Arrest for Kerran’s murder

| 17/11/2011

Kerran_0.png(CNS):  The RCIPS has announced that a 35-year-old  man was arrested this morning on suspicion of murder in connection to the disappearance of Kerran Baker, who was last seen three and a half months ago. The arrest took place earlier this morning (Thursday 17 November) following a police operation in the Prospect area. The man remains in police custody while enquiries continue. Kerran Natalee Baker, a 25-year-old Jamaican nurse, was last seen on Saturday evening, 30 July, driving her white Honda Civic in the Red Bay area. One of Kerry's friends tried to call her on that night and on Sunday but received no response. When she went to Kerry's home in Arrow Drive, Bodden Town, she found Kerry's bag and groceries on the kitchen counter and contacted the police.

The victim's car was found on Monday 1 August parked off the road close to Pedro Castle, and a set of keys, later confirmed to be Kerran's, was found in the bushes near the car, along with a small patch of blood. The police also release CCTV footage of Kerran in Foster’s Supermarket by the airport at around 7pm on the night that she went missing in the hope of sparking new lines of enquiry.

However, despite the full scale murder enquiry with regular police press briefings and numerous appeals to the public for information, in mid-September police raised the possibility that the young Jamaican nurse had joined a short list of people that may never be found, although they said the case was not closed.

Anyone who has any information in relation to the disappearance of Kerran should call George Town police station on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line  949-7777, or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS).

Lets hope this charge goes somewhere and is not LODGED in with the rest of the cold cases.

The no body no murder was a1660 case called the Camden Wonder case which principal stood for over 300 yrs until 1955 when Regina V Onufreczyk 1 ALL ER 247 which ruled that Circumstantial evidence could be used to charge a person with murder without a body. Yes and we had to bring experts just to do and tell us that. The removal and proverbial gutting of the RCIPS of its most capable officers has benefit many including our former and current colonial power at a tremendous cost to our little society. We are in no way safer then as we are now either! I pray justice be done by and for Ms Baker and the many many others who have been murdered in these islands where justice has been both delayed and denied. I write this in memory of Mrs Estella Scott  Roberts who,s friends and their perseverence made justice possible for her and her Killers. RIP Girl we miss U!

Raffaelle i am impressed with your case law and legal knowledge but you can leave off the All England Law Report with the volume and page number because the average Joe on this web site dont' know what these mean.

      • Anonymous says:

Perhaps this below average Joe could actually make some use of his time by telling us what they mean.

Where do we draw the line between police investigation and police indimidation and sabotage?  Good feeling headlines to awake public sentiment in community where the police are not delivering cannot result in solution and crime solving. Police should do investigation and not profiling.  That is how crimes are solved.

Unless they have some evidence the sad part is the person will probably be released. I had a family memeber, many years ago who went to the police & reported that somone had threatned to kill them, the next day they were found dead and even with teh report & body no one has been convicted. I can only pray that the police will be made to undergo much deeper training than they have in the past and that they eventually will be able to solve what has been and remains unsolved. If the cold case units in the US can do it why cant we?

08:34 Why are you so negative on this matter? There are many things that can go wrong in life  We could be hit by a space object and all be killed. some vehicle could slam into our vehicle and we die

a burglar could invade our home and we are killed.

we could get a heart attack and die instantly

There is an infinite amount of dangers to go around evey day but we can't go around sad and miserable, What a life that would be.?

Wait for the out come. watch the process unfold man. Gosh!!!!

Allow the system to work and when it is all done we can be as critical as we want.

    What about Anna Evans?

I am glad that for Kerran’s sake someone has been arrested though they haven’t yet been formally charged. But I don’t understand how come the Police would never admit that she was murdered.

They never admitted that Anna was murdered. Just missing.

RCIPS Please try and solve Anna’s case too!

  8. Anon says:

It is good to know that the RCIP have been working hard to solve this crime despite their recent silence on the case – that is reassuring.

On another matter: I wonder if they have yet developed a 'suspect' and whether we might soon have an arrest on that $300,000 alleged real estate transaction?

