West Bay private drive paved in ‘error’

| 18/02/2013

accidental paved driveway.jpg(CNS): The deputy premier said work by the National Roads Authority on private land in West Bay had been done by mistake. Following up on a question submitted to Cabinet by CNS last week regarding reader enquiries about the paving of a private driveway in the district, Rolston Anglin said Thursday that the work was a mistake. After the question was raised phone calls had led to the work being immediately halted and the NRA workers directedto clean up and go the correct location, Anglin said. He did not explain how the error had occurred but offered his thanks to the media for bringing the issue to government’s attention. (Photo by Kerry Horek)

Speaking at Thursday’s press briefing the deputy premier said the householder had also been surprised at the arrival of the NRA and its heavy equipment at his home. However, the minister said the work was stopped as soon as the error was spotted and the driveway cleaned up. The minister did not say where the NRA was meant to be working when work started at the “wrong place” but it is understood that the incorrect location was in the ConchPoint Road area of West Bay.

The premier, whose ministry has responsibility for the NRA and who was at the centre of a road paving controversy on Cayman Brac, which was described as 'unlawful' by the auditor general, was not present at either of the press briefings where the latest issue regarding the NRA paving private driveways was raised.

    I'll believe you, thousands wouldn't.

Please make a mistake and pave Jessica Link and July Street in GT, they really need it.

  3. Anonymous says:

Not sure about what happened here but in regard to all the paving on the Brac, the receiver as well as the giver need to be prosecuted under the Corruption law. That is the problem here. Corruption can only happen if people accept gifts from governments/politicians.

It was my birthday…yesterday.  So I believe them.

This just shows that there is still no process for accountability in these islands: what is the NRA's version of what transpired, and on who's authority, and with what supervision?  These are basic questions one should ask.

  6. Baldric says:

Anyone know if  this mistake was about the last election or the next one?

  7. N Somniac says:

The road to Hell is paved with corrupt intentions.

  8. Anonymous says:

Not all roads in Cayman Brac were paved. There is one road that serves 5 property owners and has been in existense for 15 years, but leads directly to a house owned by a PPM board member that was ignored deliberately by Julie. She knows the road only too well.

  9. Anonymous says:

That was inexcusable when we used to have house numbers and street names in cayman .

  10. Anonymous says:

My wager is that is was a 'mistake' when they got found out.

Very unlikely that a private drive would be paved in error m'lord

Boy them take us for fools or wha?

  11. Anonymous says:

If that was PPM paving private driveways, Mac would be ALL OVER DEM!!! How come he's so silent on Julie's Administration's wrong paving?

The Answer: They are still the best of buddies, and still UDP Supporters.

    • Anonymous says:

Cant believe this. What happen , Mack dont have no stomach or what? In this case I wont be supporting him.

  12. Caymanian kind says:

Nothing changes. Pave my driveway, get my family’s 32votes.
Washer & Dryer or job for son included?

    • Voter in GT says:

(What? Who had the thumbs down?)  Come one….we ALL know the dirt roads only get paved right before an election.  The washer dryer comment is not a myth and last election all decorum was thrown to the wind with $25 bills being handed out in full public view.  You want to stop corruption? Stop accepting the handouts, it is just wrong.

We need less goverment and more accountable administration.

  13. SKEPTICAL says:

Wonder whose pulling JuJu’s strings ? As far as I know, last Tuesday, bush made none of what might have been his expected characteristic vitriolic comments about his UDP buddies who had thrown him under the bus. The “crossing the floor” of the LA by JuJu and her cronies, and her subsequent silence as premier on all matters controversial smacks of a classic Cayman ” smoke and mirrors ” act – perhaps completely orchestrated ? Was this driveway job an unfulfilled promise – whose driveway was it ?

Cayman politicos and CS must be the most mistake prone people on the planet (apart from TCI and now possibly Antigua and Baruda). In evidence, your Honour, I submit:

    1. NRA accidentally paves half someone's driveway.

    2. NRA Accidentally paves half of Brac.

    3. Premier accidentally spent (allegedley) money on credit cards.

    4. Accidentally allowed Gas boy cards.

    5. Accidentally travelled half the planet for no obvious good reason.

    6. Accidentally forgot to let people know where they were going and why.

    7. Accidentally forgot to service the garbage trucks properly.

    8. Accidentally forgot to collect USD16,500,000 from those that owe it.

    9. Forgot to collect USD6,000,000 from Mr Ryan.

    10. Cost Cayman millions in mistaken deals with Cohen and GLF

I could go on, but suffering from writers cramp. As a boy, I was always taught, once is a mistake, twice is foolish, third time is deliberate. Same principle as three strikes and you are out. So that makes CIG and CS? Errr, very mistaken? Worse? Come on Cayman, it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…it is absolute incompetence and corruption.

If Julie wont talk, what does Colford (Chairman of NRA) or Paul (new MD of NRA) have to say?

Or was this delegated to Mark again?

