Turks and Caicos premier hits out at UK moves
(Financial Times): The beleaguered premier of the Turks and Caicos islands on Tuesday lashed out at the UK’s “draconian” plans to oust him and reimpose a colonial yoke on the Caribbean islands’ 32,000 “freedom loving” inhabitants. Britain is reportedly making preparations to seize control of the dependent territory after an official probe found signs of “political amorality” and a high probability of “systemic corruption”. The moves were denounced by Michael Misick, the first minister, who called on the international community to intervene against “the strong arm of modern day colonialism”.

PPM like to point fingers. They should remind the public of their Eastern Caribbean Consultant and the other Eastern Caribbean Premier who was brought up on charges – pertaining to female officers. This is who they are associated with. Let me remind the public of the PPM inaugural conference when the same man spoke on behalf of KT.
Please PPM – when throwing stones, make sure you are without sin.
Charles sure seem to be fighting for a life line. Oh boy, no whistle to blow this time Chubs. Maybe you should try blowing your own.
Poor sad little man.
I think the UDP supporters needs to remember First Cayman Bank and all the other stuff that has been done by McKeeva and the others. I don’t blame Mr. Clifford for coming out and telling the people of these Islands what was going on.
Hopefully all that is going on in Turks will come to light soon and I’m sure UDP wouldn’t like that.
Oh my……I believe there is some major doubt in the PPM court for them to be digging through the archives to bring up FCB. (laugh) Is there really nothing else that you all can say or blame the UDP for now that you have to go all the way back there!!!! That’s greta news!!!
Bring on Turks…..would love to see you all try and put a spin on that too. I guess maybe you’ll say we gave the whole island status!!!!! Ha ha ha
Maybe instead of wasting time on that gossip, you could actually educate yourself on the major and critical issues facing this country today! Like our non-existant tourism in the past 4 years, our lack of police service and increase of crimes, lack of proper education for our children and I mean the accountability from teachers and administrators, the overspending by Ministers, no financial reports on where the money has gone and what has been spent, lack of loss of jobs and the impending blacklist of the OECD!!!! I think that should keep you busy for a while!
In response to submitted by UDP, speak the truth cost it what it will because he who hides the wrong he did does the wrong thing still. Ask Big Mac what are his ties with Mr Messick?
"I think the UDP supporters needs to remember First Cayman Bank and all the other stuff that has been done by McKeeva and the others".
They would prefer to forget that he is the only Exco Member/Minister that I know of that had to be relieved of office by the Governor, and try to blow up Chuckie’s matter into some major scandal. What hypocrites! How would you receive a car from a bank, be entered on the register of interests of the LA as a director of a bank but not actually be a director of the bank as he claimed? "I didn’t go to the meetings" he said. So why did you receive any remuneration at all in that case? Was there some other undisclosed contribution he was making? Do banks just give gifts of cars for no apparent reason?
The Turks & Caicos take over by the UK is a prime example of how we are not your own master. In this scandle a high ranking member of the UDP is up to his neck. Have you heard UDP say anything about that? They are to arrogant. Stay tuned, UK could take over Cayman because of this very same scandle and UDP’s failure to distance itself from it. Don’t think for a minute that they are not inner connected. Batten down the hatches. The UDP is like rotten sprats in the moon light. They shine and stink.
While I can understand the comments regarding the performance of the RCIPS,to suggest that the UK should suspend the Cayman Islands constitution as they are preparing to do in the Turks and Cacaos islands must be a typing error. Hint: The UK directly controls the RCIPS via the Governor currently; need I say more? I’d rather that Caymanians take personal responsibility for improving the Cayman Islands living up to our responsibilities as members of this society. What say you?
Since you appear to have an unhealthy degree of trust in the UK, I suggest that you watch an online video called Stealing a Nation, a 56 minute Special Report by John Pilger and see what the UK actually did one of its own overseas territories. The case against the UK is going before the EU Human Rights Court as you read this post in 2009.
The T&C being "saved" from the political corruption by the UK is the perfect example of why Cayman should never be independant. The same kind of blatant corruption and abuse could happen here. The only protection we have against political corruption, as citizens, is the oversight of the UK. The T&C citizens and communities must be relieved to have been thrown a lifeline by the UK.
"You mean the kangaroo court that based its findings in significant part on unsworn testimony of a former governorwho was not subject to cross-examination and speculated about the motives (as distinct from the intent) of Clifford, that treated information as confidential which the former Minister was waving about and reading from on TV? That was a joke and ought to be treated with disdain. "
What are you saying; please speak in plain english. Are you saying that Charles/Chuckie/Chubby/Chummie should have been asked to step down by the Brits as well. If that is the case most certainly. I whole hearted agree with you. Charles was not whistle blowing for any one but himself. He saw an oppurtinity to improve his status and he took it. Any fool could see through that one. The PPM government should pay for that as well, because he was the stool pigeon for them. The little man to take the fall. They had no choice but to stand by him. After all it was all for them that he released the info. They wanted to win a campaign and they did what they always do RE-ACT and cry like babies. Chuckie just happen to be fool enough to let them use him. SAD LITTLE MAN THAT HE IS.
"What are you saying; please speak in plain english. Are you saying that Charles/Chuckie/Chubby/Chummie should have been asked to step down by the Brits as well".
What I am saying is plain enough, unless you are seriously mentally challenged. Step down for what?! This is petty nonsense.
‘The little man to take the fall. They had no choice but to stand by him".
These are contradictory statements.
