Waterfront cop still on beat claims police boss

| 14/11/2014

(CNS): Although the RCIPS has issued a statement claiming that Senior Police Constable Miguel McFarlane has not been demoted or transferred from the Harbour Front, the wider public appears not to be convinced. Social media, the radio talk shows’ phone lines and the independent MLAs have all been questioning what has happened to the popular, award winning Caymanian police officer who is well-known face in George Town.   Ag. Superintendent of theRCIPS Uniform Branch Angelique Howell said McFarlane has not been demoted and has been given additional supervisory responsibilities in coordinating the patrols of other beat officers in the capital.

However, it appears that he is not on the beat as stated and calls by the general public to the George Town cop boss are going unanswered and some members of the public are demanding action.

Despite the public disquiet over McFarlane, who it has to be noted has the uncommon accolade of being widely supported by the local population for the work he does, the police say he has not been demoted, movedor side-lined in anyway.

In the RCIPS statement Howell commended McFarlane for his commitment and dedication to duty.

“He still covers the water front and like his colleagues, can be seen between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm. These hours are shift based commencing as mentioned from 8:00am to 4:00pm & 1:00pm to 10:00pm. The area of coverage includes parts of the Seven Mile Beach area or Southern West Bay Road,” the police boss stated.

It is the evil ways of the oppressor to promote someone as part of the plan to keep them subjugated.

  2. Cayman first says:

The jordanian was talking about it in radio …he is good for caymanians more than those elected

    and till us lies

10:17 Yes Professor thanks for the correction. Couldnt you so learned make a contribution to my comments rather than looking at a stupid spelling error. As a BRACKER you bloody well know that I went to school and am proud to say that that we have produced some of the best students in the Cayman Islands. Perhaps you are offended by my statements giving my fellow BRACKER Miguel McFarlane his fair due.I will close by saying that Miguel is one of the smartest Cop on the Block. TEK DAT.

    • Anonymous says:

Tell that one how it goes Bracker…. this is not a spelling B contest,

    • Anonymous says:

The deeper lesson you should have learned is that stupid spelling mistakes detract from the points you are trying to make. At least you now know how to spell "Bracker"!

  4. Anonymous says:

So the problem is he got promoted. Poor RCIPS can't win.

    • Anonymous says:

Its a pity we cant clone him to make the rest of the police force. We might get someone convicted for comiting a crime.

    • Anonymous says:

So the problem is why he got promoted is because he was doing too much a good job in keeping the crime down in the daytime. Let's put him in the office so we can have crime day and night . Sounds like why this promotion was done .  Why the leaders of Goverment cant see into all these kind of deals !

  5. peter milburn says:

Miguel has always been one that anyone can stop and talk to and get directions if you are a visitor.Even if you just happen to drive by and toot your horn he always gives you a wave and a big smile. There are far too many new and old police officers that cannot even take a joke if you happen to say something too them.Too much of the wrong element built in to the majority of them and thats why many people are not more helpful when it comes to helping with tips to possible crimes. The powers that be need to wake up and get those others to lighten up and act like they have the power to smile     Geeez

  6. Miguel says:

Miguel needs to be on the cover of our phone book and airline magazines.  I work in Heroes Square and can say this man's hard work in the hot sun should make us all proud.  We need 300 more of him and less mis-managed police brass.

There IS a Queens medal for Police and I suggest that those of you who support him write in for the Queens birthday honours and put this fine gentlemen up for a Queens Honour.  If you can write here and call into the radio, don't forget about Miguel when the nominations come up (Feb/ March 2015 I think….)

  7. Anon says:

Does PC McFarlane want to be back on the waterfront? Most comments on the radio starts with "I haven't spoken to him but……"  Seems like no one has bothered to find out if he is happy with his change of post.

The radio talk shows do more to undermine the joy and spirit of the Cayman Islands than all the criminals combined. The net of this non-story is that the RCIP promoted this man for doing a good job …and then cought hell for doing just that.

WE WANT SENIOR POLICE CONSTABLE MIGUEL MCFARLANE!  WE WANT SENIOR POLICE CONSTABLE MIGUEL MCFARLANE!,

Unless, he does want to move around and try something different.  In that case…

WE WANT SENIOR POLICE CONSTABLE MIGUEL MCFARLANE – WHEN HE IS ABLE AND STILL WILLING:)

  9. Expat Boss's response says:

"Pssst … He is a Caymanian. Why did we hire him?  He has too much mouth and believe in his rights. I have a friend from my country that need a job and we can pay him a low wage. Hmmm… let's find some complaint against him like "lazy" so we can remove him and hire someone else,"

    Typical Expat Boss

    • Diogenes says:

Except he hasnt been fired but promoted – but dont let facts interfere with your assumptions and prejudices.  Have you thought of running for the LA?  You would be perfectly qualified.

  10. Cayman Sprocket says:

Just another day and another Caymanian shove to one side under Baines and his UK regime. how truly sad for the little place.

Typical RCIP, I it aint brke, break it!

