Adam calls on George Towners to nominate council

| 20/11/2011

mike adam_0.jpg(CNS): The UDP’s George Town representative, Mike Adam, is asking residents of his constituency to submit nominations for the district's new advisory council at a meeting Tuesday evening. With the two opposition MLAs boycotting the process because of the government’s decision to appoint rather than allow a vote on members, the UDP minister appears to be spearheading the process. At the first meeting in George Town regarding the process earlier this month, the district’s fourth elected member, UDP backbencher Elio Solomon, was not present. Adam, who is also the government minister for community affairs, encourage the capital’s residents to join in the process of forming the council.

“It is from these nominations that Cabinet will select the members of the Advisory District Council. To those who are approached to be nominated, I say this is a great opportunity to serve and influence the betterment of our community and the country,” Adam said.

All nominations can be handed to any George Town MLA, according to the law, but Adam advised people not to give theirs to opposition members. “Although residents have the right to hand their nomination to any of the four George Town MLAs, people should hold in mind that the PPM have publicly stated that they are boycotting the nomination process,” Adam said as he asked people to attend Tuesday’s meeting, when the deadline for acceptance of nominations would be announced.

Residents can make nominations for general membership or for a particular office, such as chairman, vice chairman, treasurer or secretary. Each district council is allowed a total of ten members. Nominations must be submitted in writing and signed. The nomination must also be countersigned by the nominee to indicate that the person is willing to serve. Both the person making the nomination and the nominee must be residents of George Town. The nomination must be accompanied by a brief biography or resume that indicates the suitability of the person to serve on the Advisory District Council.

According to the law, council members must live in the relevant electoral district and because of special qualifications, training, experience or knowledge of the district be “suitable for appointment to a council”, and according to government, Cabinet will define and decide who is suitable.

The law calls for councils to advise their MLA or MLAs on matters affecting their district as well as issue that may affect the country as a whole.

Nominations can be mailed to: ADC Nominations c/o The Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender & Housing, Government Administration Building, Box 109, Grand Cayman KY1-9000.

Mike Adam has been the single biggest disappointment to the Cayman electorate since the election.  Many thought he was a man who had some integrity.  However it is so clear that he is just another Mac "Yes" man through and through.

I pray for Mr. Mike too. There is no way he can agree with this charade. Many are disapointed Mr. Mike but it's not too late. BE OUR HERO we will stand behind you. God Bless because you are the only potential good man in that whole bunch of followers of I don't care Big Mac. God Bless.

Why do we need an advisory Council too?  We already have elected Politicians that are overpaid and do nothing but collect and make decisions for self gain. Advisory Councils will have to be paid and they will be cherry picked for the Political parties.  We do not need anymore "YES" men in support of the Mac Runaway Locomotive.  We need good Statesmen, who would put Country first, before self.  I hope the George Towners and the West Bayers wake up from that deep sleep and make some drastic changes come next election.  My God, what a way they destroying this here beautiful Cayman Islands.

Elio, I'm very disapointed in you. You have become a yes man and against one man one vote to keep West Bay stooges in office. I can't wait to correct my mistake in working against you and ALL UN Democratic People. It's on big time.

Our politicians are already being paid a great deal of money from the public purse to represent the interests of their electorate.  They gave themselves a raise and pull down a salary and pension simultaneously.  These fat cats are either so lazy they can't be bothered to liaise with the public, or so conflicted with personal enrichment projects that they don't have the time.

Mike as one of your constituients, I am really saddened to see how you have let the UDP government, and the $$$$$$ signs let you become. I had so much confident in you and gave you my vote, but bobo you won't get another one, unless you be a man and stand for what is right, cause if you continue to be a YES MAN for the UDP, I am afraid that your political days are numbered. Think Mike, where you are coming from and look at where you are now and continue to spiral down, people close to you are so disappointed, we can only pray for you and ask God to open your eyes before it's too late, if it's not already. The way this council thing is being done is wrong and I am sure that you realize that too, come on Mike be the man that you once were, and speak up for what's right. I am praying for you.

I believe Mike's time would have been better spent encouraging his colleagues to support the one man one vote rather than wasting time identifying benefits that do not exist in this UDP appointed doomed to fail committee.

I can't imagine anyone of any intelligence who would be willing to serve on a UDP-appointed committee.

This whole thing is a farce. If PPM tried this theUDP would be the first to complain.

Mike you are such a dissapointment to those that respected and voted for you.

The final straw was the one man one vote issue last week.
