Fourth C4C candidate declares for the capital
(CNS): The fourth candidate who is expected to be endorsed by the advocacy group, the Coalition for Cayman (C4C), has revealed her intention to run for office. The first non-incumbent woman outside of the PPM to declare her intention to run, Jacqueline Haynes is standing for one of the six seats in George Town as an independent but with support from C4C, of which she was one of the original founding members. Haynes, who pointed to law and order as one of her campaign issues, said “piecemeal, quick fixes do not work”, adding she was determined to see Cayman with a “balanced budget, sustainable answers to the issue of healthcare and an education system that prepares our youth for success.”
A local attorney and former civil servant, Jacqueline "Jackee" Haynes said she was disheartened by Cayman’s failing economy and deteriorating social conditions.
“Having witnessed the consistent mismanagement of our country’s fiscal affairs, I feel compelled to help shape a better future for these islands,” she said. “I was fortunate enough to be raised in a united Cayman. There was hope, prosperity and opportunity for all but these have steadily been stripped from us and it is time we work together to restore them.”
Haynes joined Ogier in 2008 and following her articles of clerkship, was admitted to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2011. Prior to entering the legal sector, Haynes spent three years as an investment and securities analyst with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and eleven years as an officer with the Cayman Islands Customs Department. Whilst with Customs she received extensive specialist training in intelligence analysis and as a result was seconded to the Caribbean’s regional Joint Intelligence Office in Puerto Rico in 2001.
There, she worked as a technical implementation officer and travelled throughout the region training officers of the various Customs administrations. It was her experience with the Joint Intelligence Office that highlighted one of the important aspects of her campaign.
“Long term crime prevention policies, and proactive and intelligence-led policing, are vital to addressing patterns of criminality. This is one of the areas I would like to see Cayman improve,” Haynes stated in a release declaring her intentions to run for office.
Haynes said she, like many other Caymanians, have sat on the side lines watching the country’s demise, hoping that change would come but now, crippled by debt, the economy was in flux with crime and unemployment rising as people suffer with no viable solutions in sight.
“I see now that hope alone just isn’t enough,” she said as she announced her candidacy. Haynes said she was “stepping forth” because she believes Cayman deserves better leadership. “I am committed to being the type of leader that leads with integrity, untainted loyalty, passion and compassion – simply because that’s what these islands deserve.”
Acknowledging that Cayman’s problems are many, she said they could be remedied if approached thoughtfully and strategically. “Our policies must take into account current context but also long term considerations. The piecemeal, quick fixes do not work,” she added.

An applaud goes out to Jacqueline Haynes, being the proud and upstanding Caymanian that she is wanting to see a change for the better in her country. As a prime example of innovation she is willing to take the risks and make the decisions to put this nation forward; and presenting a more desired and commendable environment for tomorrows youths. People always request a change, but never make a step towards it. This is the chance to do so i will be taking a step forward with Jacquelines Haynes and I really do hope others will be doing the same in rebuilding and taking back our country.
Strong, intelligent women played a significant part in the early development of this country and throughout its entire history. We do indeed look with pride at Ms Haynes, for she bespeaks the hope and aspirations of generations of the people of these islands.
It is the desire of many of us to see our women take on the mantle of leadership in our country’s affairs as indeed this will provide a much needed balance to the thought processes of decision making. Let us not fail her, let us believe in her, let us give her the opportunity to rise above the political mud and lead this country to a level of sustained growth, opportunity for all and a society that embraces respect for the rule of Law as well as respect for one another no matter where you come from.

One only has to look at the caliber of George Town candidates coming out to know that George Town is going to see a serious upset on May 22nd (not that I'm gonna be upset about it). I truly respect my George Town constituents because we memory long like time and you know…. time longer than rope.
So we won't forget the Poor People's Mistake (PPM) which still hasn't developed a clue under the not so keen leadership of the Honorable 'AllDone'. I am however happy to see that Kurt has made it back from his 3 year staycation safely and just in time for election (go figure). Marco you would be a hopeful if it weren't for the association (but there's still time my friend).
I hasten to mention GT's Useless Dictator's Pawns (UDP)- but despite all of the mistrust surrounding the UDP, they are still more popular than AllDone and his bunch. One of them might just make it in (my prayers notwithstanding).
Its moments like this that I wish gambling were legal because I know I'd be sitting pretty after election day when the independents clean housein GT. All I can say is I hope the next few weeks see's some potentials come forth from West Bay and Bodden Town so we can do a full spring cleaning in the LA. It needs some serious sanitation ….

