Car flips on Marina Drive

| 02/12/2011

IMG00138-20111201-1249.jpg(CNS): Police and emergency services rushed to a car smash yesterday afternoon to find that a vehicle had managed to completely flip over on to its roof following a collision on Marina Drive in George Town yesterday. It was unclear if anyone was injured in the car-flip and police were investigating the circumstances as to how the in accident occurred. The crash came less than one week into the RCIPS Christmas crack down on unsafe driving and a campaign to hammer home the message about the poor standards on local roads. This freaky looking crash comes only days after a fatal collision on Esterley Tibbetts Highway which claimed the life of the sixth person killed on the roads in Cayman this year.

In the old days when we had natural predators these people would have been taken care of.  Need to import a few lions to keep people on there toes.

Idiot drivers!  This Island is satuated with them.  Wouldn't be so bad it they only hurt themselves but alas no!   One dangerous stretch is from the Spotts Dock area to Hurleys roundabout.  I'm amazed we haven't had a car pileup there yet.

One morning @ 6:50am I'm in the right lane and a school bus is in the left lane headed towards Ocean Club.  A truck flies up behind me and the driver starts honking his horn – I'm already going the max at 40 mph but because he could not pass he's honking me to speed up so he can overtake SMH!!

It is imperative that the police be stationed at various areas along Shamrock road from 6:45AM  – 9:00AM Mon thru Fri without fail.  And please do it soon because at the rate these idiots are driving some innocent person is bound to get killed during morning rush – it's just a matter of time!

On Wednesday evening around 5.00pm I was going south on the Esterley Tibbetts bypass when a car in front of me signalled and prepared to make an illegal right turn into the Lakeside apartments: and an idiot driving towards the north stopped and let him through! They are out there: be afraid, be very afraid.

The driving on the island is out of hand and the only way to cut this out is for the police to start doing the job at hand and hitting the drivers pockets and this would also raise funds for gov.

In the spirit of constructive comment, and hoping that some of our Traffic Police will read this and pass it on, I was entering the main Savannah road today, Friday, at exactly 9.45 am, and just as the traffic cleared enough for me to cross the road and head east, one of the new Dodge  cop cars came whooshing by, heading west at 60 mph or more, without sirens and just lights flashing. The visibility at some entrances onto this road is very poor, hence the 30 mph limit.

Had I not reacted instantly, I would not be here typing this letter, nor would my wife. I would suggest to the Police that if they are driving at excessive speed, they must  invariably use their sirens. To the officer concerned, I say you are very lucky that it was I who was  driving, and not someone dstracted by his Blackberry or chattering children. Remember, Sir, sound travels at 620 mph and travels round corners, flashing lights don't.

Happened to me right in the middle of George Town one evening. The cruiser came straight out from Fort Street alongside the library, flat out, no lights, no siren and nearly hit me head on.

Guess the 'red mist' took over when the call came in?

So what about the grey car that has been lying upside down on its roof in the same area, without any plates the last 2 days since Wed night/Thurs early morning?  Was this from yet another accident or one that has already been reported?

It is funny and ironic the new foreigners are to be tested for driving when the maniacs driving here are around us daily. The hot spots are well known yet remain unpatrolled for the most part, why is that?

Why are there not regular drunk driving check points set up during the entire year instead of only over New Year's?

Marina Drive is a race track and has been for years – and yes why hasnt Julie fixed the problem – she cant say she doesnt know or hear whats going on. For years we have asked for and said that there should be speed bumps on this strip but nothing has been done and that was as far back and before the fatal accident of Dirty Harry (RIP my boy).

WB1 bus was trying to kill people this morning, and still the idiots jumping cars at Redbay Primary, yes you Idiot in the Blue Hummer Pickup. Oh and why once you jump a couple of cars, do you then proceed to let people out all along Crew Rd? Oh thats right, cos your an idiot.

I hope no innocent people were hurt. Most likely a result of excess speed and crap driving. Marina Drive and Prospect Drive have become drag strips, with the constant squeal and drone of half-wits demonstrating that they are selfish AND stupid at the same time. Don’t know why Juliana hasn’t complained yet. Probably she can’t hear from behind those ugly boarded-up windows. The roads are in serious need of traffic calming measures such as chicanes and pinch points to 1 lane, NOT speed bumps. A police speed trap this weekend would raise more than enough for a good Traffic Dept. Xmas party.

Julianna is too busy forbidding anyone to wear red or for there to be any red lights on the community Christmas tree in the Brac. This clearly shows where her priorities lie.
