Mac not resigning

| 13/12/2012

_DEW7157-web-0_1.jpg(CNS): The Cayman Islands premier says he will not be resigning as he has done nothing wrong. In McKeeva Bush's first statement since his arrest on Tuesday, released by his office after he left for Jamaica Thursday, he made it clear that he was staying in office. “I have done nothing wrong and I shall not be resigning as premier. I also wish to assure one and all that the government continues to operate as normal," he said. Bush is expected to return to Cayman Friday evening when his supporters have asked that the people meet him at the airport to show their backing for his decision. On the advice of his lawyers, Bush said, he would say nothing more on the matter at present but would issue a further statement in due course.

Check back to CNS for more later today.

I must agree… that the statement by the Pre… sorry Mckeeva Bush does seem 5th Gradish. He didn't even have the skill and manners to put a closing such as "Sincerely" McKeeva.

Conveys an arrest-beaten deminished sense of respect from an already lack of respect for the people of the Cayman Islands, the people he is supposed to be serving.

Opps sorry, I keep forgeting. It's the people in Jam he has been serving.

Putting aside the Premier's innocence or guilt I have one simple question which I would really appreciate an answer to. The only condition I would place on the person(s) answering is that the answer should be based on logic and not given on a purely emotional basis.

Question: What gain or purpose would the RCIP have in carrying out a very public arrest, knowing that if the arrest was groundless they would leave themselves open to not only repercussions but ridicule?

    • HAHAHA says:

THe same gain and game played with Operation Tempura and Celtic, destabilization of teh Cayman Islands,Londons biggest Competitor for Finacial Service.

      • Anonymous says:

London's biggest competitor for financial service…….since when?? the highest we ever were (and no longer and it had nothing to do with any investigations) was 5th. largest.

Lol … never a dull moment when it comes to "Premmie Mac".

    ;o)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again … "Put up or shut up, RCIPS."

(Oh yeah, thanks for the global embarrassment the other day, by the way. I had friends contacting me from afar as London, LA, New Dehli and Abuja with their concerns over what they saw and read in the international news.)

I acknowledge that this may be a controversial stance, however, in light of recent history and the track record of over-hyped and fruitless (not to mention ridiculously expensive for the people of Cayman) "investigations" of yesteryear (e.g. Operation Tempura), I cannot fault the Premier for his position.

It is sad that things have come to this level of mistrust, however, the blame for that falls outside the shores of the Cayman Islands.

** The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service does NOT belong to the Cayman Islands, and its owner has outrightly declared that its priority is that of (its) self-preservation.

When all is said and considered, one (Caymanian) would have to be a right fool to support every decision and action by way of that entity or even react in an otherwise respectful or diplomatic manner.

Unfortunately, the RCIPS has lost its right to that respect from this community at times like these.

*** Lastly, in light of the above, I suspect the "significant" seizure (and search) of government computer equipment, files, etc. played a big role in the decision to arrest the Premier of the Cayman Islands. After all, we all know about the recent arrival of "all the King's men" in Cayman.

Been there, seen it before – same old smoke and mirrors crap.

    (Commence thumbs downs in 3 … 2 … 1)

Of course he doesn’t. Who really expected him to? This man has no honor for the Cayman Islands, Nore do his other cronies in government.
We Caymanians will not let this go believe me. I was a udp party member up untill recently.
I do understand the police bailing him for till February. They probably have more investigations to do. Well I hope so there are several more people I expect to be questioned and this takes time.
Let’s look at the arrest history of UDP. Assualt, DUI and now theft and corruption. WOW.
In the world press it appeared that Cayman looked really positive on dealing with coruption and can put money on it the world also expected the premier to resign as would happen anywhere else. Shoot, politicians even resign when they get caught for cheating on the wife, and if I recall one even resigned for getting a DUI.
Now I believe in my mind the UDP are no longer looking out for us Caymanians or even the Cayman Islands. I can’t believe mac has that much sh.. on the rest of the mlas they don’t have the b..ls to vote him out.
I know there cronies read this, we pass this on to the party the bigboy is going down with his party in the next election.

