| 31/12/2014

(CNS): Dr Virginia Hobday (Clough) has been given an MBE in the Queen’s 2015 New Year’s Honours List. Dr Hobday was recognized for her services to hospice care in the Cayman Islands in the annual list of royal gongs. She is presently the medical director for Cayman Hospice Care and has served on the organisation’s board of directors since 2001. She was the only Caymanian to receive a mention on the honours list this year. More than a thousand people were recognised by the Queen mostly from the UK including celebrities, politicians and other famous faces. See full list here.

Congratulations to a lady who has tirelessly served ALL the people of Cayman in their hours of greatest need. Thank God this lady has never judged anyone's politics, religion or social status while tending to her patients and their families… I think the same courtesies should be extended to her.

    !

    Well deserved!  Congratulations.

    Yeaah!
So proud to fly the same flag as Ginny!
Too bad, so sad for those who hate on us Driftwood-ers.

  4. Juliet Austin says:

Ginny lives love and compassion. You can see it in her eyes. I am so, so over the moon to see this remarkable woman recognized for being the Earth Angel that she is. She stands like a beacon to us all.

  5. Ruby Garcia says:

Congrats Ginny!!! I am so proud of you!! You are, as someone else said before me, our little Angel on Earth!!

Congratulations Dr Ginn , for all your hard work and dedication to the Islands to be recognized in such a great way . You are a true inspiration, I hope that everyone has been watching how she made such accomplishments. Politians and Ministers were you watching ?

It would be good if politics were not brought into this humanitarian subject matter, thus no mention of the "driftwood" subject, but there are those who love to stir s**t. Sadly I have to break my own suggestion to make a point. However, just the same as some (born) Caymanians display xenophobia, so do a lot of persons who became Caymanians by law and an awful lot of non-Caymanians. That is a sad reality that our society has lived with that far too long now, although, thankfully many of us local born and otherwise remember a pleasant time when it did not exist.

Can't we all see that xenophobia is a horrible attitude regardless of who displays it??!!  Is it possible to start the new year with an attitude of healing and acceptance all around?? The Leader of the Opposition has proposed this yet there are persons ready to reject it already and let the "driftwood" mantra cause further rifts.

You are among those who promote hate, while you demand acceptance. Hypocritical and disgusting!

There has never been a more deserving person than Dr Hobday whose tireless efforts should have been reward long before this. Congrats Dr Hobday!!! As for those who just had to try and soil the moment with their personal Bull$#@% and turn this very positive award into a nasty dig against Cayman are the very people who substantiate the miinisters awful comments. I feel truly sorry for you.

Let us not stop being kind and doing good for these islands. We must never forget that it is the Driftwoods that make up the fabric of these islands from the Legal Department to the Janitors.  A job well done by another Driftwood and we salute you Dr. Hobday.  Fr. a number of proud Driftwoods

    • Coco Puffs says:

The reason why people like you have latched onto this driftwood saga because it gives you and others now the opportunity and a excuse to convey exactly what you feel and think of this place and its people. Unfortunately now we have too many just like you who have floated up on our shores. Dr Hobday fortunately for us aint one of them.

  9. Anon says:

    Well done.

I hope your are as equally disgusted when such stupid labels and remarks are made against Caymanians. You know, the comments that are made in groups of like-minded individuals, who may be from the same place.

As a foreigner who has been living here for well over 6 years, I have witnessed MANY expats make all kind of remarks about Caymanians. I have heard it all. But yet, I have found most of Caymanians to be the opposite.

I don't judge people based on gender, religious or sexual orientation, race, national origin, wealth or social standing. The only criteria is whether any particular person is an arsehole or not.

13:15.Why ruin a very good story with your political statement.

    • Anonymous says:

Why do you people pick and choose who you atttack? do not know the lady but asume she is deserving of her award!!! there are many people here who only come for personal gain, when their working life is over they move on and Cayman become a distant memory.

Yes we have our share of dropouts but so do everyone else, deny that.

Now if you have truly made our Islands  your home, it must be better than whare you came from, enjoy our tranquility, peace and freedom you will enjoy no whare else.

HAVE a nice day, and give us the minority in our Islands some respect. What would you say if you went home and foundout  you were less than 49% of the population??????? Yaaaaaaaaa tell me, be trouthful.

    • whose cause says:

“Let it go – Let it gooo”
The only thing real driftwood is good for is making bonfires….
Put a lid on it – your angry rants are making us real invested expats look like rabid trolls!

This woman should be spoiled in love from the community

because thats how it should be for those that are good

  12. Dr. Rommel El-Madany says:

Congratulation Ginny, well diserved, your contiuous dedication for the most in need is inspiring.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

16:43 YOU JUST HAD TO SPOIL GOOD COMMENTS

Dr. Hobday congrats on a well deserved honor

    • Anonymous says:

Oops, me thinks the truth hurts. Ginny, you are a credit and a fine example of a Caymanian who puts the sad rantings of a few racist pigs aside and gets on with treating those who need your care. Those who persist with their bigoted rants should remember exactly who does most of the caring, indeed most of the damn work on these islands.

If Ginny is an example of "Driftwood" then I'll wear that tag with pride. Better driftwood than an ingrate parasite.

  14. Peter Milburn says:

Well deserved Ginny. A great example for all of us pieces of driftwood.

Lets not heed bush when he asks for the "driftwoodism" to be dropped.  In fact lets step it up a notch and buy teashirts with the term on it, start a new party called driftwood after all our children will have been born here and can one day run for office but meantime they can vote the shower of racists out of office.  This piece of driftwood will not forget the term in a hurry, or who said it, or which premier deal so badly with the fallout.

      DRIFTWOOD!

      • Anonymous says:

So, the comment of one individual has set you out to declare segregation politically from all other Caymanians? You expect that your children will take over and fight for th cause of "Driftwoods" only?!

Wow!! ts eitheryou ar very thin-skin, or your true position has now been given a weak excuse to show its ugly head.

And bring yourself down to their level 17.03?

Its a new year, wouldn't it be great if we could all strive to get on with each other? I mean, life isn't always perfect, but when you consider what we ALL have compared to others in this world, we're lucky.

        Happy New Year.

You realy need some help with grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization…

Please stop causing more dicisiveness. this is about what one man said not an entire nation. We are over a hundred cultures here. Let's all try to get along!

Have some respect. The award was for love. This is not the forum for hate. Bad taste.

      • Anonymous says:

You are definitely not J. Ahearn who is highly educated. You’re dying for attention and want to sell “teashirts”. Keep this room full of love and kindness like Jinny.

      • FloMos says:

Wow – these Angry Bird rants are getting so lame!
Why not take a long beach walk or something?
