Miller takes to hustings in head to head fight

| 04/04/2013

_DEW0080.jpg(CNS): The incumbent member in the district of North Side will be launching his election campaign Thursday evening in a political battle that many believed was not going to happen. Ezzard Miller had been expected to be returned on Nomination Day as it appeared no one was willing to go head to head with the populist representative, who is expected to be returned with a significant majority. However, in a last minute announcement, the beleaguered former MD of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), Joey Ebanks, declared his intention to run against Miller on his Facebook page, despite being on police bail under suspicion of theft, drug offences and abuse of office.

Miller said he was in no doubt who is really behind Ebanks’ 11th hour decision to run against him but after four years of serving the district he is confident the people of North Side will return him to the Legislative Assembly. He said he would not allow the appearance of Ebanks on the political platform to distract him from the main issues, such as the high rate of unemployment among Caymanians when there are over 20,000 work permit holders, the need for a minimum wage and the pressing need to encourage local investment in the country.

However, Miller said he was expecting Ebanks to continue “sowing seeds of hatred” to detract from his own problems and believes that his opponent has been coaxed into the fight by former premier McKeeva Bush. Miller said he would be addressing this issue at his campaign launch because he was “one of only two people who have consistently stood up and exposed much of the mismanagement of his UDP government”.

Miller said it was no surprise that his political colleague, Arden McLean, was also in a head to head fight with a “controllable candidate” who has received the endorsement of the UDP leader, despite running on an independent ticket.

In his launch this evening Miller will be discussing the plans he has to continue the fight for the rights not just of North Siders but all Caymanians. He will not be offering any lavish refreshment, Miller told CNS, but he will be offering plain speaking about the future and what he hopes to achieve in the nextfour years for his district.

The meeting will take place at the Craddock Ebanks Civic Centre and will start at 8pm.

Ezzard is a man of integrity coming from a great upbringing but he too has his faults. He seems to have an issue with every proposal and we cannot run a country like that. I strongly agree with transparency but we must offer proper solutions and not just cheap talk and promises. We must all remember that dart is a paper caymanian who has proven his worth in cayman especiallywhen he had so many options to go elsewhere. Our government is broke and have been mismanaged for eons in every way possible. The caymanian people are really tired and fed up with more of the same. I am happy to see many of our young caymanians showing a keen interest and ambition to become involved in politics but I am afraid that they will be influenced and persuaded to jump on the band wagon with the same old way of running the country’s affairs. I hope and pray to god that we will get it right come may22. Or god help us all.

  2. WHAT !!!!!!! says:

Yep its commical to see the photos he put up…Even one with Ezzard finger lol how stupid can one get…. What i like is the invites he sent out on FB for his meeting and all that confirm so far that they coming I checkrd only one can VOTE in Northside…So please dont panic if you see any lil crowd to he meetings check where they can vote…Same thing had happen when UDP had lost they were bussing people from West to make numbers in GT and BT but election day proved the crowds wrong PPM swept them clean..

  3. Peanuts says:

Mr. Ezzard Miller is the enemy of corrupt business people and members of Government. They put lables on him such as anti-expat, and anti business. If he had played along with the UDP in 09 he would have been a minister from the get go, however he had experenced the lack of integrity that formed the Government, and would not throw his lot in with them. I thank God for Mr. Miller, his record in the LA is sterling. His conduct in the LA, and his time on the PAC as chairman, show the high standard he set's for all his undertakings. Any time he speaks in the LA or in Public his presentations are examples for others in the house to emulate.

His criticism of the Government is always supported by fact, for example the CAL expos'e and the recent CHEC ripoff.

Before you put Ezzard Premier remember his first failed attempt at running the Counrty in 1988 to 1992. The man was a failure then and still displays those hard head dictatorial tendencies.

  4. Angry North Sider !!! says:

I am a Caymanian from North Side and I’m upset with the only 2 choices I have to choose from….Tweedle Dee vs. Tweedle Dum!
None of them live in North Side so why would they even run for North Side!!!

Ezzard, what have you done for me or for the people of North Side??? All you do is oppose anything that comes up, any plans for the betterment of Cayman!
I will never vote for you again! Or my family for that matter ( That’s 10 votes by the way!)
What was that that you said in Rooster?… That you rather burn down the playground that Dart built in NS then let any children play in it?!!!! What kid of man says this!!! Lemme ask you again Bobo, what have you done for NS?
What about all them Cubans and expats you hired to work at the Ritz? Why aren’t my people chosen to work!!?

Sick of all these Politricks!! Somebody send someone better to run for NS cus my choices are no choices at all!!!!

  5. Hotstepper says:

Joey is the lesser of the two evils in respect to the best interests of the Cayman Islands. Ezzard is more of a liability than even the Mac Daddy himself.

Now that is plainly ridiculous. You must be a UDP supporter trying to minimize the damage.

