On Saturday officers patrolling Pirates Week activities in George Town saw a man in possession of a machete. As they went to apprehend the suspect, both officers were assaulted. As a consequence, the 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and assaulting police.

Prior to that, on Friday evening, 8 November, police officers at the George Town station received minor injuries after being assaulted by a prisoner. Three police officers received treatment for their injuries at the George Town hospital and were released. The 28-year-old man was subdued and arrested for assaulting police, damage to property and disorderly conduct at a police station.

Assaulting police officers is not an option in any civilized country, For that reason: arrest, handcuffs, jail.

I wonderd what the effect of the higher prices Cayman airways charged last week would be.

I went to the airport to see myself and as I assumed  the planes were not full Fridays planes were basically empty although fuller earlier in the week. Also not many private jets.

That said perhaps its the crime and bad press all the time that is keeping people away Or maybe it is the hatrid of outsiders  that is well known that is doing it or a combo of all three.

That said I also attended the parade and the pathetic floats and low quality displays that went along with them was a disgrace I cant believe the hoochie mommas doing there thing in the middle of the street. Someone saidto me that it is a cultural thing to wine like that and simulate masterbation in public was ok For me and my teen children it was quite shocking.

That said i will not come next year.

Perhaps you should find a remedial English holiday camp and learn something instead.

There will always be violence often fueled by alcohol and or drugs and when that violence is directed toward police it is the duty of the courts to send a message to the community at large that violence especially toward police will not be tolerated, period.

I do like the sound of the Americans' Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.  Seriously, all that department is missing is some BBQ and some hand grenades for fishin'. I really wish I worked there…

'Cops assaulted on job'. As a fellow (?) cop, you should know that it's a part of the job you VOLUNTEERED for, and part of the privilege of carrying a badge. Soak it up cup cakes.

You took the job to be different from the rest of society, to set an example. Stop trying to be the same.

The suspect's behaviour should absolutely be addressed, but don't expect special treatment just for doing your job.

You are a disgrace Maverick.  Do you also feel that we shouldn't celebrate Remembrance Day, and the Americans shouldn't celebrate Veterans Day on the basis that these brave men and women in the military "chose to be different" and therefore don't deserve special treatment.

      You are pathetic.

thank you to all RCIPS officers for risking your lives to protect us.

      Maverick, get a life.

Thank you bartender for risking your life when serving me a beer at night.   it is dark and everybody is drunk and shooters, robbers and machete carriers around. And you only get paid 2.50/hr and not everyone leaves a tip and you will walk at home in the middle of night . And your cheap medical insurance won't cover all your expenses in the unfortunate event ….

16.16, I went down there after the parade. The aggression and looks coming off some quite young looking punks with all the gold and hats the wrong way round was not good.. and I did not want to hang around. The violence comes because idiots like you do not teach your kids to behave properly and you expect the Police to take a beating. Lack of respect, including self respect, will be your gate opener to Northward

@Mavrick You are a very selfish, person who don't care about law and order in your country. I wish you would change your attitude towards the police. Needless to say your pronouncement on this site is very cruel. People like you are the first to run and scream to the police when any crime is being perpetrated against you, whether real or perceived.

They are human beings brothers and sisters, father and mothers, sons and daughters with families, feelings and emotions, goals and aspirations.

How about you suck it up when You are held up and rob or have a home invasion?

People who accuse you in being selfish want you to change, because they selfishly want to feel better and think you should suppress your selfish desire for their selfish desire.

You forgot to cc to yourself. I agree with Maverick 100%. Start honoring others for doing their jobs. A gas station clerk's job is not less risky than cop's. Chances of being shot at are even higher.

Taser or firearm would have fixed that problem. Wake up Cayman!

I understand that crime is alway a catchy headline, but especially during Pirates Week festival which has been actively marketed by some new faces of seeming dedicated and well versed individuals, is it not possible to report on how beautiful the fireworks were or how that all of the downtown restaurants were booked?  Isn't this too news in a seemingly ever depressing time we currently live in?  I know there are inspirational stories and those that mark great achievement and its obvious to tell from the number of comments that people have more to complain about then they do to be thankful for, but its not a trend I want to continue.

In the long run, the assault on two policemen in a public place by a maniac wielding a machete is more significant news than most other things reported this year and if anything should get more prominence, not less. The 'fact' that the fireworks at pirates week were nice is something to go on Facebook or in a postcard home.

I hope the police officers make a full recovery. Thank you, guys, for putting yourselves in danger for the rest of us. I'm ashamed nobody else has even bothered to mention you: too busy gazing at the fireworks and enjoying their meals, I guess.
