K9 ‘persuades’ suspect to give himself up

| 17/08/2011

(CNS): A suspect in a domestic violence incidence who was refusing to comply with police officers requests changed his mind when he came face to face with one of the new Belgian Malinois dogs in the RCIPS K-9 Unit. Police say that at around 4:15pm on Friday, 12 August, police officers were called to a domestic incident at a house in Palm Dale Drive, George Town. When they got there the officers were told that a man had smashed up property inside the house and had threatened his wife. The woman was not injured in the incident but her husband refused to come to the door of the house when instructed to do so by officers. It was not clear to officers where the man was within the home and so the decision was made to deploy Misty the K9 to search for him.

The RCIPS have reported that the dog quickly found the suspect hiding behind a door, and on coming face to face with the Malinois, the man immediately gave himself up and complied with the instructions of the officers to leave the house. He was arrested on suspicion of threatening violence and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Misty the officer has no uniform nor badge and neither does he come with a search and arrest warrant. As far as i'm concerned he can go get a bone to chew and we should all stop the nonsense that comes with this.

Is Misty willing to visit the Gov admin building to persuade a certain person to come clean and answer the questions for the country?

Are there any laws about citizens buying and owning a police trained dog? Will we need a permit?

Great Job, Malinois Shephards are excellent dogs, they are smart, powerful and agile.  Now the cops have great back up partners.

Well at least she earned her kibble.  It was a good move buying these K-9's.  They are used a lot in the US and are needed here too.

Seems from what I have observed so far that the Canines are a lot more reliable and Professional in dealing with our crime situation.

Instead of employing more humans to the force, maybe the RCIPS should consider employing Canine Officers to deal with criminal apprehension and just use humans for paper work and record keeping. The canines could be fitted with cameras to record their activity and the video could be used as evidence in court. That way we could eliminate a lot of the botched work now carried out by humans on the force.

Hmmn….you know it's very scary to think that officers are incapable of searching a house to find someone and needed the assistance of "mans best friend" to do so yet we expect them to find actual missing persons. "Nodding head"

You have such a “NARROW MIND!” Isn’t it possible that the police sent the dog in first to : (1) expidite the search and (2) for the officers and accused safety? And I hope that I do not have to break these down for you!

If Misty did not do a job there would have been another story – I say, put them in use when it is necessary. Nobody knows what was in the thoughts of this man, so the dog too on its role to show him there was someone else that was there to protect the Police – Good job Misty you wil be needed even more at this time.

I'm loving these dogs more and more each time I hear about  them!!!!

Could the trainers teach them to learn to drive now,so we can put them on patrols and catch some criminals faster? That would be highly appreciated! LOL Seriously though, they're getting their jobs done and are doing it well.
