| 16/12/2011

(CNS): Police say a man is recovering in the Cayman Islands Hospital after being struck by a car in the East End last night. Shortly before midnight on Thursday the man apparently ran into the roadway close to Morritt’s Tortuga Resort and was struck by an oncoming Honda car. The driver of the car was not injured but the pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is still in hospital where is remains under observation. Enquiries into the collision are ongoing, police say.

Without commenting on this particular incident, I passed  runners on the Linford Pearson Bypass last week at night, wearing black, with no lights or reflectors.

When will pedestrians learn that as a driver at night, with headlights on full beam blinding you, anything  on the roadside is virtually invisible? Parents, tell your children!  Shoe and ankle reflectors are the best, as dipped headlights pick these up first.

So drivers, dip your lights, it's courteous, it's the law and if you don't, it can be very dangerous.

      Good points.

Also, pedestrians should walk facing the traffic when there is no sidewalk.

That's too bad and I hope he recovers.  CNS any news on why the bypass was closed this morning? Or why West Bay road also seemed to be closed at the same time?  Any update on the traffic conditions, since the entire country seems to have been in gridlock since 8am this morning?  Obviously there's nothing on Cayman Not News but I thought there'd at least be a report on CNS
