Cops investigate teenage rape
(CNS): Police said today (Sunday 5 July) that they have begun an investigation into a reported rape which took place during the early morning hours of Saturday, 4 July at a house in the Red Bay area. The mother of the 16 year old victim contacted the police at about 5:50 am shortly after her daughter came home and related the attack to her in which a weapon was believed to have been used.
Although police have offered few details on the reported attack, CNS understands that the victim may have been forced to the location where the rape took place.
Police did say that officers have been working with the victim and her family and counseling has been offered. “This young lady has gone through a terrible experience and we are following up all leads to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Winsome Prendergast.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Prendergast on 516-5241.
Anyone with information about any crime taking place in the Cayman Islands should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000 should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

You all just dont get the point, dont you?? Reason i said "Way to go "UDP" is because all they chanted and raved on was "CUTTING DOWN CRIME". But yet all of this crap is still happening, and you no something, we na see nuttin yet. Just hold on and wait. What ppl fail to realise is crime is something that NO MAN can stop. As I said before, it has just begun, I’m a young born and rasied Caymanian, struggling to make ends meet, I went to Social Services to seek some sort of fiancial help. and was told that I would be put on some "Waiting List". Few weeks after, I learnt of someone whos not from here,but got thru right away, so what do you think will happen to Caymanians who are put in the back?? Burglaries, theft, murders, etc…..and once again. Thanks "UDP"

For all you getting up tight about the comments stating that the UDP’s inability its reduce crime these comments are due to teh fact that teh UDP campainged that the increase in crime in previous years was teh direct result of PPM, therefore it lead one to beleive that if they were in office the crime would not be at the level it was during the PPM administration. UDP is now in government and there is no reduction in crime therefore contrary to what the UDP was preaching during ther campaign NO government Party have any control over any crime committed…unless they commit it themselves.
UDP basically preached alot of bull during theor campaign and now if their followers remembered what they were saying then they would realize that they were talking just to say something because even though theyhave only been in office a few weeks they have already acting in contrary to what they campaigned but I guess that dies not matter because as noted from the previous postings their supporters are missing the reason people posted comments regarding UDP not reducing crime….they obiviously forgot what UDP told them during the campaign….guess that is why teh UDP is so proud of its supporters…..they forget what they say so they can change theor story and the supporters will not noitce or even care for that matter….what a mess!!!

This girl was raped, I doubt that she had actually figured her rape into her plans for the evening, so her schedule was probably a bit off.

Regardless of the circumstances around this case, it is irresponsible to pose judgemental questions such as the above. Questions or statments such as this only go to divert energy in questioning and judging the victim of a horrible crime.
I don’t think this question is a judgement on the victim at all. I think it is a valid question to the parents of this MINOR. Why a 16 year old girl was coming home at that time of the morning is beyond me. I would hope that it is a situation where she was expected home earlier the previous night and that the parents alerted authorities when she didn’t come home on time. Right? Right? Come on parents, we need to do better by our children.
The amount of Caymanian young people (boys and girls) smoking ganjain and behind the restroom at the Public Beach during the Jet Around Cayman event (though not their responsibility) was a disgrace yesterday. Two police officers came, went in from different angles and walked out and left. The smell coming from there was alarming. So my question is, why did they leave without doing anything??? Not one child ran, and they all remained there smoking after the police left.
I am seriously concerned for the youth of this island. Parents, do you know where they are and what they’re doing when they’re not with you? Do you know their friends? Do you know what type of people their friends are? Do you know their goals, ambitions and passions in life? Do you know or care if they have any? God help us. Lord we lift up these children to you right now in the name of Jesus and pray that you restore, guide and lead them. Be the mother and father that they need. Raise up and bring positive, caring mentors into their lives. Amen.
Adults, we need to give back more to the community. Volunteer. Big Brother Big Sister, your church, children’s homes, your child’s school are good places to start. The youth need us. I’m not just a sayer, I’m a doer.
All the contributors to this thread who bring politics into the conversation are simply showing that they really don’t care about the topic at hand, namely the brutal rape of a young woman.
It is shameful given the nature of this crime and I personally believe that this crime usually goes unreported for just this very reason. A woman rightly believes that an uncaring public will ignore or make jokes in response to a devastating crime.
This young woman deserves our support and the person or persons responsible need to face justice.
Stop blaming the government and the political parties!!!! Which government or political leader would encourage someone to rape or murder? Is it the Cabinet Minister or MLA who patrol the streets? Do they investigate the crimes?
If you find it necessary to comment or speculate stop being so narrow minded. Try to put forward viable solutions that could possibly help us get crime under control. Appeal to the perpetrators to come forward or appeal to their families and friends to speak out and turn them in to the authorities. Why are some of you so quick to blame the recent prison releases for the spike in crime? Don’t you think they deserve to be investigated first to see if it could possibly be any of them? Hiding behind anonymous does not give you license to make outrageous statements.

In instances of rape the victim is often questioned and judged by others and it only aids in revictimizing them again…the focus should be on expressing disgust of the perpetrator’s behaviour and holding the perpetrator accountable.
I hope that this young girl and her family will get the support and compassion from the relevant agencies that they deserve and need after this ordeal, and that the perpetrator is quickly apprehended and justice is served.

Those engines are built for saltwater… but unfortunately when the fools submerged the stern of the boat in a ‘training exercise’ the engines were flooded with salt water and submerging any outboard motor in salt water will have the same effect. Perhaps they should have spent less money on boats and more money on training the so called captains!!

The UDP Government cannot really be blamed for this continued rise in crime, they have only been in office just about 6 weeks or so, not to mention the country’s debt that they have inherited and all the other challenges they face. They literally have inherited a broken down country which includes a broken down RCIPS as well.
Just to keep the country’s head above water and from drowning in debt over the next couple of years, is about all that we can hope to be accomplished.
Remember there are no more $ 2 million dollars to buy invisible/stealth helicopters nor is there millions of dollars to purchase police boats whose Mercury engines are ideally for "fresh water lakes" in the US, instead of salt water here in the Cayman Islands. Really, what does former Supt. Mike Needham really know about seamanship and boats anyhow ??? There is no more money to purchase police cars whereby the number of police cars outweigh thenumber of officers on shifts, literally at most police stations. (A first, in the history of the RCIPS)
When I worked at the RCIPS, we had two (2) police cars per shift, one was a "half of a police car" that lived at Funding Scheme, the other ran the shifts on a 24 hour basis and racked up miles like a Greyhound bus.
So therefore, please don’t blame the UDP Government for your very valid concerns. XXXXXX

My heart goes out to this young lady and her family and I hope an arrest is imminent and that she gets the appropriate counseling and support from family, friends and community so that she is able to enjoy some semblance of a normal life again.
I trust that people will understand the seriousness of the situation and temper their hurtful and useless comments on this site. Let’s use this site for a good purpose and help wherever we can to have this case solved as soon as possible.

Get a grip on yourself, the election is OVER. Did a member of UDP raped this child?. Talk about what you think , you can do to help the young people from falling prey to these kind of incidences. It was no party political person that did this.
However, have you really stopped and thing about the many strange things that are happening in Cayman, It is not UDP or PPM or INDEPENDENT members committing them. Thet are just normal frustrated citizens who cannot take the heat.
