This department is a joke.  When you call asking for a listing of ppl for certain jobs it takes months even get the list.  These ppl need to be without jobs then they will know how it feels.

Give it a rest,  no one wants the jobs that have listed anyway…

People don't need the NWDA to get on the road to help job seekers, just go down to the immigration department and do your job! Caymanians don't want your fish, we want to be able to catch our own fish.  The best thing that the NWDA can do right now is to be advisors to the immigration/work permit board.  You should know how many Caymanians are registered with you sit on the board for all permits and review each application and advise immigration until that happens keep off the road and seek better ways to help Caymanian job seekers.

There is ZERO relationship between work permits and unemployment.

The best way to "help" th unemployed is to stop giving them things.

Anyodyrepeat anybody, who is Cymanian and want to work (not wants a job) can find employment.

I know a qualified local HR Manager who has been turned AWAY from NWDA internal hiring as they "ramp up" this department.  How does THAT work Tara Rivers?  (Walk the walk?)  Hope you don't try to put an expat in this role at NWDA?

Forget about Immigration and the Business Staffing Board looking at qualified locals.  The NWDA is too busy rubber-stamping a dozen "work permit waivers" a week so permits can be approved.  Care to answer this Ms. Chief Officer?

Absolute waste of time department. As an employer I have been waiting since March to be able to register jobs online with this department and have sent numerous emails asking them why the online system is not working etc etc and to date not even an acknowledgement of receipt.

I find it hard to believe they are leaving the confines of the office. I was in there one day when a local family arrived to post a domestic helper position. The clerk barely got up from his chair, grunted "do it online", and that was it…

    Shoclingly poor customer service.

The rudest department in government. Bar none.

      • Sea legs says:

It is complete cronyism at the NWDA, but still Tara stays away?  I'd like to see her actually sit there for 1 week and take responsibility. Why NOT Tara? Roll up your sleeves and fix your department.  These comments are ALL TRUE.  Do not listen to your career cronies, this department is a mess.

I think they should go on the road educating employers and recruitment agencies on cayman law.   Anyone know what the penalties are for intentionally circumventing (or advising to facilitate circumvention) of immigration law?

    • Anonymous says:

Apparently not many of the law firms who continue to operate in flagrant breach with no concern at all.

    • Anonymous says:

I don't think there are any penalties for circumvention.  There are penalties for breach.  And with proper advice it is thankfully straightforward to achieve the former without the latter.

According to Alden in 2003, it is $20,000 fine
