West Bay UDP team to hold town hall meeting

| 20/09/2011

(CNS): In the wake of the resurgence of gang violence in the district of West Bay, which now appears to be spilling over into the country’s capital, the premier has announced a town hall meeting with his constituents on Wednesday evening. The premier’s office said Monday that McKeeva Bush and his fellow West Bay MLAs, Rolston Anglin, Cline Glidden and Capt. Eugene Ebanks, will meet with the people of West Bay on Wednesday night (21 September) at the John A Cumber Primary School hall beginning at 7:30 pm.

According to the release, the meeting is to discuss issues affecting the district. It did not state if the members of the recently appointed district council would also be present but the meeting is open to all.

I am so glad they found it worthy to take an hour out of their busy schedule to have a meeting it only took 4 people dying for them to decide this was an important matter to deal with what representatives we have in west bay. If they would start making policies that assist caymanians with getting jobs then maybe this problem would reduce even if it does not go away, which I doubt it will it here forever unfortunately. Welcome to the new cayman.

Do you know the biggest gangs in Cayman is the Political parties.  First they have this turf issue, they colour code, they promotes narcissism, they are territorial, savage in their language, hence the gang mentality emerges and it starts at the top.  Clean up your actions and promote statemanship and be our leaders and the gangswill NOT imitate.

They look up to you guys and is saying if you can do it, so can we.

Its sad to see this beautiful country have such problems, I hope the youth will see that there are better ways to live other than gang & drug culture, the world is watching,

  4. EYE ON THE ISLAND says:

These elected offices have never done anything in WB on crime so what do we expect from them but lip service. They need to canethe elected officials and get new ones.

Why don't they hold the meeting outside the district of WB? As long as it's in that district – I for one, will not be there, worse at night! My family and I have literally just moved out of the district I grew up in, for the security of me and my children and we don't plan to go back there anytime soon.

I will not be attending the meeting because I am sure that as always the premier will blame others, he will blame everyone but himself. I am tired of it, & I am tired of his excuses, tired of him passing the buck, & tired of him blaming others!

High crime is like mucus which infects our Cayman society. We can stare the problem in the face and point fingers but we are not looking at prevention, but just a quick solution to put a “plaster” over the “wound” so nobody would know it was there. I would like to know what is being done to prevent other children from having the same fate.

We talk about unemployment but let high school students graduate when they cannot read or write properly. You know that they are problem children and they require a lot of additional help. There are no training programs in place to correct this, but you let them out as the "schools" did what they could = unemployable young persons / robberies

We talk about building docks and grand hotels. What about working on community projects that keep children entertained instead of being idle on the streets? We all see the children at Camana on a Friday, walking around like ghosts after the movie is over trying to find something to do = prey to idleness

We have these persons who want the fast life of being drug dealers and being part of gangs because they lack leadership, they are not punished severely, they are your neighbours yet you say nothing = senseless killings, corrupting the young, infecting their minds/bodies with poison along with others and knowing they can get away with it

These are not even half of the problems that children face today in Cayman!! Only the strong few who have the support of others make something of themselves. Only the smarter children in school are thought about opportunities when they graduate.

So please go ahead and tell me this is not your problem. We all have a vested interest. The government wants money and good publicity. Persons in Cayman want to feel safe. Businesses would like to make money instead of worrying about the safety of their customers/employees. Children in Cayman needto have a future instead of being placed "last" on the "agenda" and only dealt with when they are doing "wrong". Look at the future we have here Cayman. It takes a community to raise a child. Stop turning a blind eye from the children who are the future of this island.

If they published a numbered list of the same tired old finger pointing excuses and handed the list out at the door they could just call out numbers instead of giving speeches and the meeting would go quicker.

Someone needs to warn the airlines that there will be an enormous amount of hot air rising from West Bay at that time.

  13. Anonymous says:

They are holding the meeting to blame the PPM, The Governor, and the press for Caymans problems.

Why don't they hold the meeting in Birch Tree Hill to reassure the residents of the area that their safety is a priority?

    • Anonymous says:

      DUH!!! Cause it isn’t!!

    • Anonymous says:

If you knew West Bay, you would realise that Birch Tree Hill is only a stones throw away.

      • Anonymous says:

I'm having some difficulty with measuring distance, is a stone's throw longer or shorter than a shotgun blast in West Bay?
