DUI arrest after early morning road crash
(CNS): Police say a woman is being treated in hospital for a serious arm injury following a single vehicle road crash in the vicinity of Moon Bay Condos early this morning, Thursday 31 May. At about 3:50am a Ford Explorer, which was being driven towards Bodden Town, crashed off the road into bushes close to Moon Bay Condos. Emergency services attended the scene and both the male driver and female passenger were conveyed to the Cayman Islands Hospital, George Town, for treatment. The driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI, was released from hospital following treatment to minor injuries.
Police say enquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

One night between midnnight and 5am every car on this road should be stop and the driver breathalysed. The attitude to drink driving in Cayman is a national disgrace. Anyone involved in an accident, however minor, and found to be under the influence should be named, shamed and sent to jail for a few months.
Considering that alcohol is our No.3 money maker behind the financial services and toruism industry is it any wonder that drinking / drink driving also ranks as our national activity?
Thereshould be road blocks every night after 11pm going into each district. If people know there is definately going to be road blocks do you think they are going to risk it?
The fact that the police only enforce such a policy once a year (December) is it any wonder that people do it every single night for the rest of the year?
What about these special constables, they are supposed to do 15hrs minimum a month, put them in charge of road blocks and leave the full timers to get on with whatever it is that they do.
The island and police would be astounded and scared at the numbers of people nailed for DUI if it was a continuous operation and the attitude would change towards driving under the influence. FACT.
Police could fill school buses with DUI suspects in the early weekend hours – even some of the taxi drivers are drunk!
These bars and nightclubs need to be an updated and warned on the LL laws and there (bartenders & such) powers to deny any further sale of alcohol to intoxicated patrons.

For every accidental DUI arrest there are thousands that go unanswered. The crashes (some fatal), shootings and stabbings are typically in the hour or two after last call. RCIPS should be visible in the late night club parking lots and munchie spots if they want to tackle this problem. The clubs should contribute to the financing of this interdiction effort since they are the direct beneficiaries of this social problem.
Remember this driver resorted to the bottle for coping and comfort from all his problems it seems. The bartenders and managers of the night clubs had nothing to do with it. He and no one else made himself intoxicated – it was a sober decision. Hence, he (and he alone) should serve time and/or compensate the injured party for his recklessness.
Libertarian:
as a former bartender and bar owner, I know that I am responsible if I serve a drunk driver and then they get in a fatal accident. Unfortunately, no one seems to know or enforce the liquor laws here. I refused to serve people who were drunk.
I think that the police should be at the night clubs when they are closing and stop them from driving if they are drunk. Yes, stay there with them for a few hours. Preventation is better than dead people. At one time, the police used to take awaythe keys and drive them home. I don't think they need to go that far but at least don't let the drunk drivers leave the night club.
Road blocks are a waste of the time. The police tell their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband and they bbm their friends so everyone knows to avoid the road block.
Alcohol leads to great majority of our social ills. Tax liquor distribution and use those additional funds to combat the issues. Make this place a safer one for residents and visitors. But of course we are ahead of ourselves since this assumes some future capablity of normal accounting!
