UK takes control of Turks & Caicos

| 16/03/2009

(Times): UPDATED – Britain will seize full administrative control of the Turks and Caicos Islands next week after a corruption probe into the governance of the small Caribbean territory. Gordon Wetherell, the British Governor, broadcast a message across the islands announcing that a proposal had been drafted in London to transfer the authority of the local government ministers into his hands. He blamed “clear signs of political amorality and immaturity and general administrative incompetence” for the move which is likely to suspend the democratic administration of the territory until the next scheduled election in 2011. (Left: Premier, Michael Misick).

if there are any politicians going to take us down this road they certainly are not associated with PPM…..the UDP and most of their biggest supporters on the other hand…..I need say no more!

      Clifford Guilty!

PPM supported Clifford after a Commission of Enquiry found him "Guilty"; What does that say about the moral standing of the PPM (it doesnt matter what the world believes is wrong – it matters only what PPM believes is wrong).

PPM does not want the current investigation on corruption to continue and has tried everything it can to stop it – I wonder why?

it may be of interest to the cayman populas just how close the UDP and Michael Misick realy were.

It may also be of note just how far the present Government went to distance its self from Misick and his party.

Very fortunate that the present government chose not to become involved with the Misick and the current Turks and Caicos government. Very fortunate indeed.

On another note, for quite sometime now I have listened to various person bash the Minister for tourism following the verdict of the Commission of Enquiry here in the Cayman Islands. Yes he was found guild of wrong doing, however following the verdict it mus be noted that the person who requested the enquiry (HE the Governor) and who has the power to remove any member of the cabinet if he feels it in the best interest of the country, chose to do nothing.

Has anyone ever wondered why. Maybe as stated in the verdict while found to have done something which he should not have done he in fact did nothing illegal. hence the lack of any further action.

    Respectfully.

    C

    Cayman next if PPM wins!

If  incompetency is a factor in determining whether (or not) the UK will suspend constitutions of its Overseas Territories – then to avoid the the UK terminating the constitution of the Cayman Islands we better all pray the PPM doesn’t win at the next general elections in May 2009.

What an embarrassing shambles for all of us Caribbean people. Direct rule from the coloniser again because we are too "amoral" "corrupt" and "immature" to be independent.

As for Delroy Howell, I’m sure he can easily explain why someone originally of such very modest means made it into the seriously rich category. Over to you Delroy.

Cayman has its problems but it is not TCI-how can we keep it that way?

The writer that made comments about Mr. Howell is suffering from a serious case of hatoraders!

        Go Dellie!!!

They need to investigate the Cayman connection into this as well. AKA .. the West Bay Polo Club in Turks … the name is no coincidence.

      Charles Clifford: Cayman

If our own Commission of Enquiry found a Minister Guilty and nothing was done, I fail to see why a Commission of Enquiry in the Turks & Caicos will be relevant to Cayman.

No, No. Not fair. Clifford was found guilty of small or medium potatoes stuff by the Commission of Enquiry. He shouldn’t have dunnit . No question about that. He was horribly out of order. His stupid  silly Cabinet colleagues plus Duckworth couldn’t save him from the glare of the public-the worst craven aspect (Anton-how could you, shame on you?) of the whole sorry thing- as they threatened to try to shut it down then gave it up at the last moment.

But it’s not TCI. Chuckie -and other politicians here- are guilty of termonilogical inexactitudes but not the sort of stuff in TCI. Lets be fair.
