Missing man’s phone found
(CNS): The phone that Nathan Clarke had with him the evening he disappeared has been recovered from the ocean, a police spokesperson confirmed this morning (Thursday 1 March). Officers searching for the 31-year-old missing teachers' aide recovered a cell phone on Wednesday afternoon in the sea off public beach about 50 metres offshore and in around 10 feet of water. Police say that after examination they can confirm that the phone was Nathan's and that his fiancée and family have been made aware of the development. Clarke was last seen near Calico Jack's on Saturday evening, and since he was reported missing to the police on Sunday teams of volunteers and officers have been searching for the British native. Lisa Beck, Clarke’s girlfriend, last saw him by the water's edge at around 8:30pm but after she looked away for a matter of minutes she had lost sight of her him.
On Wednesday morning at an organised press briefing Lisa, flanked by her parents, who had flown into Cayman from London to support her during what is a very difficult time, said that she wanted to thank the many volunteers that had been helping with the search.
“Since Nathan went missing I have been so busy looking for him I have not had chance to say thanks to all our friends,” she said, adding that she was grateful to them for staying strong and positive and searching non-stop, as well as coming up with ideas as to where to look. Through tears, she expressed her gratitude to all those who don't even know Nathan that have helped.
DS Bodden urged people not to speculate about what had happened to Nathan and said investigators were remaining hopeful because “miracles can happen”. He said that while they were keeping an open mind, there was no evidence at all to suggest that Nathan's disappearance was linked in any way to any other missing person investigation.
The teachers' aide is the third person to go missing in just over twelve months. Anna Evans disappeared from the George Town landfill in January last year, while Kerry Ann Baker disappeared from her own Bodden Town apartment in July.
Bodden asked anyone who had taken pictures on Saturday evening at Calico's that may have caught the missing man in a snap or on video footage to forward the pictures to a special information email line that has been set up nathanclarkeinfo@yahoo.com.

Ok, this is totalling confusing. In on of the previous articles it said that a ping from his cell phone was located on MONDAY morning 1:00 a.m. or so. Now in it article in the Compass it says that the police disputes ever having made such anouncement and the last ping was received at 8:something p.m. Saturday eve.
Who is giving incorrect info? The police or the press?
Per the Compass article the Editor's note states that the last signal received from his phone was at 8:09pm on Saturday night, and not on Monday as previously disclosed.

Hoping for his safe return, my thoughts are with his friends and family.
This is so sad. I was so hoping for him to be found. I do not know this young man and I am not even a resident here, but after having participated in the search, I feel a certain connection to him. I will leave the island with a heavy heart thinking about him and his family and friends. He will remains in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope his phone can be cleaned up and maybe the phone numbers,texts pulled that he maybe called and received in that time frame also. A lead is a lead!
Wow 4days to find his phone in 10 feet of water in clear blue water with a sandy bottom. A snorkeler could have found this you would think on the first day of a proper and organized search by the authorities. I am really disgusted now.
Why are not out looking?
Do you have any idea of how large the sea is and how difficult it is to search every inch of the bottom of it??
to the disgusted writer – I think you under estimate the efforts that people have been putting forth. There is a lot of land and sea to cover with limited resources. Although it may be easy to find a phone in 10 feet of water, objects move with the tide, and seven mile beach has quite a shallow ocean floor for a large expanse, so it is not unreasonable for a phone to be found only after a few days. It would be more productive for those wallowing in disgust at the speed of this recovery operation to offer their assistance, as it may yield better results.
Yeah… the Caribbean sea is pretty small… IDIOT! Do you not think that the combined efforts by the police and volunteers has been worthwhile? Stop criticizing from afar and perhaps go and help look for the man!
He went missing Saturday night. Cell phone signal pickup Monday morning. Cell phone found in water on Wednesday ???????? Seems to be a lot of questions here..
Does anyone know was his cell phone waterproof? If it wasn't is there anyway it could have kept giving a signal until Monday am it had been in the water? XXXX
I hope the family keeps hope, people can be found…I had a close friend go missing here and he turned up after several days. We actually didn't know he was missing, we just assumed he wasn't answering his calls (he was into trouble at the time) – when actually he had been taken. I myself was also lost as a child. There is always hope and miracles can happen.
It's amazing how many persons are suddenly believing themselves to be police investigators. I'm sure that the local authorities are already doing all the things that are being suggested here and I'm also sure that they are not reading the posts by CNS readers to tell them what they should or should not be doing. I don't expect that they will be sharing all the details of the investigation either. Did they check security cameras, did they check buildings, when was the cell phone last used, etc… etc…? Come on people. Let the police do their job. XXXX
Writing from the UK hoping that Nathan is found safe and well soon and praying for his safe return! It must be so worrying for Nathan's family and friends in Cayman as well as the school children and staff of the Cayman Prep! Thinking of you all out there and hoping for some very good news soon!
Pardon my technical ignorance but how can it be that his cell phone signal was picked up unitl early Mon. morning when it was found yesterday at the bottom of the ocean? Is it possible that could occur or is it possible that was a mistake and not his cell phone signal??? Either way I am praying he is found and praying for comfort for his finace and family and friends during this most difficult time. May God bless you all.
I was at Calico Jacks on Saturday night and noticed some people taking pictures. Perhaps the police can appeal to those individuals, maybe the photos they took can reveal some clues.

We can only hope and pray that in finding Nathan's phone this will lead us to finding him. Amazing credit is due to all the divers and snorkellers scouring the ocean tirelessly for clues, plus all the Cayman islanders for their help and support in searching and raising funds.
Just Pray that evevrything is ok and that he gets found safely.
Let him go back to his loving family and live with them just like we do.
I really do hope they find him.

Can we please have 1(one) recent photo! Every photo is defferent how do people know what this man really looks like. One poster said recently that he is clean shaven and well groomed now another poster says he has long hair and stubble…. what does this man actually look like?

Well if you actually bothered to read the article, the photo was taken on the 24th February. As it looks like it was on a boat or on the beach I would assume that it was on the weekend, therefore he probably hadn’t shaved.so you can probably assume that he looked a lot like the photo attached to this article.
His clean cut school photo is the closest likeness. His bright blue eyes and beautiful face is distinctive and exceptional.
I recognise him best from the posed shot with the blue background that has been posted in many places, BUT the picture in this story was taken the day before his disappearance, albeit the sunglasses cover a large part of his face.
All the pictures are of Nathan. Since he has been missing his beard and hair will have grown out and he would not be looking like the clean cut clean shaven person. His family are releasing all the pictures they have of him so hopefully someone will see him and report it.
I meet Nathan on the U.C.C.I campus where we share classes together.Nathan is one of a kind, a special individual that you just get the feeling is loved by all. Im praying your found my friend, all your class mates and teachers are.

I think we should be asking everyone to check their outbuildings and immediate vicinity. This is something we can all do.
What a horrible time this must be for his loved ones, I can't begin to imagine what they are going through. I'm glad to see they have a recent photo up now.
If anyone does know anything about his whereabouts they need to have a think about what they are doing to his family and friends.

This is so strange. How can an adult go missing so quick? XXXX I do not know if there were a lot of people around at that time, but someone must have seen something.
I was searching yesterday and talked with some police officers and they are completely unable to understand how this could happen in a matter of minutes. I sure hope that this young man is ok and will be found soon.