Congrats UK Cops. We just need a few American Police added to the number. Oh thank God we are not seeing those money making people dogging our cars anymore to lock them for parking certain places. Good riddance. Just hope that some Politician dont need or can get votes from any of them or the owners of the companys. Please Mr Politician dont support them.

Really happy to hear this. Just hope that there is some evidence of murder though.Only hope that we will soon hear something of the CUC robbery as there was rumours that folks outside CUC saw them and the get away car. This was only on the news once. Why?

Whilst I would like to see someone arrested for Anna's disappearance as well, I am so glad to see that someone has been arrested for Kerran's. We women are afraid to be out nowadays and it helps a lot to hear that some headway has been made.

  12. Anonymous says:

Congrats RCIPS for continuing the hunt for the perpetrator/s of this crime against Keran.  While Anna still remains missing I hope her case is still hot on your list also and I hope your investigations will find and be able to provide enough evidence to prosecute her violator/s as well.  We are counting on you to find and deliver all the evidence needed to make sure the court can prosecute these scums of the earth to the fullest extent of the law, instead of making fun of you as in the past.  Again thank you for a job well done.

  13. Cman 2 d Bone says:

How can you arrest someone without a body?????  How do we know she is no longer alive?

Where is the arrest for AnnaEvans?  She has been missing much longer and nothing more on this prescious mother?

    • Anonymous says:

      Good question.

In all legal systems in the world you can convict some one of murder even if the body not found. Even if you watch only CSI on TV you should know that. So long as you have cogent evidence including scientific evidence

    • Anonymous says:

Cman 2 d Bone did you even read what you wrote??

"How can you arrest someone without a body???"  &  "Where is the arrest for Anna Evans?"

How do we know either is no longer alive?

      Duh

I am so happy to hear the RCIP continued their efforts with this case. Since Kerran's disapperance there have been so many other high profile criminal incidents and I was afraid this may end up being a "cold case".  Well done RCIP!  Hopefully her family will be able to find some comfort in this news.

  15. Anonymous says:

Very cool to know just because we're not hearing anything doesn't neccessarily mean nothing's going on. Respek RCIP and if he's the one prosecute to the fullest

  16. Anonymous says:

I'm glad they have a suspect, but how can they arrest him on suspicion of murder without having located Kerran?

  17. Anonymous says:

I will say congratulations only if this individual is not released because the police did not have enough evidence.  Too often the public reads these headlines and gets some comfort only to be followed that the individual was released.  To me this is false alarm. Please do your investigation right, get it right, arrest the right person, then write the right headline and get the right results. Right?

  18. Anonymous says:

When they going to arrest someone for ANNA??

  19. Anonymous says:

Hope they have evidence to convict him or or anyone that did this to her.

  20. Anonymous says:

THANK YOU to the UK officers who have made this arrest possible. Without you this would have remained an unsolved crime.

Perhaps we should offer them more money to stay and send back our own  officers to the UK for proper training as they seem to be totally useless in the fight against crime. Six weeks it took these officers to do what our own could not in 3 1/2 months. Kudos to you guys you are well worth it.

  21. Anonymous says:

This was never publicly announced as a full-scale murder inquiry; the last the public heard was some lame duck excuse of how many 'non'-missing' people are reported as 'missing person' who eventually turn up as 'non-missing' after all.

Obviously, and good for them, the RCIPS have been working on a murder investigation behind the scenes all along.

It looks like the 20 specialised police officers and investigators from the UK is beginning to pay dividends….

I wonder when they will begin to investigate and arrest and charge the corrupt, rogue police officers within the RCIPS itself.

    • Anonymous says:

Remember Tempura and a Rubber Ducky.  Didn't go so well did it?

Hopefully, while the UK officers are here, they can solve a few more cases like Anna and why that plane crashed in Cayman Brac because our police are either incompetent, got their heads in the sand, or blind & deaf.

    • Letsby Avenue says:

The problem with the bad apples is that they are very hard to convict with a Cayman jury.

      • Anonymous says:

Especially if he is connected to the UDP, all the UDP MLA members will be in court trying to intimidate the jury again

Ahh Cayman Justice and Cayman Commonsense