C4c has done an excellent job of recruiting viable candidates with leadership skills. Keep them rolling c4c, as my confidence level in your group continues to grow. Congrats Jackee.
You know it is amazing how bad mind always tends to pop up when positivity is being touted. If working hard to achieve and rise above our beginnings is the bottom of the barrel them I guess we should all strive for this. My sister has always been a strong, level headed, unbiased and open hearted individual. She has never been afraid to speak what is right and never one to tow the popular line. Having had to raise not only her daughter but asist our mother with raising her younger siblings, my sister has never let the struggles of life defeat her. My mother was a cliche of these islands, the matriarch of the entire family, having held at some points 3 jobs to raise not only her children but also our cousins, we saw first hand the benefits of a strong family support system. And this has been instilled in us all, but mostly my sister Being the eldest girl. GT is and never will be a strong UDP supporter, and the PPM is a party that we are still waiting to see it's worth. Independent is the way to go and I see no one more suitable than my sister and not because she is family, being family only gives me a better incite into why she would be a suitable representative for our district, who is not looking for a pay increase (she's already a lawyer), but a better Cayman for the next generation of not just our family but yours too. Under both parties, we have seen how our children are just talking points while immigration policy is manipulated to the disadvantage of Caymanians, it's always some one else to blame for the woes we face. When employees start to feel that they don't have to answer to their employers or start to operate as they see fit ignoring the delegations given, its time to fire them and hire new persons to fill the roles available. Talk to her before passing uninformed judgement on her motives.

I congratulate Jacqueline! She apparently came from humble beginnings and really made something of her life. She also has a very smart, lovely, vibrant daughter who will also be a productive adult and positive contributor to society. I believe she has honorable intentions in moving the country forward. Lord knows it can't get any worse than what we currently have. I hope she gets a seat and does a great job. This is coming from a very "unlikely" supporter of hers.

I have been unable to honestly say I am a proud Caymanian for a long time, given our country's state of affairs, however I am EXTREMELY proud and honoured seeing all these young Caymanians coming forward, willing to give up an lucrative careers all for the sake of our country.

I have known this young lady for many years (from she first joined Customs in the 90's). She has worked very hard to get where she is. She is a good mother (an has a bright well rounded daughter as proof). She is a good daughter and a good friend. I have heard all the things that have been said about the people behind the Coalition for Cayman and although I don't know them -I know Jackee. And I know that she is not for sale. I am happy to see that she has come forward. God bless you Jackee. You are a shining example of a good Caymanian.

I will definately vote for that one. If I was a lawyer with the amount of work out there I would stick with that job. Good lawyers usually become partners and we all know what their earnings are. I say reduce the salary and you will see how many people are going to run. Let me tell you that Mike is a gentleman. Also when Dr Frank was in he looked after the poor people. Two of my votes are for both of them. For sure when you phone either of them they answers or will get back to you. Thats more than you can say about most Politicians.
This has been suggested several time son CNS but no-one seems to have run with it. A sensible cap on MLA income – say to CI$75,00 as a referendum on election day would be wonderful plan because candidates would almost have to express their support for it.
I am so proud of you Jackee for taking this huge step. People that know you understand the sacrifice and the reasons why you are doing this putting your legal career on pause and we all have even more respect for you. Cayman needs people like you to step forward because what we have now in there has failed us all udp and ppm alike.
You have made your family proud and are a shining example of what hard work, sacrifice and dedication is all about. You will be an outstanding MLA and can survive in any setting rich or poor because you are 100% genuine, empathize with people and shine like a diamond! I am usually amused and somewhat annoyed by these types of comments as they never come with any form or substantiation. Ignorance is truly bliss hence why we have been so poorly represented in the past. I for one would like to thank Ms Haynes for coming forward as we need more candidates of her stature. This is not a popularity contest, we should be focusing on what a candidate can do for our country’s future, economy, and overall appearance .
I am a little curious – what exactly is her stature as compared to some of other candidates running for GT? Take some of the younger ones – Winston, Marco, Joey.

I do not know Jackee, but I hope to meet her one day. She seems to be a person that can stand on her two feet, along with having a quality of education, that gives her the understanding of being able to achieve, and deciper the righst from the wrongs that some of our leaders are lacking . She has made that big step in the political arena to face the trials and tribulations of this country. So let us all join hands with her as she prepare and engage in this difficult race.
