corvette (286x300).jpg(CNS): The emergency services were out in force on Saturday night when Corvette Z06 burst into flames following a collision at a George Town junction. Police said the smash happened at around 10:10 pm on 22 June at the junction of Shedden Road and Thomas Russell Avenue by Jacques Scott Liquors & Wine. A Ford Range pick-up truck that was traveling on Thomas Russell Avenue towards North Sound Road was hit by the Corvette Z06, which was traveling on North Sound Road towards Thomas Russell Avenues, as it tried to turn right on to Shedden Road. Both vehicles collided and as a result of the impact, the Ford Ranger flipped on its side and the Corvette caught fire.

An RCIPS spokesperson said they understood that a member of the public helped free the driver of the burning Corvette, which was almost completely destroyed by the fire.

Police, fire and EMS personnel all attended the scene and the Corvette was extinguished by officers from the fire service. The 49-year-old driver, who was unaccompanied in the Corvette was taken to George Town hospital, where he stayed for observation although he apparently escaped with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 44-year-old man driving the Ford truck and the 31-year-old female passenger were also taken to hospital for minor injuries.

Both drivers were breathalysed and the results were negative for alcohol, police confirmed.

    Glad all involved are okay.

Interesting how Cayman 27 identified this as the ‘Jacques Scott’ intersection, rather then the ‘Compass 4-way’ that I have always known it as.

Dude….happens everywhere not just here in Cayman. YOu make it seem like we are isolated in this regard yet almost without fail EVERY SINGLE DAY on CNN I here about one accident or another AND that's just the ones that reach top line media.

All I am saying is don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Just another idiot. We are allowed to have a few of those just like we are allowed to have a few corrupt politicians, police and the rest.

All we need to do is when they stick their dirty little heads up we bash them with a shovel and be done with it.

07.51 The USA is a country of some 350 million people, hearing about a bad one a day should be the norm….but that happening here means we have a real problem..

"Littler Red Corvette, baby you're much too fast".

PS: I intentionally used "Littler" rather than "Little" because after this event it is littler by about a foot in height and two feet in length.
