could understand this fact..

The Dump has to go some where no argument there, but the blatant lies being told by the Ministers and the person hired by Govt/Dart alliance to deal with it was an outright disgrace especially since he was in a position previously to fix this situation. His prompting and signalling at this meeting would make the AsianTriads proud. Nothing against Dart for his contribution to our Island but his past in at least 4 different countries is far too familiar and very troubling. something that neither mIss Doak nor Messrs Bush & Bush ever touch on during these meetings and why would they.

Finally the long time Bodden Town church sister who's church got a tidy sum from the Nation building Fund prayers for the West Bay alliance set the tone for the meeting and its benefactors even though she left right after her benevolent prayer. I  guess the Pastor's role in the UDP government was too obvious. Good luck Bodden Town with the Smell from the Dump please remember what our representatives said the buffer of trees are going to kill the smell according to their expert opinions. Yet once again not one single study done in both areas of raw land to determine what will be theeffects of such projects in these areas by the developer our the Government who now appear to be one.

Don't be so hard on Miss Bush- she is only paid to present this thing, she didn't write it.

And yes, we have to realise that times are hard. If Government said they were going to stop picking up your garbage every week and that the police would only patrol on Tuesdays and your Papa would not be getting anymore seafaring checks and as a result government has to lay off 1800 persons you would be singing a different tune. They cannot say this enough in my opinion.

What government needs to study is how to keep paying for everything not whether some land is good for a dump.

I am so sick of people defending "Ms. Bush".  This is the same woman who championed the destruction of High Rock for Imparato.  Now she's jumped on this band wagon as well.  If these "big players" in Cayman wish to be taken seriously, I would recommend they find someone else who is not there just to talk for the mighty buck.  What an embarassment.  I am to the point that when I see something with the Pilar Bush or Atwater Consulting name attached to it, I just shake my head.  No credibility whatsoever at this point.  She seems like she likes to be paid to be the "token Caymanian".

Miss Bush is also the person who, along with her mother, owned the house in the Golden Triangle in West Bay that Mac insisted we pay twice the value of (I believe it was $700,000)when he decided to purchase it in anticipation of a West Bay dock.

Hey Pilar – care to talk on the Go East Initiative?  I think that was your brainchild too.  Then you thought, "Hey, why not cut a hole and have ships coming in?"  Now you think  "Hey, why not move the dump to Bodden Town."  Nothing but a talking head.

A huge buffer of trees (pre-Esterley Tibbetts bypass) and about a mile as the crow flies between the dump and Parkway Drive off SMB Road couldn't "kill the smell" or the flies for that matter. It even stinks at Kirk Supermarket sometimes. What a crock of cr@p.

17:59 The whole point of a new site is so that it can be properly managed and engineered. Not just a massive pile that get bigger by the day.

So some peoples solution (procrastination) is to just talk about it for another 10 years while the current site is killing the marine life in the North Sound.

        Brilliant.

  5. My 2 cents too..... says:

What’s all this blabber about the dump trucks running through the narrow streets of BT; weren’t they doing that all alone to pick up ya'll garbage anyway?! *SMH*

  6. Anonymous says:

I'm sure the CIG and Dart both know that no matter where it goes there will be cries of not in my backyard. You can't please everyone, so just make the call and live wih the hate is all they will do…

    • Anonymous says:

Then why please dart at the expense of other land owners? Why not reloate it closer to Camana Bay?

Do the same infrastructure works, line it properly and fill the big hole to be dug. If a dump is such a great thing to live next to, put it closer north to Camana Bay.

Or is it only poor people who get the exclusive perks to living next to a DUMP?

      • Anonymous says:

So you finally get it. The reason its going to Boddentown is because the CIG couldn’t afford to do anything about it. So along comes Dart to the rescue he’s solving a problem the CIG could not. And since he was giving the land away for the dump it puts him In A position to decide which land he wants to give away for it. Of course he won’t put it in his own backyard why would he……I’m sure you wouldn’t

        • Anonymous says:

If it was Dart's dump he could put it on any on his lands as he wants. However, it is a public dump so the public majority should have the say as to where it goes (or stays) – therefore, i say put it closer to camana bay.

I live in WB and I guess I'll be paying higher garbage fees – farther to transport my garbage. Wait. Thought I heard there would be no more garbage fees??!! Whooppee, Dart paying for my garbage!!

    • Anonymous says:

Well I live in Bodden Town, and I have to pay to get into the turtle farm

  9. Anonymous says:

Does everyone understand that this is not going to be the same type of dump like we have in George Town? This will be done properly and I don't  think land values will drop. Try buying a piece of land around the dump in George Town, the prices are ridiculously high. It will also bring jobs to our district and other business such as restaurants, gas stations and other stores will benefit.

This may be the last opportunity we have to resolve the landfill issue. Let's not slap the gift horse in the mouth until we hear what he has to say.

No bring the dump to West Bay!  I want these amazing benefits from having a dump in my backyard…

UDP is what Bodden Towners wanted, well, that's what they have.  It should've been closer to some of their supporters.  Let them lift up their UDP representatives and kiss their XXXX.  Good job.

    • Anonymous says:

Dont let Bodden Town people fool you.  Next election they will be keeping UDP government.  Stick to the follishness we know.

    • anon says:

No other person would be able to represent your constituency better than an Independent member of the lefgislative assembly. Get off the party bandwagon and think smart. Next election, I will be looking forward to see more Independents and less UDP and PPM runners.

      • Anonymous says:

Hasn't it dawned on you that the day of Independents has passed? It is people like you wasting their votes on Independents that caused Mckeeva to return to power and now we are all paying for it.

I would just like to thank the B.T. representatives for bringing the damn dump into our back yard.  What a great initiative for our district, dump trucks running through the narrow streets of B.T.  Good jobs fellas, maybe we should put the damn oil refinery in the adjacent water across the road for consistency.  This whole projects stinks lol and I'm sure whether the future prospect of this projects well stand due to the circumvention of the CTC process by the current government.  A solution for the dump should be sought but it should be awards within the confines of the procurement procedures laid out within the CTC progress then we wouldn't have a impending law suit on your hands.

    My 2 cents

    • Anonymous says:

I agree, this is total ludicrous!  If the dump is moved to BT dump trucks running the the narrow streets will be an entirely new thing, it's not like they drive through these streets now picking up my trash…oh wait…

      • Anonymous says:

At the same frequency? No.. wait…

      • Anonymous says:

Be fair and think about it, if the dump is in BT district, there will be a lot more garbage trucks going through there to deliver the garbage to the dump. I thinkit's a fair comment that there will be a lot more heavy traffic on those narrow roads, and maybe a lot of it will be at night. Our garbage is picked up at 3am twice a week and wakes me up every time. I wouldn't want ALL the trucks passing my house, dribbling their stinky water waste. If you think that is NIMBY, so be it.

        • RS 500 says:

17:55 sorry if I offend but you are wrong. the garbage trucks will NOT be coming through BT they will traveling on the brand new east west road that will be constructed by Dart to gain clear access to the new properly engineered and managed landfill facility.

The facts have been presented, let's not cloud those with marl road rumors.
