| 05/02/2013

water leak.jpg(CNS): Motorists in Bodden Town are being diverted as a result of a burst waterpipe in the district. The Cayman Water Authority said it has a broken water main on Bodden Town Road near to the local post office. Officials said that customers located on Bodden Town Road, from the junction of Manse Road to the junction of Gun Square Road will experience an interruption in service while repairs are carried out. The authority estimated that people could be without water as repairs are underway for around four hours. Meanwhile, motorists are asked to drive with caution and obey all traffic signs and the authority apologized for the inconvenience caused.

It is now 1:30. There is a hole in the road and one man is standing beside it. The rest are presumably at lunch. We still have no water. Not good enough Water Authority.

Easy for you to say as you soak up your A.C. How long do you think they should work out in that hot sun with out a break?

Now watch and see if the Water Auth charges its customers for this break in their line. They will most likely not accept the loss themselves , but will rather try to pass the cost onto the nearest residents to the break in the line.

That's how public utilities work. All such costsgo into the rate base.

The rate base or base rate is not what I meant. I mean the WAC will try to say that the nearest residents to the break will most likely see an increase in the 'usage' of water on their next WAC bill, when all the while it was not an increase in the resident's usage, but rather the break in the faulty line that caused the excess flow or distribution by WAC.

They (WAC) will claim that they are just reading the meters but no one will know when they came or see anyone come out to read the meters.

The residents should pay close, close attention to their meter usage in the next few days/weeks.
