Malaysian national admits credit card con
(CNS): A 37-year-old man from Malaysia who was arrested in a credit card con when he attempted to use what is understood to have been a cloned credit card has admitted his part in the fraud. Tan Teck Kuan pleaded guilty on Friday when he appeared in Grand Court on a charge of obtaining a money transfer by deception relating to a credit card transaction of more than $4,000 and attempting to obtain a money transfer by deception of more than $70,000. Kuan, who attempted to use the clone cards in a downtown jewellery store last October, was a visitor to Cayman at the time. He was remanded in custody until his sentencing hearing, which is now scheduled to take place in April.
Kuan is one of three men from Malaysia who have been charged with credit card crime but it is not clear if prosecutors believe the men were acting as a gang.
Hew Senn Wann, 49, has also pleaded guilty to obtaining US$74,161.72 and attempting to obtain US$36,002.50 in a similar manner and has also been remanded in custody until his sentencing, which is also set for next month.
Thanabalan Manogar has also pleaded to similar charges. Both men are expected to be sentenced next week.

There are no side of earth that we are not having visitors coming from. I cant understand how Immigration are allowing some of them here. Some months ago there was a Mexican on the Island who was going from place to place asking people to rent him a room. He was telling them that he would give them the first month rent within a week. Before the week was up he was asking them to loan him enough money to buy lunch. As the kind and naive people that Caymanians can be he was given money and food. After the week was up he was telling all sorts of stories that he could not cash his cheque and all sort of stories. Apparently he went to the wrong person and we understand that he is no longer on Island.

It would be illegal for the police to have general access to fingerprint information held for immigration purposes.