    This is comedic ! ROTFL

  7. Get Up Stand Up says:

    Go Ezzard!

Dont waste too much time campaigning against Joey, spend your time outlining your vision for the district and for the country.

When people ask what difference an independent candidate can make simply point to your excellent track record of exposing corruption and suggesting solutions.

Continue to stand for the Caymanian people on principle.

We need you in the LA and we hope that Arden will get elected with a few other independents who will be able to stand with you and create an even more significant influence on government policy.

Although Ezzard may not be liked by alot of people, he is a necessary opposition in the LA. If he wasn't in the LA, alot of things would not have been EXPOSED to the public. So I think when the people speak and vote him back in, it is God speaking and electing Ezzard for another four years. I am not from North Side and I am personally grateful that Ezzard is a member of the LA. Many Caymanians are grateful to God that alot of things have been EXPOSED through Ezzard. As for Joey, what makes him think that North Siders will put him over Ezzard Miller???

I find it incredible that several persons either already convicted of crimes or currently charged with crimes have the nerve to put themselves forward for election.  It speaks volumes about our society that these individuals are not only allowed to be nominated, but are so certain they can gain our votes. There are at least six individuals who don't seem to have the decency or common sense to appreciate that they are no longer fit to represent this country (some never were). Couple that with one or two who don't know their ear from their a$$ and can barely string two sentences together.  What a hot mess!

the whole thing sums up what a joke politics is around here…..

    • Anonymous says:

Thank you. Was just about to say the exact same thing. Just a joke. Other democratic places campaign goes on for almost a year. Around here its just the month before and they expect you to have known them a lifetime. Besides their members only conventions has there been any open air meetings? No.

You hit the nail on the head. A joke!

Oh come on 11.01…do you really want a year of these numbskulls reminding us how great and good and hardworking they are just before the election when they did nothingfor 3.5 years?

You cannot have a "significant majority" in a rotten borough.  He got 254 votes last time.

Ezzard will mop up the floor with Joey- and justly so.

      • Annonymous!!! says:

You are right, Ezzard will mop up the floor with the silver tongue devil.  He has no chance in north side. We are smart, intelligent people. WE can weed out the thorns from the roses any day. Joey , stay home , respect your family and get out of north side. You have no vision for us.

This is a race for honesty, respect, integrity, credibility. Something you dont have.

        • Anonymous says:

I have to agree with you and wow I like the name "silver tongue devil" his tongue is now so corroded that we need to order some special silver cleaner for that silver tongue or maybe we should just let it stay that greenish/blackish color for now?  Joey has all the time on his hands for now, posting all these pictures on facebook of him knocking on North Side residents' doors funny I didn't see one where anybody was opening their door or talking to him, just him standng at the door knocking, then walking away – reminds me of when the Jehovah Witness comes knocking at my door and I am sitting inside watching them and waiting for them to leave so I can get outside for a smoke – hahahahah poor Joey nobody wants to hear anything from you.

Your comments give light to your lack of knowledge …. North Side ( note two words) is a District …. London and New York City have boroughs, but then one is sure one is aware of such !

      • Anonymous says:

In fact your comments show your lack of knowledge, since the term "rotten borough" is a historical and political term of art with specific meaning and it is clear that that meaning was completely lost on you.  Go back to your ignorance and get ready to vote Ezzard.

    • Anonymous says:

I really hope he does not trot out the old ex pats taking jobs of caymanians stuff, a worn out record that comes out every time and then no-one does anything about it because they realize where CIG income comes from and that the real problem is actually something completely different–those that are not working either do not want to or are unemployable due to attitudes etc. We have some fine caymanian colleagues here in our office…no issues, they work hard, play hard…respect for doing it right instead of making excuses!!. Not working or being unemployable is not a privilege us ex-pats have…we have to work hard and efficiently or lose our jobs and get off island in a hurry…think about it…

    • Anonymous says:

Rotten borough?  Substantiate this statement please?  As an expat living on-island and in the "rotten borough" I personally believe I was lucky enough to land in the best district on-island with the best district representation from Mr Miller.  Compared to the other "boroughs" and their candidates (even though I don't vote) – you can keep em.  I'd rather live in a beautiful district with a good district rep who has honesty, integrity and accountability than live in another district with bent politicians any day.

There was absolutely no need for you to make such a negative comment – better if you had said nothing at all if nothing positive to contribute.

    • Annonymous!!! says:

You still cant get over that 254 votes can you,  that's what he scored out of 550 so do your math, three canidates, he won fair and square.

North side is not a rotten bourough, but chances are it may become one.

We want Mr. Miller back as our represenative for another four years, HONESTY, INTEGRITY,LEADERSHIP, last but not least TRANSPARENCY. This is what we will get with him.   There is a lot more in north side that will support him than you think.

In my house there is 5 votes and they all have D.E,Miller written all over them. Give them hell Ezzard, stir up the heat.
