George Town girl is Caribbean’s first top model

| 28/05/2013

treveen (210x300).jpg(CNS): After three months of tough competition, Cayman’s Treveen Stewart has taken the first ever Caribbean Top Model title. The George Town native beat out some 22 other girls to win the finale of the TV reality showed, based on the original America’s Next Top Model, hosted by supermodel Tyra Banks. Stewart took the title in the last show Monday night from Stephany Francisca from Curaçao. Check back to CNS for more on Treveen’s win later.

I have decided to become an art collector!

  3. Anonymous says:

first of all let me say CONGRATULATIONS TO TRAVEEN, what an awesome acheivement for you!! Although I do not know ms. Traveen personally I do know that she is a young Caymanian who has gone the extra mile to accomplish her dreams and is succeeding in doing so and for that we should all, as caymanians ourselves,  give her a round of applause and stop fighting down our own people.  This is why other nationalities come here to our Island and make it far better than we do BECAUSE THEY SUPPRT THEIR OWN . Traveen keep on keeping on, I hope and pray that you will go straight to the top and and as discouraging as these haters are i pray more young Caymanians will get out there and do the same . BTW the Bibe also says "those without sin cast the first stone" and that should not judge!

Wow you people are actually complaining about the picture that is up on the local website when this picture was shown across the Caribbean? GET OVER IT AND CONGRATULATE HER

I swear cant please you people.

  5. anonymous says:

She doesn't have to "promote" the Cayman Islands.  There is an agency for that.  She needs to promote herself.  If she doesn't look after herself, no one else will.

    i took a nude pic once…only once..but it looked NOTHING like this !!!     🙁

    • Anonymous says:

I took a nude picture once also. Then the neighbors put up a barricade fence : (

    you people cant be serious..

this was one of the photos that she used in the competition.. if she wasnt comfortable with it she wouldnt have taken it

shes also an adult and has been independent for while now based on her interview with caman 27 she has been for a while

let be a little more realistic here, it wasnt aimed at alluring men; this isnt pornography, this is art. its aimed more toward femininity and being comfortable with yourself. we need more strong women to do this.

  8. Whodatis says:

A bit flabbergasted by some of these comments.

I guess the fashion / model industry is simply not for everyone.

I am a red-blooded, heterosexual adult male (I cannot speak for the lesbians in the room), and I do not consider the photo to be inappropriate or over-sexualized.

Not every image of a naked woman / man is intended to induce sexual arousal.

Perhaps some of our readers ought to exmaine their personal mindset before opting to spew outrageous viewpoints into the virtual stratosphere.

As for the bible-thumpers in the room … I thought God created us in his own image … and we all came out naked, no? (Who knows, heaven may be a nudist colony!)

    Congrats, Treveen.

    • Anonymous says:

Do you know what whodatis? That is probably the first sensible thing you have said – ever.

    • Anonymous says:

Well sir, as a normal red blooded hetro male I don’t guess you would find it over-sexualized.
Perhaps even a bit, ah, under sexualized? Like maybe using your uncontrolled imagination to bring the image up to par?

  9. Anonymous says:

The picture although inappropriate only enforces what we all know to be true. Big money over-sexualizes women and rewards them for posing in sexually alluring ways.

Big money also undermines manhood and tries to get us to behave as lecherous, lustful slobs.

It's time to turn our backs on this bullshit and embrace our wives, husbands, children, friends, co-workers as human beings made in the image of God and worthy of respect, love and forgiveness.

We tread on thin ice when we call wrong to be right and vice-versa. The last time I checked, all of us are in the same boat together. If we all started rowing in the same direction, we'd have a little less strife during our short lives.

If a couple decides to plan for a conventional family, nobody should get in thier way, but your an idiot to think that conventional families should be looked upon as better than other types of families and your encouraging discrimination to take place in the work place and elsewhere which only causes more pain than necessary to people of all types just wanting to be happy in thier own way. Is that your real motive, to cause pain under the guise of guiding people that your way is the one and only way. Pretty sick if you ask me.

And a 50% divorce rate and a billion dollar wedding market in the US keeps all the Churches in business.

  10. Anonymous says:

I am more worried about her short hair, which is clearly against the bible's teaching read 1 Corinthians 11.14-15.

and she is representing this Christian nation?

