Turks and Caicos democracy “under threat”

| 27/03/2009

(Jamaica Observer): The Caribbean Community (Caricom) is concerned that democracy is under threat in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), which is an associate member of the 15-nation regional grouping. In a statement Tuesday, Caricom broke its silence on the recent political developments in the British-administered territory, where the United Kingdom government is preparing to resort to direct rule. The drastic move comes in the wake of a scathing interim report released by a commission of inquiry, led by Sir Robin Auld, which has pointed to "clear signs of political amorality and immaturity and general administrative incompetence" in the territory.

CARICOM, what a bunch of Hypocrites !! The people of Turks & Caicos have always enjoyed the option of Independence (as do we), and have CHOSEN to remain under British Administration, which in this case is a damn good thing for them.

Instead of CARICOM entertaining Misik, they should instead be backing the PEOPLE of T&C, and taking a stand against the type of Blatant Corruption that Misik displayed, and that has brought about this situation for T&C.

Thank God that the UK still has enough of an interest in its Colonies, so as to stand-up for the people of them.

CARICOM on the other hand, should not be so quick as to align themselves with such curruption.

Read the transcripts (http://www.tci-inquiry.org/hearing_transcripts01.html) and tell us if there is any possible alternative.

The former leader of the Turks and Caicos who has since resigned was his own worse enemy. To blame the UK for his behavior is playing the old blame game.

What benefit does the UK get from Turks and Caicos?

If 50% of the corruption in the T & C is true then the UK did the right thing.
