Lightning strike brings TV blackout

(CNS): WestStar TV have reported that lightning strike to the TV Centre last night caused a power surge that knocked out multiple low noise block-downconverters (LNBs) on multiple satellite antennas. After receiving notice that many cable channels had dropped, WestStar Engineers immediately went to the TV Centre to assess and repair the damage, though, as Head WestStar Engineer Charles Stone noted in a release from the television company, it is not safe to work on the damaged satellites during a lightning storm. Once the storm had passed, repairs began immediately and the crew was able to restore all but the following channels: 12, 21, 24, 27 & 115.

According to WestStar, this is a top priority for the company’s engineers and they are working to restore all connections as soon as possible.WestStar TV Limited is the only company in the Cayman Islands that provides digital cable television service and provides a wide selection of entertainment, news, children’s, sports, and now HD programming.

    I'm with Dish Network and its great. Cristal clear HD, plenty of channel choice, HD DVR…never been happier. Maybe goes down twice a year when it rains really hard, other than that – NO PROBLEM. Happy camper.

    not sure why anybody would pay twice as much for crappy tv service. and when it rains you see the Dish network screen, why not just pay dish direct for 50% less.

    Why do people subscribe to Westar when they can get Dish Network? Is it just to get local TV? My Dish is wonderful-had it for years-when I go to friends' houses their Westar picture is supremely crappy.

    From what I understand Weststar do not pay for content, they are pirating the signal – which makes the prices they charge truly outrageous!!!

    every one support the guy trying to get the fibre optic cable to cayman then perhaps we can have good tv connections cheap fast internet also. prices are mad here for 17.99 a month in the uk you get 40mb speed! or if a sky tv customer 4-6MB internet is free!

    When VH1 goes down every weekend, why does a Dish message come up on screen? Do Weststar have proper rights to this channel? Why does it go down every weekend?

    It was more than 5 channels left out.

    Also on lots of channels the picture was freezing. This happens all the time. The picture either freezes or breaks up.

    I hope that the consumers will be compensated, but am not holding my breath

      Damn it…why channel 12? Now I will miss Basketball Wives. The local channels can remain down as I never watch them. Weststar will I be getting a discount on my bill?

        No sorry, I bet you don't. Just like you get no discount at World Gym when they do not run any classes during the day for the whole summer.

      This is my reception on many channels ALL THE TIME – picture freezing and breaking up.  Weststar has come to my home multiple times, tried a new box,  "worked" on the antenna and still no improvement! I can't get Lifetime at all now.  Their service is atrocious.