    • Anonymous says:

What are you saying? short hair defines her christian beliefs? some of you need to put the bible down for a minute and just try to enjoy life as we see it – stop hating on other people just because you want to live your life by the book and be trapped in a little tiny piece of this world doesn't mean everyone else wants to be trapped with you !! geeez I am so sick of hearing all this religious bull crap !! get a life and enjoy it – obviously you are miserable with yours !

    It's a beautiful picture. It's very classy.

    • Fitness freak says:

      I agree!

All these hating swampdonkeys are just jealous! I bet they don't even like taking their clothes off in private… True story!

  13. Sasha Grey says:

Why the uproar? She posed for the photo.

She won a competition based on her looks not her brains.

  14. Anonymous says:

Congrats to Treveen for following what she wants to do elsewhere as obviously by some comments made here would have discouraged her is she stayed home in Cayman. This girl obviously wants to pursue modeling and that cannot be established by staying here (for now). She now has great potential in furthering her career that she obviously has a passion for.. Stop blaming CNS about posting a PHOTO FROM HER PHOTO SHOOT THAT WAS ON NATIONAL TV AND NOT FROM A PLAYBOY SHOOT. Sheeesh…

  15. Anonymous says:

    Congratulations Treveen!! You deserve winning.

Working hard at all the photo shoots getting a few "Best Photo of the week", you accepted the judges comments or critcism if it was needed and moved on th the next shoot looking beautiful. Keep it up and let no one with their negative comments scare you into not succeeding in your modeling career.

From one Caymanian woman to the next…..go reach for the stars and catwalks of the world is calling you.

I can hear Papi Conolly's song "My Caymanian Girl" in my head.

    God Bless and good luck!!

  16. Anonymous says:

Why is she hunched over? I don’t think this picture is the best possible option.

    • Anonymous says:

She's the Caribbean's first Top Model! And Beautiful!

Those against the choice of photo need to get off your holy horse. It's appreciation for art and being natural…she's not showing anything that anyone comfortable with the human body need be offended by.

And if you are offended….the question might be….why? Clearly she is not….nor are the vast majority of "Models".

    • Anonymous says:

Each photo shoot was based on a theme.  Her hunching over forms part of the them for this particular photo shoot.

      • Anonymous says:

i can't believe you had to actually explain this to them… the ignorance on this page is appalling..

  17. Rorschach says:

Sorry CNS, but I have to think as women, you would NOT have put up a photo of a TEENAGER that is 98% NUDE…If this were MY daughter, you guys who have some 'splainin to do..Please..take it down and put up something a little more respectful..

    • Anonymous says:

why else would she take the picture of she didnt want us to see it? she looks good and I cant wait to see her on the cover of sports illustrated

      • Anonymous says:

She may be mostly nude but the photograph is not in any way pornographic.  I think she looks beautiful.  It's the human form after all!  She isn't posed in a lascivious manner; in fact, this picture is far less sexually explicit than what you can see on the streets of Georgetown during Batabano!

    • Anonymous says:

She is not a teenager. She is in her early twenties.

  18. Anonymous says:

I take it this was on a channel I have never watched and never will?

    • Anonymous says:

It aired on Channel 27 every week.  So whether you pay for cable or not, you are still able to watch it as I did.

  19. "Strong Believer" says:

Congratluations!!  Am positive CNS could have found more appropriate photos of such  exceptional beauty to put on display.

You've made your country proud Ms. Stewart.

    • Anonymous says:

      yes, but sex sells

      • kathy says:

As a Caymanian, I hate to think that we would make sex as the goal post of our women's accomplishments and success. Lord help us if this where Cayman is heading.

        • Harrow says:

Kathy you need to get real. This lady choose he path in life. She is of age and no one can tell her what to do in a free society. If she make herself better why constrain her. Cayman is no longer "the island that time forgot".

        • Anonymous says:

oh please get off your high horse..Cayman is heading??? Cayman has more problems then a young girl tastefully being photographed…

          • Anonymous says:

I don't think she was targeting "a young girl."  And Cayman indeed has a morality problem. To deny that just shows how unaware of the nature of social influence upon our young people, and how it effects our next generation.

  20. Anonymous says:

YASS! The best girl won, most definately.

