No arrests yet in robbery

| 13/10/2011

(CNS) Updated – Despite reports to CNS that the police had apprehended one of the suspects following a robbery on Thursday afternoon at Funky Tangs, police say that one person is currently assisting them with their enquiries but no arrests have yet been made. The RCIPS were called to the incident at 1.30 this afternoon at the electronics and music store near the Countryside shopping village in Savannah. Four men entered the premises, one armed with what appeared to be a gun and ordered the female staff member to get down on the floor. The robbers made off on foot with both cash and electronic items. When the police arrived at the scene the area was cordoned off as the search for suspects commenced and items believed to be connected to the robbery were recovered nearby. (Photo Dennie Warren Jr)

An RCIPS spokesperson confirmed that one man is assisting police with enquiries but no arrests have been made. Investigators and crime scene examiners are still on the scene this evening as enquiries continue.

It had been exactly two weeks since Grand Cayman’s last robbery, whereas throughout 2011 the island has suffered an average of more than one robbery per week. The last place to be robbed was the CUC customer service office at the power company’s headquarters in Industrial Park, which was hit by masked armed men on the afternoon of 30 September.

The RCIPS said further details of the latest heist would be released as soon as possible.

Again, when will they install GPS in all Government cars.

What a joke this has become and embarrassing to our country and ourselves! How would anyone come and visit or invest in us when or Police cant crack down on crime and our politicians are fighting like school yard children.

Yes I agree with 18:42…..there have been many home invasions….why was the robbery in West Bay brought to the attention of the public but others are not….my brother got everything of any value stolen from him…..wiped clean a couple months ago…they finger printed etc and he never heard a word from the police after…my car got broken into and they got really good prints off of it…..I never got a follow up…it would be nice to at least hear if the prints did not match….I think these types of instances are another reason that the public has a hard time beliving in the RCIP….

The reason the West Bay robbery was bought to the media attention last week was because an hour after the robbery was reported, the police had not shown up. A neighbour of the victims called Cayman 27 and the newspapers in the hope it would help the situation.

If you are the victim of a robbery or any crime, please bring it to the media attention. They will report it if they are aware of it.

Does anyone know if there is any truth in the story that there were 4 robberies yesterday, not including funky tangs?  If this is true – call the media – and let them know.

I believe you as I had my house broken into sometimes ago and after calling and insisting that someone come out here and check my broken window two Officers finally came and took finger prints. I havent heard a thing about it and that has been almost two years now. At least they could have come back and even ask me if I had gotten any clues.

Need money for the weekend ? Rob on Thursday, party on Friday. Check the clubs and see which normally poor catch arsepeople a throwing money around. Come on private dicks, get on it !

I listened to the call on my scanner today. The RCIP couldn't organize a weekend in Cayman Kai. One cop had a suspect in custody and none of the Alphas could get ahold of him or figure out which officer it was that had said suspect. There was no chain of command, it took XRay1(helicopter) over 15 mins to get off the ground, no one could find a K9 unit to assist with the search for the remaining suspects. My friends and I were gathered around my scanner laughing our a**es off. The USG, Marine Unit and all the RCIP couldn't catch a case of the clap in a brothel

Ok, but you don't want to be in a helicopter that takes off in less than 15 minutes from being called for.

This tell us something and that is that we need to have at least one police car in every busy area such as this shopping area. If Police are nearby when they are called they can be on the scene really fast and perhaps catch the thieves. Understand that the Police was there really fast today. We are looking for good results on this robbery. Oh what about the CUC  robbery on this one we did not hear but very little although this seemed to be one of the big robberys with so many suffering from shock and almost could have had a heart attack. Or on the other hand with so much mockery perhaps this one was not important. So sorry for those that was there.

When Inspector Powery was in charge of George Town he used to do a lot of that and it made a difference, but since he moved it seems no body else does it. he also had that ho tspot team ( we dont see um now so not sure what they did with them?)

Mr Baines; please note on your Callendar these minor events that may iterrupt your sunbathing/boating time: (1)Halloween (2)Pirates week (3)Christmas!

Also please have them do proper plans with oficer wellfare looked after so Chief Inspectors arent publicly scolding local officers and sending them home for asking for water like it happened in town last year.
