Travellers face possible delays at Cayman airport

| 19/03/2012

(CNS): Modifications to security at Owen Roberts International Airport may result in delays over the next few weeks, officials have stated. The Department of Immigration said the public may experience some minor delays in the arrival hall of the airport in Grand Cayman as a result of a reduction in space in the immigration arrival hall. In an effort to alleviate the congestion, the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is assisting immigration officials during peak periods to ensure the smooth processing of arriving passengers.

“Every effort is being made to minimize disruption to our services inclusive of minimizing inconvenience to arriving passengers,” Acting Chief Immigration Officer Bruce Smith said. “We understand the need for the CIAA to make these modifications to the terminal layout in the interest of passenger safety and security. We seek the public’s understanding as the Cayman Islands moves to enhance its service and strives to provide a welcoming atmosphere to returning residents and visitors,” he added as he offered apologies for the inconvenience.

Officials said that future updates will be disseminated onthe progress of the renovations.

It is obvious that none of you that are putting this down have travelled recently on a saturday or sunday afternoon to see the obvious, dire and immediate need more space all around but especially in the departure lounge. The whole airport needs more space but until this happens the space is needed in the departure lounge to accomodate appox 3500 ppl a day on the weekend. I work at the airport and know exactly what im talking about. And unless you do i suggest that you keep quiet!

So they took some of the arrivals area and added it to the departures area and put in about a hundred lightweight plastic chairs in the added departure area that nobody is sitting in. If there is a plan there, it is not very obvious what it is.

What service? Cayman is the only place where its returning citizens are in the longest line ever and visiting people can slip through quickly!

Get a grip, everyone thinks they are in the slow line.

What are you taliking about. returning citizens can use any line they choose so if the ‘visitro’ line is slipping through and the Resident Line is long then just move over. The only possible justification for your comment if you feel that you should not have to ‘mix’ with Non Residents as you re-enter your country. If that is your view then shame on you.Cayman does not need or warrant that image.