  21. Whodatis says:

    Congrats Treveen!

    A well deserved win.

Granted, she was controversial at times (like making poor Susan cry), but she dug in at thecrucial moments and rose to the challenge when it mattered.

E.g. the native tribes, yoga, and Indian themed photoshoots. (That elephant pic was simply epic!)

In fact, even her acting skills were up to par as demonstrated in the little skit with the Toni-Braxton-pretty-boy-Floyd fella … can't remember the name at the moment.

I see big things in your future, Treveen … congrats again!

Didn't watch the show though … jus' heard bout it!

(Man a BAD man … chat bout!!)

    ;o)

    • Anonymous says:

If you didn't watch the show how do you know how she "made poor Susan cry"?  Hearsay?

I watched the entire show.  For the most part most of the girls disliked Treveen and it was Treveen who received most of the hate, but rose above it.  The girls disliked her more because she was in it to win and not to make "friends" and she made that clear from the start.  Throughout the show she was determined and focused.  Poor Susan, lovely as she was, was weak and feeble throughout the entire show.  She should have focused on the competition not friendships with the other competitors.  She couldn't take criticism well and sometimes Treveen may have been a little harsh, but to be honest the day Susan cried I watched and didn't see what the big deal was.

Well done Treveen, you did us proud.  You come across as a strong and confident young lady so I am sure the baseless criticisms and comments here, many from people who didn't see the show and don't understand the themes in the photo shoots, won't phase you.

  22. Anonymous says:

    Put up a better/different pic CNS….seriously tho.

    • Anonymous says:

Yes seriously, change the photo. I only watched the episode from last night as C27 had it streaming live, but even from that one episode there were more appropriate photos. Use the one in the sari – all the judges complimented that and thought it was perfection. Well done to Treveen – she did us proud.

      • M says:

In the fashion, modeling, and art world, there has always been a disregard for modest apparel. Whatever attracts men who want nothing more from young women, but the S word. Sad, but get use to it.

        • Tim says:

Real men, or you meant dogs!

        • Sunrise says:

Maybe you should try getting to know real men!!!  If we look at a photo of a beautiful model, and just think of sex, then we have a serious problem!!  When I see this photo I can only think of a beautiful creation of God.  Remember, it was not until Eve sinned that we knew good from evil.  Before that they were both nude and I am sure, not having every sexual thought just because of that.  There are a lot of us that can look at a beautiful photo like this and appreciate the art and not the sexuality in it.  I do not see anything sexual in this photo, can anyone tell me what is sexual about this?  Try comparing this photo to a Playboy or Hustler magazine before answering.  Congratulations Treveen Stewart, I do not know you but wish you success in your career!!!!

  23. Anonymous says:

Congratulations, Use your god given advantages for the higher good.

  24. Anonymous says:

Why that particular picture? I’m sure CNS had access to more appropriate pictures.

  25. Slowpoke says:

I watched this show, but only because my wife made me do it.

  26. Anonymous says:

Congrats Traveen, excellent performance you have made cayman proud.

  27. Anonymous says:

Treveen did not take the title from Stephany Francisc,  they were both finalists in the competition and she won. Congratulations Treveen!! LARGE up ya self!

  28. Hoping for better days says:

Congrats!!!! It is good to read something positive on here for a change!!!!!!

  29. Anonymous says:

Good for her. Now let’s hope she doesn’t rise and fade as fast as Selita did!

    • Anonymous says:

And who says Selita has faded?

    • Anonymous says:

Selita has faded? Are you serious?!!!

Ebanks also has her own line of swimwear, accessories and shoes called Sass which stands for Selita's Accessories Shoes and Swimwear. The line was seen on the BET Rip The Runway 2012 which she hosted alongside Pooch Hall.

      …and Selita goes on…..

      • Anonymous says:

Yeah and when was her last major modeling campaign done?? Victorias Secret 2009?? She got things going on, but as a model she’s fading……tick tock….

        • Anonymous says:

ummmm… whilst you sit around at your measily job doing God knows what Selita is still in commercials today for Victoria's Secret. If you have cable or satelite you would see that.. At some point in time (long way from now) she will stop modeling but her name will be remembered unlike most ofthe ignorant people making foolish comments on this site.
