Murder investigation begins

| 29/10/2013

(CNS): Following the discovery of the body of a 35-year-old man in a pond behind some apartments off Courts Road in George Town, police are understood to have launched a murder investigation. Although there are still few official details, Patrick Leonard Williamson was reportedly found at around 7am on Monday morning behind the apartments where he lived. A missing person report was filed at around 3pm on Sunday, police said. Williamson was believed to have been involved in an altercation outside a bar late Friday night, early Saturday morning, when he was last seen alive. Police have said very little about how Williamson was killed except that his death was suspicious and have now issued details of his movements Friday.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw Williamson on Friday night-Saturday morning to come forward. He was last seen alive at around 3:30 on Saturday morning in the vicinity of Eastern Avenue/Courts Raod. He was driving a silver Toyota Corolla 145 228 and had been out to various licensed establishments – Meringue Town, Bananas and Nectar – with friends on Friday night. One of the lines of enquiry that detectives are following is that he may have been involved in an altercation at Nectar with another man on the night in question. If you were at Nectar and witnessed this, please contact the police.

The senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Joseph Wright, is appealing for anyone who saw Williamson (pictured above) or his car on Friday evening into Saturday morning to come forward. The car (photo attached) has damage to the rear nearside. Information can be passed to George Town police station 949-4222, the RCIPS tip line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477(TIPS).

The RCIPS confirmed that a family liaison officer has been appointed and a post mortem examination will take place to establish the exact cause of death.

This is the fourth murder of 2013, all of which have occurred in the space of six weeks, with the first murder of the year happening in West Bay on 15 September when Irwin Bush was gunned down outside his home in West Bay. That was followed by the fatal shooting of Earl Hart in Prospect on 3 October on his own front doorstep, and then the murder of Anthony ‘Beenie’ Connor outside the Mango Tree restaurant in George Town on 11 October. All three victims were shot, and despite some conflicting reports from the RCIPS, they are all understood to be gang related.

There has been no indication that Williamson was shot and there appears to be no indication at all that this killing was gang related.

There is far too less criminality prevention and enforcement on this island. There is a culture that has been grown for decades and has evolved to what we see today. Make no mistake we have had crack addiction and liquor abuse for decades. People burning weed is nothing new. Fights that bring serious bodily harm and death have happened in years past. But the population is larger, we now live in an era of YouTube and instant TV and we have people emulating what the latest culture is to the North. We have people from the Jam land and central American countries alongside side Philippine immigrants. I am not advocating banning these people but we need ro embrace the reality that they are bringing a culture with them that comes with good and bad. When this is brought it will spill over onto our streetts. It will influence our own unpleasantly admmitted useless people. May God watch over this. Man and his family as this is a horrible time for them.

Yes you're right I have been saying it for 20 years. There is too many people of one country here. It can only achieve a disaster. We need to put in a quota system . No more then 1000 people from a good size country that doesn't have such a high crime rate per 100,000. Otherwise you get what we got.

Crime is up yes, murder is rampant, yes but we have the finest Commisioner of Police and Police force. They just need more of our money…Can they please have some more.?

This is so sad may God be with his family in their time of loss. Rest in peace Patrick, I made my decision this morning to leave my island home and seek a safe life for me. May God bless these Cayman Islands.

Let us see once again. A resident of this country is murdered. Countless armed robbers are running around. I would venture to say that the CCTV has given productive evidence in 1% of these incidents. How poor is that? Our electronic eyes seem to be that of a blindman.

4 murders in 6 weeks in a population of 55,000?  Annualize that rate and Cayman is now the murder capital of the world.

Stop being such a drama queen…

Honduras is number 1 with 91.6 murders per 100,000 residents, El Salvador is 2nd at 69.2 and Cayman barely grabs the global bronze medal in this race with 63 murders per 100,000.

Jeesh – you would have thought this was a problem the police and law makers should be worrying about…

Please tell me, is number 3 in the world something tobe proud of?

Way to manipulate statistics to make them say what you want. the stupidity of that comment is staggering.

    • Freakin' 'ell says:

Not quite but very close. 4 murders in 6 weeks annualizes to 34.66 per year, and converting that to "per 100,000 population", as the statistics are tabulated, makes it equivalent to … wait for it … 63.03 murders per year per 100,000 population of Cayman.

Per Wikipedia, by country Honduras is still worse (at 91.6 – holy crap!) and El Salvador is s bit worse (at 69.2) and then comes the Cayman Islands in the #3 position as the most murders by population based on the current trend (which to be fair isn't what happens every week).  No matter that though, it's definitely time to gtfood.

You seriously wrote that Cayman is now has the highest murder rate in the world? Whatpart of the world are you living in? Do you realize that Honduras has the highest murder rate in the world? Do you read the news? When hundreds of people are getting killed in SMALL cities in Honduras that are the size of the Cayman Islands put together, PER DAY, you should re-evalute your statistics. Maybe do a survey? Thank you.

    • Anonymous says:

This is just 1  city not the entire country. If  you do the maths we are not in that range

For the second straight year, San Pedro Sula, in northwest Honduras, has topped a list of the world's 50 most violent cities, with a rate of 169 intentional homicides per 100,000 inhabitants — an average of more than three people every day.