If the UK can take over and make our crime rate go down then it is worth it! Anything is better now than what we have, Cayman is in a downward spiral of crime and it keeps getting worse and worse! Anything is better to try nowthan what we have, because now we have an island that has become frightening to live in and greivesome with murders! No politicians can stop this rapid downward spiral, because they all get too divided and too busy fighting against one another’s egos to even give a crap what is going on in this island just because one of their loved ones hasn’t been abducted, or raped, or murdered yet! Wait til it’s one of theirs! Then you’ll see them start to care! This is absolutely digusting and unnacceptable! This will bring about vigilantes now!! I guess that’s what the politicians and the police force want is vigilantes it seems!!!
Well, the good news is if Micky B gets back into power the Brits will take over for sure.
Of course these T & C crooks will play the colonialism card to fan the flames in an attempt to escape responsiblity for corruption. Regrettably those at senior levels will probably escape jail time but I guess getting forcably removed from power and publically humiliated on the world stage will have to do.
Hope Cayman Islands politicians learn from this exercise.
Hey, who is the woman in the photo? She’s hot. Can we give her status? I’ll co-sign.
I got your "amorality" and "corruption" right here, baby.
i hope the UK takes over Cayman because of Sabrina and so many others who have gone on before her at the hands of murderers with no proper investigations and justice. There are too many murders here and too many unsolved. The RCIP did a shameful job of not searching diligently for this young Caymanian girl, even her cel phone had a call that was detrimental to a proper search which obviously was not sought after. The RCIP had information from the start that she had headed out to East End. Don’t tell me they couldn’t have found her within 24 hours begin she was close enough to the WHITE missing car!!! WHITE cars can’t hide in the bush in Cayman too well, Cayman bush got torn down in Ivan, there are hardly any big trees!!! Logwood you can see right through!!!! They could have found that car within 24 hours, and her brothers and sister would have done the same once the car was found, they would have hunted tirelessly and found their sister soon after, just like they did a week later when the car was found!! No help from the RCIP to find her, it had to be her brothers and sister find her in the bush and the RCIP wasn’t even around searching!! What’s the use of these canine dogs, only for drugs, a human life of a young Caymanian girl is of no value??? if they really cared and really did a diligent proper search they may have even found her still breathing and may have saved her life!! Shame on You RCIP!!! And Shame on you for all the unsolved murders, i know of one of them, and you didn’t even search properly or you could have solved it, i know that as a fact!!!! I am sickened over our Police Force, absolutely sickened to my stomach!!! I wish Mr. Kernohan was here, i have a feeling he would have put out an incredibly diligent search for Sabrina and found her within 24 hours!! Our Police Force stinks!!!
"i hope the UK takes over Caymanbecause of Sabrina and so many others who have gone on before her at the hands of murderers with no proper investigations and justice".
I am sorry to say so, but that statement is positively idiotic in light of the conduct of the UK Special Investigation Team’s Operation Tempura brought here by the UK appointed Governor.
Do not rush to judgement about the police’s efforts. You may know something but not everything. People assumed they were doing nothing in Estella’s case as well.
I agree with you in regard to the job done by the police force being deplorable. i heard about the girl being missing friday, i was wondering if the car was driven into the ocean that the police couldnt find it. but it turns out they were doin a half ass job as police officers in their efforts to locate Sabrina or the car. Half of the police is foreign nationals and the other half is caymanian, and i know a good portion of both of those halves are just police officers because they want say they are police officers. if you’ve been in this country for the past 10 years then you as a resident have notice the inefficiency and lackadasical job the police do in solve crimes ( especially murders) responding to complaints, e.g. the failure of any officers to arrive at the blockbuster on the 5 march when the manager called to report someone threatening one of her employees. i mean what the hell do we have police for if they arent doing the job they are supposed to do.
I know for sure that alot of the police arent very professional at what they do, and im just talkin about the caymanian ones, And know for sure theres is alot of corrupt cops in the force, no offence to jamaicans or anything, but some of the corrupt and unprofessional are jamaican.
Personally i feel the police do not know what to do when it comes to these kind of cases, mainly because they havent experienced them as a police force on this island. i wonder if i could put my name in for police commissioner, then maybe i could get them to do what a real police force does solve and prevent crimes. I feel saddened for sabrina’s family and for sabrina and for anyone else who believesthe police is there to protect us, jus by thinking that if the police and came to blockbuster on the 5 when she was threaten that this might have been prevented.
Something must be done.
Charles Clifford: Guilty
This story reminded me of the PPM Minister that was found guilty by the Commission of Enquiry, and his Party supported him 100%.
You mean the kangaroo court that based its findings in significant part on unsworn testimony of a former governor who was not subject to cross-examination and speculated about the motives (as distinct from the intent) of Clifford, that treated information as confidential which the former Minister was waving about and reading from on TV? That was a joke and ought to be treated with disdain.
Kangaroo court for Clifford? Anyome who could write this nonsense is either a member of his family, the PPM, mentally challenged or all three. He did wrong, was found guilty and was allowed to go with only his character diminished-punishment enough probably. We’ll see if Anthony can drag him back in with him in May but many of us doubt it. He’s soiled goods.
"Kangaroo court for Clifford? Anyome who could write this nonsense is either a member of his family, the PPM, mentally challenged or all three".
None of the three. You are deliberately blowing petty nonsense into a major scandal for political reasons. If you held the UDP to this standard few would be left standing.
And who were his playmates from Cayman?
