Car stolen at gunpoint in GT

| 18/09/2013

(CNS): A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a car was stolen at gunpoint in George Town yesterday evening. According to the RCIPS, just before 6pm on Tuesday 17 September, they received a report of the car jack near to the Red Cross building in Huldah Avenue. The suspect, who was known to the victim, sped off in the stolen Honda Civic, which was spotted a short time later by police patrols. A car chase began and the Air Operations Unit and USG officers were deployed. The stolen Civic travelled at speeds of around 60-80mph along Shamrock Road, weaving in and out of traffic, and so, in line with the RCIPS pursuit policy and concerns about public safety, the critical incident manager took the decision to stand down the pursuit .

However, the police helicopter crew maintained observations on the car as it continued into the Midland Acres area. The car swerved off the road and the suspect ran into a nearby yard and bushes. The helicopter crew then guided Uniformed Support Group (USG) officers to the suspect’s hiding place and he was immediately arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Anyone who was in the area of Huldah Avenue and witnessed the incident, or the car travelling from Huldah Avenue to Midland Acres, is asked to contact George Town police station on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line on 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS).

Kidnapping for ransom will be the next new crime spree. It's the crime of choice throughout Central America, where most of the construction laborers are coming from since the Jamaicans were pretty much banned from getting any permits renewed.

It won't be long till headlines like this:

WOMAN KINDAPPED IN SOUTH SOUND, $100.000 RANSOME.

The cause of all this is the 7 year rollover fiasco. Before kicking out all the expats that invested in the island and were not criminals, crimes were nowhere near this level of seriousness or frequent.

LOL. Rollover is the scapegoat for everything, eh. What nonsense.

Government better act fast. This island too SMALL to bear this type of blow! We have no where to run. This is home for us. Only the Foreign passport holders have options. Us? Stuck with a dire future. But we all should make it our duty to correct these social problems. And we should start with muti purpose compounds. One for kids to swim, dance, play, sew, cook etc..where they come together for beneficial activites. The other compund?Set up trade schools for the older pupils to learn a skill. These kids are bored and lazy. Look at the ages of these recent arrest and tell me these criminals aren’t getting more brazen and much younger. Wow. I remember before we could blame these types of crimes on the middle aged spaced out crack heads. But now they just a bunch of young ins looking for attention and infamy! Too many kids growing up neglected.. Parents need to do better. Remember this, “devil find work for idle hands”. Our government would be smart in requiring big money investors to donate to facilities and other causes here in exchange for the use of our haven. Not only is it a fair trade but it’s a benefit for all. We need to address crime as a priority. Things are spiraling out of control. And fast!

Big money investors and little money investors all pay and contribute plenty for the use of your 'haven'.  Try telling the fathers of these young men to invest time and discipline in their sons.

You are absolutely right 100%! Parents need to start taking responsibility and start giving time to their children. I am 45 years old and I know the times have changed from my days but I too have 4 children ages 21 – 3. I am a full time mother and wife working 6 days a week 8 hours a day and I still find time to wake up in the morning make breakfast, get the younger kids ready for school, take them to school, go to work, attend school meetings or any other functions during the weekday, talk to my elder kids who are away in university, pick the kids up from school, assist them with their homework and still make time to spend with my spouse as well as find some me time! Yes there are nights when I go to bed at 1am and I am back up again at 530am but guess what that is the sacrifice one have to make when you have a family and they are your responsibility! These children are NOT the responsibility of the Government, the schools, the Churchs, other family members or even friends, they are YOURS! Half of the situation right now in society with our kids is lack of parental involvment. What I have seen over the past 6-8 years, as soon as children leave the Primary school stages in their life parents no longer attend PTA/HSA meetings, they no longer attend Reporting Sessions, they no longer take the kids to birthday parties, rather they drop them off and you have to call them to come pick their kids up. They no longer get involve in Chruch or in school activities. Those are OUR children! They are growing up on their own and as a result they are following those that are giving them the attention they are needing and seeking from their parents!

Cayman have a lot more entertainment for its young people now than when I was a young person.  We just need more parental control and more involvement in wholesome activities (hint, hint  church/youth group).

So not only should I hire your failure children but I should also give out money to the socialist state of Cayman Your  Crazy. I will leave soon with my family and I dont care about the millions I have dumped in this place. I will get it back No problem just some hard work. Furthermore I will make sure there is a warning posted to other investors to make sure they know what really goes on here. Sorry to all those I love here. Just as I am sorry I will be sending my oldest child to boarding school But I will do as I must  to ensure my child is ridded of her Cayman mentality.

That's why we need the helicopter.  Especially when there is a no pursuit policy for traffic units.