All the trolls and thumbs down on here are unjustified. I love this little island as much as anyone but  open your eyes and stop living in denial of this situation thinking every thing is hunky dory. Its not.. crime is rampant. out of control.. some of the worst anywhere in the world.

yes, say ( or write) it again,  the alcohol abuse is out of control    it is madness how we are bombarded with booze ads    this is where the problem starts   check it out ,  99% of all murders or other violent crimes are alcohol related !!!   this murder for SURE was booze related !   god help us !  stop pushin the booze !!!!!!!!!!

    • Anonymous says:

If Alcohol is the problem, why are so many crying foul, that I can't get more licenses , when I already have 10 or 15 places selling liquor.  Is it that some of those people are too avaricious and want every dollar in their pockets?  It is time for government to stop issuing liquor licenses and start reducing the numbers of licenses that are held by individuals.

Some use liquor as an excuse to do the things they want to do.  Stop drinking liquor if you cannot control yourself after consuming it.  Save your self and others, stay sober.

Though I agree with you on the negative effects of our favorite legal drug, I fear many people will not let your message in for the fear they have of facing life head on with out mood altering. Add to that the powerful business forces involved, and I find the best solution is to just stay clear of intoxicant generated pain and misery, though it is constantly around me.

If I am not mistaken, none of the murders this year are gang related or are pointing to that, as per the RCIP. We can all pray for this man and his family as another soul is off to hopefully a better place. The headlines on all news services within these shores are all reading large about criminality on this Island and the Immigration issue. When you view this, it makes a very scary read and hence paints a poor picture of our community. The Governement needs to address this, meaning all branches that hold accountability for thier respective parts. The lip service needs to stop. While the headlines most certainly hold the Police in a foggy light, it also holds the education system in this same light, along with the family unit as a whole. I am not advocating a bible thmping church going community as the answer, as we do have a lot of church people. What I am saying is we need people that talk the talk and then walk the walk, meaning that going to church on Sunday in a suit but drinking on Friday and sleep with other people than a spouse, and then beating your wifes doesnot make you are good and moral person. When you look at the home life of alot of this community, no matter the income, in most cases they are broken. This is where the problem lies at the root. The culture of bumping and grinding one and all. The alchol abuse is out of control. Point fingers at the Police for certain, but hold a mirror to yourself.

I couldn't agree with you more.  1000 thumbs up for you

    • Anonymous says:

If none of these murders are gang related then that's worse. It means several different motives instead of the usual gang-drugs related.

    • Anonymous says:

You are so right.  The behaviour of suppsed church goers and the supposed church leaders who claim to be spreading the gossip do nothing for the community at large.  Most are leading double standards lives in the first place.  Which one of the church leaders or congregation in the matter of fact go out witness in their community.  Just collecting your 10% is not going to cut it.  But lets face it most of these leaders are here for a quick buck and will swarn back to their country of origin. For some of them they have never had it so good.  They don't know the community.  They don't care about the community and this place is only a temporary stop gap until they can get their British Passport to travel and that means marrying some poor uneducated vulnerable Caymanian.  You would find most have families back home.  The oldest trick in the book.  The supposed christians need to do more and reach out more.  This is ridiculous where you can't assist in saving lives.  We keep talking about the roll over policy. We need to start looking in the Church institutions here and what affliation they have outside this island.  Now that is a real immigration issues. But then again some of those folks sitting in immigration now have status and managed to bring in their friends and foes.  Now we have PAPER STATUS CAYMANIANS running the show.  This is not good.   Wake up real Caymanians and smell the coffee.  Your island is being taking over by not desirable people who couldn't care less about you.  Opportunist hence the problems Cayman is getting.

      • Anonymous says:

Finally someone with a brain wrote about what is the real problem. The opportunists from that other island who has been destroying this island like they destroyed their own island. They will use anything and anyone for their own purposes. Wake up Cayman stop marrying them and feeling sorry for them. Finally thank you

That's right. Our magpie culture has imported the Southern US style of hypocrisy. We behave appallingly, then wash it away every Sunday, and tell ourselves whatever happens is God's will.

I do not think the people perpetuating this Pirates of the Caribbean behaviour are ever made to reflect on the inconsistency between what they profess to believe and how they act. They are simply doing what was shown to them in childhood – violence, church and all – and have never been more than 1,000 miles away from here to see anything else. What's more, they don't want to see anything else. It's what you call a short horizon.

Preach it! Your comment says to me that your understand the underlying issues we face in Cayman and the fact that it hasn't all started today!

  9. Anonymous says:

So that's two murders in a couple of days? Countless robberies. Cayman gotta stop this before we just like every other Caribbean island then it's all downhill.

If you give the rest of the Caribbean mass status grants,…..da wa you get.

Thanks Mac for turning us into Jamaica.

Its really really sad and terrible when robbers and murderers can show up at your residence shoot rob or kill you and dump your body without any fear whatsoever and the police are no where to be found No worries their listening to your private conversations to gather evidence to stop you from committing crimes against the economic & strategic interest of the UK!

    • patricia bryan says:

If they have been listening all this time, one would think they should have crimes solved more easily. Otherwise, hopefully now they will be able to, somewhat anyway. 🙁

Rest in Peace Patrick L because Cayman is simply no longer peaceful or safe for anyone to live or work Just another day another life lossed under this regime called the RCIPS with their million dollar budget. No worries they watching us and now listening to our private conversations too Errry Likkle ting is going to alright.

Well this case should be off on the right lead. Hopefully there was surveillance at the scene of the fight to identify suspects. And who knows those idiots probably used the same car at both times so check cox’s and kirks cameras out too. Let’s round them up quickly and get them off our streets.
