Public sector review focus of weekly meeting

| 16/04/2012

The public lobby (228x300).jpg(CNS): The progress on the overall review of how Cayman’s public services are managed and operated formed the key part of the latest civil service bosses meeting. According to the minutes released by the deputy governor’s office the 2 April meeting revealed that terms of reference and the resources needed to collect data for a review of the whole of government synergies had been agreed. The record of the meeting also pointed to more issues coming out of the review of government’s human resource policies.

The deadline for civil servants to comment on the human resource policies in government was extended to last Friday and feedback was provided to the deputy governor at the chief officers meeting on the Anti-Sexual Harassment policy and the Attendance Policy.

“Specifically, the need to consider greater flexibility in the attendance policy to provide services to the public over the lunch hour and for the collection of children from schools was raised,” the minutes reveal.

The minutes show that progress is being made on the whole public sector review and the teams involved have consolidated recommendations from several reports into one in order to eliminate duplication. A review of the current status of the implementation of the approved recommendations has also been undertaken.

They always put the exact time that the meeting finished but never when it started.  It would be interesting to know how long they discussed these matters for.

The meeting will be far more productive if they are called "retreats" and are held in Cuba…Just ask McKeeva, he knows about this foreign meeting stuff.

Just curious if anyone in Government is bothering to ask those of us in the private sector (who happen to be stakeholders in government acitivity as well) as to how we feel performance is doing and whether we have input as to how things might be better addressed?  I do appreciate they have at least raised the issue of providing public service during "lunch hours" as many of us in the private sector cannot do anything relating to government except for on our lunch hours.  But I can't help but stop and wonder if some input from the private sector might be of benefit.

The earlier reviews did involve private sector members, if you recall. Recall anything useful coming out of them?

Feeble stuff. Are our top civil servants discussing POLICY rather than operational stuff, which their predecessors loved to deal with and earn huge money for doing so. EG, the former PS going into the dykes in his cowboy boots and telling his FAR better qualified HOD what he should be doing to control mosquitoes. Hopefully this utter nonsense will have ended with his retirement. Franz needs to make his Chief Officers seem to be thinking ahead/policy formation rather than what has gone on up to now when certain Chief Officers like the Cowboy thought they ran Cayman.
