Local media reports corruption arrests in TCI

| 03/11/2011

(CNS): According to a report in the TCI Post, the former deputy premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands has been arrested. The online news site states that Floyd Hall, a member of the previous Progressive National Party government, has been arrested by the special investigation team and has so far been charged with one count of corruption. The former government minister has been released on bail but the TCI posts states that more charges are expected and further arrests of former government officials. The TCI constitution remains suspended after the UK government took over the running of the overseas territory in August 2009 following allegations of considerable corruption and major public finance difficulties.

Control was expected to be returned to the people via an election this year but the UK postponed the national vote until several milestones were reached, including the completion of the alleged corruption investigations. If the TCI Post report proves to be accurate, this will be the first charge made after nearly two years of investigations.

The former premier, Michael Misick, has been accused of building a multimillion-dollar fortune financed from questionable dealings that gave property developers access to crown-owned land, but so far no charges have been brought against the PNP leader, who has persistently denied the allegations.

Just because he looks guilty as sin, it does not mean that he is guilty.

Infact he wont be guilty until he is found to be guilty.

Worldwide asset freezes are generally not ordered upon innocent people.  There has been sufficient grounds to impose those sanctions this summer and Garlick and her team are still going through warehouses of misconduct.

Those of you who are covering up for XXXXX will be fould guilty by at least association and believe me it's coming just as real as Jesus is returning. You can ALL enjoy your moment now but it's not too late to say enough of this nonsense and I am getting off here and now. don't wait till it's too late and be a shame to your families and next generations. bring it out' many of you know that certain things are not right.

Please note that this arrest has come after nearly two years of investigation! The same thing is happening here, the investigation is ongoing & it takes time to build a case, especially when it involves elected officials. It may seem sloooooow, but be patient, two years is not long for a serious investigation into government corruption. "Soon come"

C'mon guys, you have the same authority here that was used in TCI..so please use it to not only weed out those we know about, but also use it as weed killer on those we merely suspect.

Please conduct a fearless Clean up of Cayman, RCIP and Attorney General, before it becomes an epidemic infecting every branch of government.

Yes by all means.  Let the very people who are suspect weed out the suspects that are part of the epidemic infection in every branch of government.  This is the Cayman way of doing things now.  Better to just wait for your ineveitable turn in the UKs Corruption spotlight.  Its coming and Cayman is very target rich.  Like shooting ducks in a pond.

    This is just the beginning!

  7. Chris Johnson says:

Having seen first hand some of the corruption over the years in the TCI and the recent efforts of the SIPT team, seconded by the UK Government to investigate corruption I can assure all that this is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be many more arrests. This might make a few persons here slightly nervous.

I would venture to say not just 'slightly nervous' but very nervous.

      • Anonymous says:

What has happened or how far has the $350,000 DEMANDLETTER, investigation has reached?  Not a peep from the Commissioner of Police.  What are you waiting on?  The Cayman Islands has been in neutral for almost 2 years, we want an answer or told we can shift gear.

        Are you hearing us!!

Face up to it already.  It is going along just as would be expected in grand Cayman.  It is a secret.  It is not going anywhere.  If something comes up it will be open to negotiation by both parties for a fair and equitable ending for both parties and the people will never know the truth.  Why?   Because the people of Cayman have the same power over elected government officials as an expat does.  And for the many wondering how much that is its nothing at all.
