Robbers strike at 2nd GT bar

| 30/12/2013

(CNS): Police have begun an investigation into another armed bar robbery this holiday week in George Town. RCIPS officials said that the police received a report late Sunday night of an armed robbery at Campbell’s Bar in Portland Road at around 11:20pm. Three masked men, who were all said to be in possession of handguns, entered the bar and demanded cash. No shot were fired and no injuries were reported but, after threatening the bar attendant, the robbers escaped on foot with cash from the premises as well as cash and jewellery from three customers who were in the bar.

Police said that they were unable to say in which direction the assailants fled and the only description available at the time of the report was that two of the suspects were tall and the third was short. All the men were dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks.

This is the second George Town bar to be robbed over the holidays. Two armed masked men held-up Wellies Cool Spot on Thursday night. The RCIPS has not yet stated if they believe the two incidents are connected.

Anyone who was in the area at the relevant time and saw or heard anything suspicious is ask to contact the George Town Police at 949-4222, the RCIPS tip line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS).

Incompetent policing, with a commissioner and his deputy who do not care about the island. The rule of law has gone out of the window, they do as they please with ordinary officers too afraid for their jobs properly.  Get rid of him and his pit bull now.  Save law and order in Grand Cayman!

What a stupid unhelpful comment…only the immigration department and contraception can reduce the number of criminals on the island.

The availability of abortions would help too.  In the long term.

    CRIME WILL NEVER GET

Under control as long as this Commissioner of Police is allowed to do what he wants which is absoutly nothing with the resources given to him. He has the biggest budget that any Commissioner has ever had and his records are so much lower. When are we going to awake and see that this man was sent here to finish us off by allowing crime to escalate and businesses closing down with gun violence. I say GET RID OF THE COMMISSIONER HE IS NOT ABLE TO COPE WITH THIS JOB.

The police cannot fix a broken culture.

This crime began 20 to 30 years ago when unwanted boys were born into families that did not provide love, support, good nutrition, and education.

I don't say you are wrong, but If that's the reason why aren't there more theives and robbers?  I was born in a poor family and my father was a drunk and my teen years were not good…….. but I am not a robber!

So if you get rid of him that means all the many many criminaly minded persons will suddenly start to take responibility for thier own lives?   Will the lazy and incompetent local police officers then be free to excel in their jobs? Or maybe it will just be easier for crime to take over as the chief source of income for the uneducated and the unskilled like you.  The commissioner is not the problem.  The growing numbers of unskilled, unmotivated, and ethically challenged home grown criminals and want to be criminals are.  How would you fix that?
Without just getting rid of them.

So when are you getting out?

The more you pay for your drinks, the less chance you have of being robbed.  Simple.

Slowly but steadily this island is rotting away.

What will be left are gated communities and getto neighbourhoods.

There are people out there that know all of these perpetrators and what they're up to,and much much more.  They say nothing because they are either criminals themselves, dependent drug users, or fearful of certain retribution.  RCIPS know these neighbourhoods and social structure and do nothing to upset what they perceive to be a power balance.  Good citizens need to call their MLAs and encourage them to push harder to challenge the police:crime status quo, or these headlines will never end.

Why would anyone help the police, informants are killed due to inadequate police protection.  Until the polce want to protect the public, the public won't help the police.

Convenient excuse for once again, doing the square root of f….k all for your surroundings and community. Keep playing that old urban myth.

Do u believe that u get sick if rain touch your head too?

We do desperately need more gated communities/compounds.

So what are the good citizens willing to do to help to stop this? That's you & I in case you are not clear. Will we report our families & friends whom we suspect? Will we report suspicious activity we see? Will we testify at a trial when required? Will we take our jury duty responsibility seriously?

      • Anonymous says:

Yup, as long as the perp is not one of my cousins or a buddy.

      • Anonymous says:

It is not me.  To be clear.  What could be done in a moment is to change the juries so that all residents can be jury members.  So many times the obviously guitly have been acquitted by all Caymanian juries.

        • Anonymous says:

And in many cases it isn't a jury trial.  The judge turns them loose.  Our judicial system doesn't work very well.

I have reported twice a situation to the police. In one case the shrugged their shoulders and didn't  bother to get out of the car while the offence was happening right in front of us. The second case was reported at crime stoppers, and they lost the information.

        Why even bother. . . . .
