Misick hires leading UK lawyer in corruption case
(CNS): Jamaican born UK attorney Courtenay Griffiths, QC, who has represented, among other controversial clients, the former Liberian warlord Charles Taylor, has been hired by the former premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands to defend him against the charges he faces in connection with the controversial UK corruption investigation. Michael Misick, who was extradited back to his home country in January after he was arrested in Brazil and held in jail there more than a year, was due to stand trial in July. However, one of Griffiths’ first moves was to making an application to postpone the trial as he said the special investigators and other defendants have had years to prepare their case.
In order to properly represent Misick, he told TCI media, it is only fair he gets more time to put the case together and that there is a proper democratic resolution to the whole investigation.
Griffiths and Misick know each other as they met in London when the former premier was at law school. Griffiths has stated in the past that he "relishes defending clients"regarded by others as indefensible.

Where are the funds for this coming from? Whereever it is those accounts should be frozen by now. Presumably if his lawyer thinks he has a great case he will work on a "no-win no-fee" basis.
The man is on USD10 million bail, yes his assets are frozen but do you really believe that he does not have access to money. In case you don't know there are about 7-10 of his family members that are prominent lawyers in TCI and not to mention those in the Bahamas and USA. He is from one of the most prominent family in Provo so go figure.
Do you have any idea who Courtenay Griffiths is? he is known in the UK for many high profie cases that he took on and won long before the Taylor case. He did not win the Charles Taylor case and thank heavens that he did not, but Taylor got a lot less time than he deserved thank to his lawyer. Don't try to equate Mr. Griffiths with a "no win no fee tag" he is above that. In case you don't know he successfully defended the Gosswell v Commissioner case which resulted in the highest award ever given by a jury against a police force in the UK. I am not one to say that Misick is guilty or innocent but don't believe that it will be a cake walk or open and shut slam dunk case for the UK SPIT team. His trial will be interesting times for TCI and even here in Cayman and beyond.
This is going to be one tough fight for the UK, the people of TCI seems to be standing behind Misick he was given a rock star welcome when he landed in Grand Turks. The UK must be bewildered at this but as the saying goes "Little friends may prove great friends".

This is the Lawyer who represented Mr. Charles Taylor of Liberia! From what i've heard he is a great lawyer, but there are times and circumstances when no one can help you. Charles Taylor was found guilty on all counts. [eleven in all] But who knows? Mr. Misick might get lucky!

Talk is that Courtney Griffiths is working for a reduced rate because he wants the truth to come out how ever long it will take, it has taken away the motive of money so what we will see is stellar defense work by a high powered and very skilled attorney.
This is going to be quite an interesting case, particularly if the case will be decided by a jury of his peers. This is going to be the trial of the century for the UK government and TCI, as the matter with the former TCI Premier has been in the world wide press for such a long time in any event I trust that justice will prevail whatever the outcome for the defendant, people and island of TCI. It is my hope that shortly they will be able to put the matter behind them very soon.

99.9% of the British population have never heard of Misick or TCI. This story has barely made the news in the UK and is far from headline news.
TCI and to a similar extent the Cayman Islands are of absolutely no concern to the British public! Sorry to disappoint you.
I believe that TCI is of more concern to the UK Government than the reverse, Turk Islanders are not very fond of the UK and have always fought to have the same style of Government as Bermuda. TCI are more American and if memory serves me right they were looking at other alternatives than being British over 20 year ago (a search on line should clear this up). Sorry to disappoint you also but TCI care far less about the UK than the UK about them the very case in point look at the reception Turks Islanders gave Misick upon his return, one would swear the man was a rock star. Instead of you bloging this crap here why don't you to to Provo, Grand Truks, Middle Caicos and Salt Key, tell Turks Islanders and Belongers that and see what they will tell you, further more why don't you go and post it online on the TCISun page.
I cannot see why the UK government does not put the TCI on an internet auction site and just sell it to the highest bidder.
Putting TCI on an internet auction would be great for them seeing that they have been racking up awards for being on the top 10 list in Travel and Leisure magazine and several other travel magazines. I say kudos to TCI just goes to show you can't keep a good man down.

Misick, too found God and was preaching to a standing room only at his church when he arrived back in Provo from Grand Turks. The other way around I believe he can give Joey advice. I believe he is an attorney also a few of his brothers so I can only imagine what will be happening at the trial. God, Misick, the Bible, Joey and an array of Lawyers, quite the show.
You need to find God whoever or whatever you are. Whether you like it or not believe it or not, there is a Supreme being, Creator and Architect of the Universe. I hope before your eyes close forever that you will be able to ask for his forgiveness. My prayers ate with you.
Err, isn't the reason Misick ain't ready that he fled from justice and fought when he was caught?
