Bus goes up in smoke in George Town
(CNS): Updated — Commuters to George Town were faced with clouds of black smoke this morning billowing from a local bus, but it is not clear what caused the vehicle to be engulfed as there did not appear to be any fire, according to witnesses. A CNS reader took a photo of the scene and police who were called to the location have now confirmed that there was no evidence of a fire or explosion relating to the vehicle.There were no passengers on the bus at the time and an RCIPS spokesperson said despite the billowing black clouds the driver who was alone on the bus reported an overheated radiator as the cause of the smoke and no injuries.

I prefer a vehilce testing system which involves more evangelical attempts to convince me that Jesus is my saviour than any consideration of mechanical issues. Certainly on my last couple of licensing trips the officials took this novel approach.
Looks like the same as my exhaust when i boot it! Garage says its due to the very poor quality fuel being imported at the moment knackering everyone’s engine. False? Who knows, doubt anyone checks. On that bus, can’t say i’ve seen a radiator do that, but then, nothing surprises me with the obvious lack of maintenance on many buses and some taxis. I am especially amused at the way one of the turtle farm coaches crabs up the road at quite an impressive angle and always leaning to one side, again at quite an impressive angle. Hilarious to follow it. Has it been finally taken off road as I haven’t seen it for a while to laugh at it?
Most likely something to do with it parking with its arse end sticking out in the traffic lane all the time.
You wonder what this is? Just drive behind 70%of the taxi buses and you’ll see smoke, these guys don’t maintain their vehicles properly especially the bigger busses. Look at the massive ones that the shocks have gone and lean to the left… I wonder whom owns these?

The police are always slow to supply "details", and never supply very many. Like the missing police vehicle!

Amazing…so many thumbs down on a post with a good point..Caymans visitors care about pollution, they live with recylcing, stringent emissions checks and the thumb downers dont give a damn, as long as they can carry on polluting and ruining (in the medium to long term) our tourist industry. When these tourists go home, they tell people (other potential tourists) about their impressions..right now they tell "Georgetown is a bit dirty and smells sometimes, no direct docking facility for Cruise ships, not much to do there, expensive,and by the way, the fumes from exhausts will kill you if you get behind or on one of theirbuses, taxis or trucks..if you want to experience that, go suck on your own exhaust in your garage, it will save you a few thousand bucks and kill you more slowly."
Way to go Cayman, no long term thinking, just the usual "the law does not apply to me" thinking. A few hefty fines if the police could be bothered to get involved and some impounding of unfit vehicles ought to change that attitude..but it will not happen, because the people in charge also think the law does not apply to them.
There is an active amateur yard-side smelter in the residential slums of Dog City that regularly burns old rubber tires to melt contraband "copper". Pure copper melts at over 1083' Celsius, so you can imagine the type of dangerous inferno required to achieve results. Police and Fire dept seem to ignore it. Visibility dropped as the toxic soup of airborne pollutants drifted in several noxious metallic soot clouds – engulfing not only this entire residential neighbourhood, but also the assembled visiting diners on GT's waterfront on Sunday night. Talk about bad impressions. We went from idyllic Caribbean seaside dining to "slumdog millionaire" in seconds. Honestly, I don't understand how business owners and staff would not intervene – if not for themselves and customers, then for the powerless residents of that neighbourhood. This is Caymankind.