Why the heck do they believe that it is ours or any other country's problem if their crooked citizens decide that they want to evade taxes and bring their money to hide it away here or any where else? They are the ones who are always touting "the land of the free", well their free folk are allowed to bring their money here and our country is likewise free to allow them to deposit it in our banks. The problem is their's NOT ours and I'm sick of their whining about this country. Deal with your citizens and don't try to attack the Cayman Islands.

This is such a farce..First they tell him he is under investigation, wait for months before arresting him, immediately bail him and give him another three months before they may or may not  charge him…

Something stinks either they are trying to intimidate him enough to step down or they simply don't know what the heck they are doing ..Only in Cayman could someone's reputation be dragged through the mud like this without any formal charges against him.

Why the heck did they arrest him if they didn't have anything to charge him with and now have to wait for three months to find something. My guess is they arrested him to see if they could find something incriminating by searching his house and office. They better hope it was there.

If Bush can find any lawyer worth his salt these charges should be thrown out mainly because so far everything has been based on pure speculation and as the police commissioner calls it rumor mongering..

    • Anonymous says:

  40. Worried says:

I am not surprised by Mr Bush's arrogance and complete disregard of the reputation of this country.  It's a sad time for Cayman.

Mr Bush needs to realise that even if he believes he has done nothing wrong, either he is mistaken or because of his style of leadership, the way in which he conducts his business as premier eludes to the perception that he is doing something wrong and therefore is corrupt.  If there is a perception of corruption, then Mr Bush, even if innocent of any charges, is not fulfilling his role as he should and should be stepping down while admitting that he has failed his people on some level.

All the legalities aside, Mr Bush's moral standpoint needs to be brought into question.  I would like Mr Bush to tell us his reasons for staying in office and how it benefits the country by having the world know that our Premier was arrested in connection to possible corruption.  He may be innocent until proven guilty but a bad leader he is even if not brought to the courts.

Why is Mr Bush leaving o go to Jamaica to be bestowed a Doctorate, which especially in the light of the recent investigation may suggest that he is not worthy of.  This trip can only be of benefit to Mr Bush personally and really is not of benefit to Cayman.  As always McKeeva puts himself and his own interest before that of this country, which is in a state of turmoil right now.

I can only sigh and hope for a better future.

One last thing, it is poosible that the UDP has not asked Mr Bush to step down because that would make Ju Ju the alternative, could that be a scarier prospect, just asking?

Wow, so he believes that flying to Jamaica on a personal  trip is more important than the Cayman people deserving a full explanation from him, this just go's to show his true colours.

Where is the UDP party on this, not a peep out of them when our country is being humiliated world wide, this has not a thing to do with " i have done nothing wrong" the leader of our country has been arrested for corruption !!!, why can they not get it though their heads that he has to step down whilst the investigation continues, if he is cleared then so be it, but to have a leader of the 5th largest banking center in the world holding office whilst under investigation for corruption sends  so many bad signals its not even funny.

  46. LittleGrasshopper says:

This is absurd.  Whenever any civil servant is arrested for any serious offence pertaining to their job, they are suspended immediately.  This is to ensure a number of things, such as preventing them from destroying evidence, bringing undue influence to bear on other parties that may have be potential witnesses and to preserve the integrity of the office.  HOW CAN HE BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN OFFICE????

It is absolutely ludicrous and if he doesn't step down, then the house should be disolved and new elections held.

  54. Anonymous says:

Unbelievable!!!  Is it normal practice for an individual that is "out of Police custody on BAIL" to be allowed to travel overseas, even if it is only an hour long flight to Jamaica??  Earlier this week I was feeling confident that the RCIPS was doing a good job by letting the WORLD know that everyone in the Cayman Islands has to be held accountable for their actions, no matter what position they may hold – even the office of the PREMIER.  Apparently he is still receiving the benefit of his position when being allowed to travel while "out on bail".  Do you think our international investors will have any confidence in our system after they read about this???  Me thinks NOT!
