Shots fired at George Town house

| 08/09/2011

(CNS): Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen who shot at a house in George Town Wednesday night (7 September). Police confirmed finding bullets at the scene inside a home in McField Lane, off Mary Street. The RCIPS said that the house was damaged but no one was injured in the incident. At about 10:50 pm the occupants said they heard what they believed to be two gunshots and then discovered two holes in a front window of their house and contacted police. Officers responded immediately, a spokesperson said, and bullet fragments were recovered from inside the targeted home.(Photo Dennie WarrenJr)

Police remained at the location throughout the night and are also expected to continue a scene search this morning during daylight hours (Thursday). In the meantime the police wished to “reassure the public that we are stepping up our patrols to provide high visibility policing in that area,” a spokesperson for the RCIPS said.

Anyone with information should contact George Town police station on 949-4222 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477(TIPS).

No worries… if people are afraid to go in that area, sooner or later the bar will be affected too!

Stupid comment / statement, don't West Bay Road have their own set of issues with night clubs and bars???

Not  to say that the bars are the primary cause for all the crime in the area, but these type of establishments do bring their own set of problems, I agree…. we all need to show respect for each other, that the problem with this place – everyone thinks he or shs is right!!!

Thats why Baines dismantled the hotspot team; they harrassed criminals, recovered guns and they were bad for the economy for breaking up all the late night sessions on Mcfield lane and School road.

Good Policing Strategy, and he even has a jiggsaw powerpoint on how to solve the problem!

      NO; SERIOUSLY HE DOES!

Sad but true that there were several people at Roof top bar who heard at least one shot fired and witnessed two persons walking on the same street the shots were fired from.  We also witnessed another figure dart across the road shortly after that.  In only a matter of minutes the RCIP were on the scene and armed officers came on foot in the direction of the Rooftop but to my knowlege not one Officer came to Rooftop to solicit information from anyone there.  There were two private parties going on and the RCIP may have gained significant info. immediately after the incident if they had any intentions of trying to aprehend this person.  I guess they will post that they want anyone who witnessed anything to come forward with info.  It would have been good to get that right away.  No wonder crimes are occurring and not getting solved and the public needs to be aware of any and every thing they see…everywhere they go…..just in case the RCIP need it at a later date.  No where is safe anymore on this rock we used to know as a crime free paradise.  If anyone thinks otherwise they are as ignorant as our moronic ldictator and they need to get their heads out the sand so they can at least see who shoots them.

This one is scary, these people are normal working class people with no gang affilations etc. just at home for a regular night.

It was one thing for the gangs to go after each other but when they start randomly going after the public…

Another muliti purpose CNS headline. "shots fired". Not a criticism at all CNS, just a sad indictment of how the island is now. Come on Alden! How about a 'no confidence' motion for Baines as well?

Long past the time.  Bring them – don't even let the police know they are here and send them out to clean up.

ah thank you RCIP and please question anyone you believe have no businees in the aera or do not live there in the evenings. If they have no I.D. follow up should be made tu ensure they are giving you their name and address. Never too late for a fresh start but please also be honest wityh us and you need a P.R . whom will say true and things that make sense without insulting our little intellenge and we would be a little more as a matter of fact. I would gladly sit in my car or do patrol after you would do a serious background check on myself @ very little cost to your budget and would feel better that i'm helping insted of having to critise. Anyone else ?

It seems like not a month goes by without some incident in McField Lane (which is not a particularly long road). Can't we just widen the road (the exit into Mary Street is not the best), demolish the houses and get rid of the trouble by eliminating the real problem (the human element)?

McField Lane was a quiet community until they started getting all the bars and nightclubs in the neighborhood.  Children could play on the street and people could walk all hours of the night.  You know nothing about the people of McField, how DARE you make comments about demolishing the homes and elimating the human elements.  Maybe you should go and demolish the homes in your neighborhood?

These are hard working people and of no hurt to anyone.  It makes me as a citizen of these islands so flipping angry when we as a society have taken to shooting up innocent  people's homes.

        what??? talk about dodging responsibility….

if bars and nightclubs were the problem…then smb would be a war-zone…..

the community of mcfield lane and around there are the problem….. who clearly lack self -respect….and respect for others….

McField Lane was a family orient community, until all the bars started arriving to run down the neighbor, the house that was shot, the family in the house is decent citizens.

Poster 09:02 soon come, but first we have to get rid of you first, just remember not all bad people live on McField Lane.  I bet you not a single Caymanian gangster live there.  Like everything else you have bad elements that come into any community and try to bring it down.  You don't know a thing about McField lane as a matter of fact there are not many houses on that road from my recollection if there are 4 that's a lot.