  16. Anonymous says:

When will Rolston, Cline, Mark and Juliana realise they sound foolish and disrespectful of the voting public with their public pronouncements. The vomit they puke out with big words and sentences and (prayer when caught at the court!) sound hollow. Stop stealing and do your job. All 4 of you should come clean with your real reason for continuing with Mac's policies i.e project Dart land . Put your hand on your heart and say the real reason you will not stop the West bay raod. Say it now or Mac will spill the beans under police pressure and all your contracts and ill gotten gains will disappear. Watch out for the flashing lights outside your doorsteps.

Court?! She nah going to court. Heard that was part of her deal for stabbing the last Premier in the back. Not that he didn't deserve it.

Heard the UK told her to play her part in cleaning up the mess, and they would overlook the accidental paving of the Brac.

      • Anonymous says:

So what did the UK have on Rolie, Mark & CG that made dem roll over?  We know that Dwane just followed back -a- Mark.

  17. 4 Cayman says:

I am so sick of the UDP b:$!s@$t who is going to pay for this mistake? If I did this at my employment and it cost my company, they would reprimand me to the point that they would give me my walking papers!!!! Who’s in charge at the NRA? Seems like a lot errors keeping occurring that’s costing me the tax payer!

Since I am paying for this I demand an answer!

    • R.U. Kidden says:

      4 Cayman,

You don't REALLY believe that was a mistake, do you?

      • Anonymous says:

The coruption just goes on and on. What gets me here is that these people must think we Caymanians (born and bred plus paper) are just plain stupid. That is unforgivable.

Strange how mistakes that have cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Brac seem to be spreading to Cayman the minute Ju Ju realises she hasn't completely paved over Mac's humongous ego mania.

  21. Anonymous says:

Things are obviously improving, folks. Now we have sister Ju in Cayman to compete against Mac and Mr. Dart for wotes,

  22. Anonymous says:

Well well, sister Ju's got the Brac 'covered' and looks like she's started her campaign in Cayman…

  23. The Crown says:

Seems as likely as going home to the wrong house.. Happens all the time..

  24. noname says:

Next robbery O Wow!  My error, thanks for pointing that out to me.  What was I thinking? Of course you can't have your money back!

  25. Anonymous says:

You mean it was done illegally and that means some one should be arrested.  And made to pay the cost. Or is that legal here?  I'm confused.

    • Anonymous says:

Do you want to pay up for all those stupid mistakes you have carried out ? stop being an ass…. it was a mistake. And you are so perfect.you would be the first to throw the  stone.

      • Eye on Society says:

Ahh ha… It was YOUR driveway that was being paved, wasn't it? And what's your address? Just so we know.

Stop being an ass. Wise up!

  26. Anonymous says:

That is certainly too funny. Were the private roads, driveways and parking lots on Cayman Brac also paved by mistake also? And if that were the case, why wasn't that stopped with haste also.

Poor me. Guess I had to be from Cayman Brac for my road to qualify for paving.

In other words Corruption is legal in Grand Cayman.

      • Anonymous says:

Clearly you have not discovered the unpublished dictionary of these fair islands, if you had you would look up corruption and see it means politics as usual

Get a police van, go around and pick up the W B UDP, and Cayman’s first female premier (may as well get her ‘personal assistant’ to keep her company) and arrest them. Do not listen to their alcoholic bullshit stories. Get some real investigators and prosecute them for the laws they have broken and continue to break. Otherwise we must all just accept that ‘that’s the way it’s done’ and swarm like hungry dogs to see what we can get for ourselves, by any means possible from the government, dart, the uk or what it whomever.
I truly believe there is some cultural thing where they don’t even think they are lying. Or they have been doing it so long and so much that they no longer think of it is lying.

  28. Anonymous says:

And if you believe that, you will believe anything. I hear a government whistleblower is about to step up to the plate. I'm not sure I'd trust the witness protection scheme, but it will be funny watching the rats scurry.

    • Eye on Society says:

If there was nothing that I could accomplish in my life, seeing these RATS scurry is the thing I would LIVE for. I mean that.

  29. St Peter says:

Why does our Premier not attend Press briefings?  Is she once again trying to avoid responsability as she has in the past?   She is the queen of the pavers.  Lets hear from her.

  31. Anonymous says:

Did you see that pig fly? Would be interesting to know who's driveway it is…if the owner was surprised, why did he not stop them??

  32. Anonymous says:

Maybe one of her so called "TEKNOCRATS" needs their batteries changed.

  33. Anonymous says:

The paving in Cayman Brac was a mistake too. As a matter of fact the UDP was a huge mistake that we will seemingly be paying for forever.

  34. Anonymous says:

I guess that will be the official story on all the private parking lots and driveways paved on the Brac!

    • Anonymous says:

No no that cant be the official story on the Brac as the Executive Mr Paul was calling to tell some of the people that julie was sending the paving truck to their yard at a certain day.