  12. Wake Up! says:

Who Cares!  There are real problems facing this island and you are distracted by where a cop "Isn't" working. No matter where they are, they "Are Not" working. Wake Up!

  13. Anonymous says:

The problem with some one doing a good job in the RCIPS is they all think that its making the rest of them look bad.  So they have to do something to stop it.  Poor Miguel.  Hope they aren't too hard on him.

Mr McFarlane has always been one of the only Cop that I know and can easily recognize at a distance. As a Cayman Bracer I was always proud of the professional manner in which he conducts himself. There was no wander that he achieved the Police award. Coming off the cruise ships and asking him for directions and information I know that they got correct information. Not like when they are told, " CAYMAN IS GOING DOWN MON" or "cAYMANIANS DONT LIKE WE AND THEY ARE LAZY PEOPLE"  to name a few statements that are usually  made.

There should always be a Caymanian Police on the water front on cruise ship days. It is so sad when someone from another Country can do this to one of our real Caymanians. We are calling on you Moses K. Taking this Cop off the Dock is like taking one of Caymans best Receptionist from Lime, Miss Lana. Caymanians like these two should be promoted with salary while doing the same job. I know that Ms Howell would love to have the support like Mr McFarlane. Wake up

    Alden and Eric.

    • Anonymous says:

So tou know for sure that people from cruise ships were given wrong information and officers engaged in racist comments.  I suggest you report such incidences directly to the police with proof or is it just a matter of heresay, racism and gossip on your part.

    • jonas dwyer says:

Yesterday a passer by was heard as he passed by the Officer on the waterfront offering congrats to Officer Mcfarlane. His response was " I'm not back just holding on for somebody".

So pray tell who is wagging the tale.

    • Anonymous says:

I cringe when I see people write "Cayman Bracer". It sounds like you are anticipating a strong hurricane. It is "Cayman Bracker", and please don't tell me that "Brac" has no "k" in it; learn your spelling rules. If a word ending in c has "i" or "c" before it then in order to add an "er" or "ing" ending one must add "k" after the "c". For example, if you traffic drugs you are a drug trafficker

I heard he step on someone's toes who is no ordinary person but a friend of one the ranks. Is this true?

  15. Peanuts says:

My worry is that this attention will destroy a great Caymanian Ambasador. The diligent manner in which this officer has handled his asignhment has endered him to the people who work in George Town. So now some genius has decided to re-deploy PC McFarlane to some BS asignment. Now the ego of the department is at stake and we the people will in time will loose the  one member in the RCIPS that is respected, trusted. and admired. Mark my words the end game will be to destroy Miguel, to prove that the RCIPS is doing the right thing. Anotheg sad saga in Cayman Histroy.

  16. Anonymous says:

I saw him on the beat 2 days ago so he's definitely still out there.

  17. Papa Doyle says:

Another one Bites the dust another bites the dust another Kaymanian officer  gone!  Not a soul to back you up or stand in your corner. Too many of our own spineless Caymanians complicit is this nasty displacement program.

    • Anonymous says:

21:08, you clearly do not frequent GT, beacuse there ae Caymanian RCIPS officers doing the same thing that this guy did.

Now he is in charge of training others to do the same, how is that a bad thing you dimwit?

Typical noise maker, with absolutely xxxx all to back it up.

  18. Caymanian Crime Spree says:

Now wories guys we will soon get some Bobbies on the beat ! live and direct from Da UK this is nothing new i can think of other excellent Caymanian officers who were virtually turn out in the same manner back then the Word "Career Development" was use by their Henchmen Dont hate the Player people, hate the sick little game that now has put the RCIPS to the highest levels of Ineptness and incompetence we have seen in years. Good luck "Miguelito" but you have become and obstacle by proving that Caymanian officers can achieve a certain level competence. Which now clashes and is in direct contrast with certain foreign agenda's now in place. You too will fade into the back drop of the well organised disillusionment program many before you have either quit or retired out to avoid. When a certain wise sergeant spoke of these terrible situations and injustices many ignore the signs and good advice, today however many have both saw and experienced his omnious truth about what would happen to both the RCIPS and Cayman.  We down wid it  now Police Sgt  2 Seven.

Another blunder on the RCIPS!!! Senior Police Constable McFarlane was an asset downtown.  Always see him walking around, ensuring everyone's safety…..unfortunately I cannot say the same for any of the RCIPS.  Can anyone say they see police walking around, talking to people, etc other then Mr. McFarlane..nope…they need someone like him down town, with all the crime that is taking place at least you can feel alittle safe…but I did see him today in town, so maybe the RCIPS did listen the what the public wants!!!!

    • Anonymous says:

20:33, he is now in charge of all officers on the beat in GT, that means he is training them all too.

Now there will be more just like him!!!!

Do you understand or comprehend anything past what you read?

      • Anonyanmous says:

Now there will be more just like him!!!!! excellent I just wish we were able to clone him to service 90% of  the RCIPS.

20:20, perhaps he is training others to fill his shoes, because he is now in charge of that very thing in GT?
