Cruise arrivals plummet to historic low

| 30/11/2011

cruise ship by dennie.png(CNS Business): The number of people visiting the Cayman Islands on cruise ships plummeted to an historic low in October, the Department of Tourism (DoT) statistics have revealed. Only 48,603 passengers came to Grand Cayman last month – 43% less than the 85,679 visitors this time last year. The all-time low figure was aggravated by bad weather as well as the diversion of ships to destinations with piers. The Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) said that the situation for the tourism industry is dire as the poor numbers come in the wake of news that even in the best case scenario George Town is unlikely to have cruise facilities until well into 2014. Thatis what you get when you sell jamaican souvenirs by filipino's, made in china for 10 times the price it is worth.

Cayman has nothing specific to show to cruise passengers, other then foreign nationals and high prices.

In addition to all this, the lack of a dock of course is the biggest obstacle.

Politicians and developers are taking to much time to determine who is getting what from the cake.

But Cuba will soo open and that could mean the end of our cruise industrie, and probably will.

By that time the polictians and developers have filled up their pockets with our money.

They've heard about the UDP. And obviously they've heard about the crime since the UDP have been 'running' our country.

Concentrate on the airport and stay over tourism. Get more flights coming in and the hotels and restaurants filled and the taxi drivers will be happy also. Its common sense the stay over tourist stay away from downtown because of the crowds and also the beaches.
