Home intruder flees after victim bites back

| 14/02/2013

(CNS): A man was foiled in his attempts to attack or steal from a resident of Raleigh Quay in the early hours of Thursday morning after he was bitten by the woman in the home he had entered. Police said that the female resident of the property in Raleigh Quay awoke at around 3:05am to find a male intruder standing over her bed. The man placed his hand over the woman’s mouth, at which point she bit his hand or finger hard enough to damage her own tooth. The intruder fled from the premises as the victim started to scream. The woman was later treated at George Town Hospital for the tooth she lost in the incident and later released.

Police said they are now looking for a man described as more than 6’2 of medium build with brown or dark skin who is suffering with a hand or finger injury. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 949 4222 or to call Crimstoppers on 800 TIPS.

My God. Waking at 3am with a 6'2" intruder standing over your bed is just about the most horrifying thing I can imagine. I wish the police would give us some more information. For example was the house or a window left unlocked? Had the victim seen anything suspicious beforehand? Did they get DNA and do they have any suspects? Because if the house was locked, and it was a completely random attack and this monster is still on the loose then it could happen to any one of us. If that's the case then it's time to get bars on the windows and get to work on a firearm licence.

Good on the victim for fighting back but she was lucky he ran off rather than getting angry.

I hope they will be visiting the hopitals and clinics and enquiring about anybody coming in with similar hand injuries. Humans bites do have a tendency to turn septic if bad enough so medical treatments would probably be needed.

Just imagine how any of us would feel if we woke up and found a stranger standing over us. I hope this person is found and put away for life. Even that isn't punishment enough. It takes a very brazen person to violate someone this way. This monster will strike again.

And there he was worrying about being bitten by the homeowner's dog.

That robber certainly put his hand in the wrong mouth…

Good for this lady for fighting back – or in this case biting back…

Of course, she should have had a gun to blow his effin head off. He had NO right to be there. Suppose it was your wife or daughter, Mr Baines?

  11. Anynomous says:

She should have bitten the whole hand off, nusiance.

Hopefully the Police will be able to do a DNA profile on the perpetrator, and match it.

I'm sorry your tooth was damaged, but hope it's a wound you wear proudly.   I don't care if you are a native-born Caymanian or not.   You are a hero who fought back and saved the day.

Much respect.   If an avenue presents itself of anonymously assisting with the repair of your tooth, I will contribute.
